VINTAGE GEISHA GIRL PAGODA DECORATED TEA POT & HANDLED COVERED BISCUIT JAR
This wonderful vintage collectable was recently rescued from an Estate Auction. DESCRIPTION- 498: Looking for a new forever home is this rescued 4 CUP JAPANESE TEA POT and COVERED DOUBLE HANDLED SUGAR BOWL or JAR. They feature a design of pretty GEISHA GIRLS in their kimono's and carrying umbrellas to keep their skin pristine. In the background is a HAND PAINTED pagoda. Landscape scene of hills, birds, water. Built in diffuser holes on inside of spout opening in pot keeps tea leaves and bags inside pot where they belong. Just lovely in shades of pink, brown, black, grey, gold, some green and burnt orange on a white background. No major damage at all, but normal vintage issues including tiny"pepper" spots in glaze, a few original areas where top shiny glaze has missed covering the bisque, little unfinished nibs, some tiny bumps ... moreand pin holes& pits in both pieces. The hand painting is detailed and facinating to think someone hand painted all that. Gold gilting accents on girls robes, tiny raised white moraige dots on pagoda roof. Some gold rub and loss to the gold gilting on handle and flower shaped handle on top of tea pot and sugar bowl lids. Still managed to stay pretty darn nice all these years, but there is no matching creamer to go with this pair. How fun, try to find a matching creamer on ebay and complete your pair! BACK STAMP: Both pieces are hand signed by the artist on the bottom. I researched this maker's mark and cannot locate anything like it. Sources tell me this is the artists signature and it is from the late 40's early 1950's. Imported from Japan. CONDITION and PHOTOS: Most items I rescue are extremely old or vintage and normally will show signs of use and wear. Which is part of their appeal. It measures approximately 7 ¼” tall with a 4 ½” diameter The crock does have old rim chips: One approximately ½” Two about ¼” each Tiny nicks to small to measure or see in a picture. The yellow area is in the glaze. The bottom has a few rough spots but no chips. The body has several glaze bubbles and manufacturer’s imperfections that are normal for stoneware of this age. This piece was made and decorated at the kilns and studios of Jean Pouyat in Limoges France during the late 19th century and is decorated in the Victorian taste of the time it was created. This piece is made of very high grade French Limoges porcelain and has been cast into a lovely mold design with branch like handles and knob finial all in gold gilt. The central decorative theme of the piece is roses on garlands that have been beautifully hand painted on cover and base. This is an amazing find and will look incredible in your favorite cabinet or at table. Item dimensions and dating: All measurements are approximate. MEISSEN LIDDED JAR, SQUARED, DECORATED BY CARL THIEME
Up for auction is an unusual Meissen piece of Dresden porcelain in the form of a lidded jar/biscuit jar. This rectangular shaped piece measures 8 3/4" from it's base to the tip of the purple opened-rose handle finial. At it's widest points. It is 4 7/8" Decorated by the famed Carl Thieme studio. It bears his earliest mark of a'T' with crossed lines beneath, on the bottom of the jar. This was the mark used from 1888 to 1901 until a dispute arose with the Meissen company, they claiming the mark too closed resembled their famous crossed-swords mark. Thieme kept their promise to no longer use that mark. The hand-painted decoration shows period male and female figures with a nautical scene in the background. These are surrounded by the trademark floral encrustations. A very lovely and unusual piece. There is POSSIBLE ... moredamage on the rose finial. VERY difficult for me to tell if it is or not. Vintage Biscuit Jar with Handles/Lid - Decorated with Roses
This is a vintage. Possibly antique(I was told it was antique when I purchased it, but I'm not sure they were correct) biscuit jar. It has handles, a lid with a ring on top to open easily. There is wear to the paint on the ring on the lid, a small amount of wear on the gold around the edge of the lid, and the handles, which appear to only have the gold trim on the front side. THE roses are realistic& beautiful. They are fired on decals. However, they appear hand-painted because there is texture to the roses. They may have been accentuated with paint over the decals to bring out detail& depth. There are markings on the bottom, but are blurred& I can't make them out. Approximately 8 1/2" from handle to handle, 5" across the jar opening, 5 1/4" across the bottom. No sign of any chips or cracks. Vintage Gilt Porcelain Candy Jar Hand Painted Decorated in Brazil Sao Paulo 1960
