It features a hand carved image of a Japanese good luck Sea Bream fish called Tai that is in a stylized curled position. The gold writing on the fish translates to read"Congratulations" and the person's name at the bottom. The back has the original maker's seal that reads"Wakuiya Shoten. This tray was probably presented as a special gift since the image of the Tai fish is an auspicious good luck symbol. There are a few small nicks to the rim and a slight warp; otherwise. Antique Moriage Embossed Gold-Leafed Japanese Ginger Jar w-lid 1880-1920 Satsuma
You are looking at ONE Antique Japanese Embossed Gold-Leafed Footed Ginger Jar with Handles& Lid. This Beautiful Jar is more than 100 years old. It has been displayed by members of my family for three generations. It is from the 1800s and is in the Moriage style with raised lines& dots for decoration. It is most likely from the Satsuma Region. Potter's Mark can be seen inside lid and on top rim of jar. Marks are somewhat worn and tails of characters may be worn off. The Lid has Several Cracks which have been repaired and a chip on the inside rim. Which can be seen in the photos. While the repairs are tight, the glue, unfortunately has changed color making the cracks visible. Perhaps some professional treatment can repair the discoloring of the glue. The jar itself appears to be in good condition. There may be a repair on one of ... morethe handles but I cannot be sure. The embossing and find line gold leafing are exquisitely done. The floral enamel painting is beautiful. The inside of the jar is clean and unstained. The jar has three curved feet, also gold leafed. The jar has two ornate gold leafed handles and a Three-Way Gold-Leafed Handle on the Lid. Some of the gold-leafing on the handles and feet are a little worn but considering the age, this is insignificant. The jar can be displayed with the lid turned with the flowers forward so that the crack does not show if it is at eye level. Cracks in lid are only obvious if you are looking down on the lid. Jar is 8" tall to rim and 8" across handle tip to handle tip. It is 10" tall with the lid on. A nice display piece. The jar has been in my family for three generations. It is time for it to find a new collector. If you display this piece at eye level or above, you cannot see the repaired crack on the lid. It will make a beautiful addition to your display shelf. I am not an expert on this item but will attempt to describe it to the best of my ability as follows. Antique hand made Japanese Satsuma porcelain ginger jar or tea caddy. Approximate measurements are 5 3/4" high with lid by 5" at widest part. It has a 7/8" hairline on the inside of the lid(not visible on the outside) and also two hairlines on the body of the jar. The raised. Baked in enamel colors are in perfect condition and beautifully hand painted. Gold trims and outlining are in very good condition for their age with only minor wear. There is no maker's mark present. Please see photos for the best description. Antique Mid 1800's Japanese Hexagon Tea Caddy Lidded Box Jar Scenic Village 5.5"
This is a gorgeous lidded jar most likely made Japan. Although the cover looks like Satsuma. I have seen many mid 19th century Chinese pieces with similar designs. It appears to be a mid 1800's piece of porcelain. It has an unusual style similar to both Kutani and Satsuma. It has six sides. The porcelain is on the thin side, although it is neither eggshell nor a fine bone china. It does have some see through qualities when held to the light. This jar features a village scene with trees, birds, mountains, the sky and water. The same design carries right through the entire six sides. The scene is lovely and is done in raised enameling throughout. The lid is flat with a round central handle. The lid is covered in raised oriental enamel designs with the emphasis on gold gilt. It rests inside the top of the jar on a thick unglazed white porcelain ... moreedge. The very top outside rim is also covered in the same raised enamel and gold gilt designs as the cover. The six sides are even all the way around. They gradually get only slightly wider from the base to the top. This piece has a very attractive style and great colors. It was made by a very skilled artisan. I believe it was made for the export market long before 1880 when it then became law to mark the country of origin for porcelain wares. I found this jar at the estate sale of a life long antique dealer. I have taken several pictures for your better understanding. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. As to the condition; There are no chips. There are four tight spider hairlines on the sides of this jar. These are strictly age related and very possibly caused by the way it was made. There is slight wear to the gold gilt on the lid's handle. But very little anywhere else. Everything is clearly shown in the pictures. In spite of the hairlines, I would say this is a great looking mid 19th century oriental antique. I did not spend a lot of time cleaning it, so I am sure it would look much nicer with a little effort. It has the normal pitting in the

Up for bids is an original Asian vintage hexagonal ceramic jar. The jar features a street scene with two night watchman figures. The is about 4-3/8" tall by about 4-1/2" side to side. It weighs just under one pound. I have no clue as to when or where the jar was made. My best wild-ass guess would be Japanese origins. If it ever had a lid. It's gone now. Markings on the base include the number 10320, a Roman numeral II and a third number that I'm unsure of, possibly 27. If you have specific knowledge of its origins, you can use that to gain a bidding advantage. I see no cracks. Chips or other flaws. Please see the enlargeable photos to judge condition for yourself. It bears the red hand painted over the glaze ORCHID mark on the base. TOTALLY hand painted with a beautiful soft cobalt blue under glaze decoration of a grove of bamboo highlighted with a detailed& generous gilt over glaze and colourful enamel diaper borders. The pleasing robust form features a lightly ribbed body with handles shaped as dragons. Condition is excellent with no chipping or cracks or crazing or repairs of any kind. Gilding is in very good condition. Displays beautifully. Even though this was probably a lidded sugar bowl that was once part of a tea set. Because of the age and quality of the decoration, it would make a lovely cabinet ... morepiece. My husband& I have collected Japanese porcelain for many years and after visiting the Fukagawa/Koransha factory in Arita. I feel confident in dating this piece with a production period of around 1890- 1915 making it OVER 100 YEARS OLD.
