Overall excellent condition for it's age. No chips or cracks. There is some browning on the top of the rim and the underside of the lid. This is not visible until the lid is removed. My Grams collected and received her biscuit/ cracker jars from my Grandpa as gifts while he was serving in WWII and after he came home. This particular jar was old when he purchased it. It is from the late 1800's or very early 1900's. I will be listing several vintage items this weekend so keep checking back. The biscuit jars are all in good condition for their age. It is marked EPNS on the metal rim and also on the underside of the lid. Beautiful handpainted dark and light pink rose and green shamrocks adorn this piece all around. It measures approx. 5 1/2"T w/o lid x 6" W at the barrel part of the jar. I am not sure what the metal on the handle and lid are. It almost looks like brass. It is in excellent condition. There are no cracks. Chips, crazing or repairs. The inside is a shiny porcelain and the outside is done in a sand texture. The deep indigo blue flowers are heavily accented with gold, and there is a gold line edging the lower rim as well as small pin dots of gold filling in the lower edge of the combed upper edge of the barrell, The rim, handle and lid are silverplate and are in very good condition, as well. Antique English Porcelain Homestead Biscuit Barrel Excellent Condition
Antique English biscuit barrel made of porcelain. The barrel has homestead design on both ends. The body has hand painted pine leaf branches in gold. The lid has a ribboned bow decorated in gold. There are two gold knobs on the sides. On the base of the barrel there is a number of 1877 and the letter M. I am not sure if that was the year made. Apart from losing some of the gold decorations around the bow. The knobs and the lid where it was touched a lot the barrel is in excellent condition. There is no chip or crack. The stamp on the bottom of the Barrel has two lines crossed with an H. I looked in some of my reference books and I think this is the mark of Schoenau Bros. Huttensteinach. Thuringia, Germany(E. This is a porcelain-lined wooden biscuit barrel with silverplate handle. Lid, and trim. The handle is marked with"E.P.N.S. for electroplated nickel silver. The lid is also marked with"EPNS" as well as"RSPCo. and the remnant of a maker's mark believed to be that of Raeno Silver Plate Co Ltd of Birmingham, England. The age is unknown, but believed to be early 20th century. The underside of the knob on the lid is also marked"Patent No. 26047. The barrel is in good condition overall. The wooden staves are separated at the bottom of the barrel in two places and another stave is cracked at the bottom of the barrel. The porcelain lining is crazed completely. The silverplate is tarnished and shows some wear. This is a nice. Heavy piece- still usable and/or decorative.