Welcome! Presenting a porcelain footed candy jar. Possibly a decorated Limoges or other French blank, with Fragonard style scenes and marks on the bottom, which consists of a coronet style crown over the number 541 over an orb with the script initials D.P. underneath which is a green stamp that is mostly obscured by the orb and crown mark, but I can make out the word"Made" and the letters"r_nce" D.P. is the mark of a porcelain decorating company in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the mark is circa 1960s. The company decorated porcelain blanks in an ornate, European fashion. This jar measures 3 3/4 inches high to the top of the rim of the body without the lid. 6 1/4 inches high to the top of the knob on the lid and about 6 3/4 inches in diameter at the widest point of the body. The jar has a combination of transfer decoration, hand ... morepainting and gilding and consists of four panels of Fragonard style pastoral romantic courting transfer scenes(no Fragonard signature) There are two different alternating scenes around the body, with additional hand painting, framed and separated by pink and gilt decoration, offsetting the pink and blue ground of the scenic panels. There is some wear to the gilding at the interior rim of the jar under the lid. A missing spot of yellow hand paint on one of the scenic panels, some mild wear to the transfers, mainly at a couple of the hats on the heads of the men, and a 3/8" streak to the pink paint toward the top of the jar, and a 1/2" streak or line in one of the transfers of one of the panels. There's a little dirt in the interior foot crevices that I couldn't reach. Otherwise very good condition, no chips or cracks, with lovely color and decoration. Purchased at auction in the Chicagoland area to help give you an idea of potential geographic location. There are no stampings anywhere that I saw. Looks like the one decoration may be an"E" but maybe you can identify a maker based on the style. Height is 9.5 inches and width at top is 5.5 inches. It is in very good used condition with no cracks, has a nice sound when you tap it. There are two chips on the bottom. The one looks similar to the types of chunks I have seen taken out of pottery that sticks to the kiln shelf during firing. Lovely Antique Victorian Porcelain Biscuit Jar Hand Decorated Enamel Flowers
This auction is for a Lovely Antique Victorian Porcelain Biscuit Jar hand decorated in a soft pastel pink and blue with enamel painted flowers in gold and white. I am not certain if it is correct to describe this as a Biscuit Jar as it is on the smaller side for a such a thing. Perhaps it was originally designed to store something else. Either way. It is a Striking piece of antique porcelain. The piece stands about 6 1/2 inches tall. Including the lid handle, and is about 5 inches at its widest point. By the form and the feel. I believe it dates to the mid to late 1800s and likely was made in England or France. It has an ineligible handmade line mark in gold on the inside of the lid and inside of the jar. The art work is well done throughout. When the lid is lined up properly. So too are the stems and vines of the flowers. The jar has a small ... moreindentation on the lip(last photo) I believe it was done in the manufacturing process. But I am not certain. There is a very faint spider web crazing line and a small indent on the bottom of the jar(photo 11) There is some age appropriate and minor loss of the decoration, mainly to the finial. Check out my! A RARE & FINE GERMAN FAMILLE NOIR CHINOISSERIE DECORATED PORCELAIN JAR
This potpourri jar is in the form of a small bulbous lidded Chinese ginger jar.This is a delicate piece of porcelain beautifully decorated with prunus blossoms. One of the most regarded floral motifs in Chinese art. The main enamel is famille noire- it is the backdrop for the white prunus flowers, the gilt leaves and brown intertwining branches and a fluttering lonesome dove. There is green shrubbery growing from the foot of the jar. The brim of the lid and the neck of the jar are both decorated with T frets. The pierced vents on the body of the jar are arranged like flowers as well. This was probably made from 1910 to the 30's. There is a faint scripted Aerozon mark and DRGM which some believe means that this design and product is protected by copyright but not patented. Seller advises buyer to further research. The lid can be closed ... moretightly into the opening of the jar because both have grooves. The jar is in excellent condition- no chips or cracks. The wood stand came with the jar.The foot has residue from the putty that kept the jar in place. There is some light staining both on the rim of the jar and lid. The jar is 6" high; the mouth is a little under 2" the foot is 2 3/4 across; the belly is 14" around.

19thC Thomas Webb Opaque Glass Decorated Cracker Jar w/ Sterling Mounts c1885
GORGEOUS 19TH CENTURY THOMAS WEBB DECORATED CRACKER JAR WITH VERY UNUSUAL STERLING SILVER MOUNTS AND LID This gorgeous cream colored opaque glass biscuit or cracker jar is by English maker Thomas Webb. It is decorated with raised gold flowering branches. Quite possibly by Jules Barbe. The jar has sterling silver mounts and lid, which is quite unusual. It stands 5-1/4" tall to the rim and is about 4-5/8" in diameter. The collar, handle and lid are marked Sheffield, Sterling, JR(John Round& Son 1878-1906) There is no damage to the jar.
