Antique,porcelain,GERMAN pomade jar crock pot lid..orig.advertising labels+cont
You are bidding on an antique. Porcelain, advertising-transferred, GE RM AN hair pomade container.with most of it's original labels + about 95% of it's original contents! Very few of these v.early 20 th century jars have been found with their original labels and contents.making this one extremely rare. Condition is superb. With the transfer print on top of the lid very sharp and clear.see pic.1& 2) I believe you will be able to read the English print on the labels(see pics.4& 5) and that will give you a clear idea of the uses and rather extreme claims made for the product! This was a product of Ge rm an manufacture. But made for the English market, and these lids and containers have been found all over the world, indicating that the product must have had a pretty broad, global appeal. The jar measures about 2 1/2" in diameter ... moreand stands about 2" high when the lid is in place on the base section. Great item for your collection. Especially with the original labels& contents.you will not easily find one in such a great state of preservation! FOR VIEWERS WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE DELIGHTFUL LITTLE JARS.THEY WERE USED BETWEEN APPROX. 1840-1920 TO MARKET VARIOUS PRODUCTS WHICH CAME IN A PASTE FORM. AFTER WWI THEY BECAME OBSOLETE AS MORE MODERN AND ECONOMICAL FORMS OF PACKAGING REPLACED THEM. THE RECOVERY AND COLLECTING OF THESE OLD PIECES HAS BECOME A POPULAR. Antique, ceramic, Shaving cream crock jar pot lid ...with horseshoe pictorial
You are bidding on antique. Ceramic, Shaving Cream jar or"pot lid' as they are commonly known. This one features a horseshoe pictorial, company trademark. To the upper center of the lid face. see pic.3) Inside the horseshoe are the initials S.P.Q.R. old Roman Empire symbols? So, I do not know what this trade mark actually represents and there is no listing of this pot lid(that I can find) in the available reference works. So. May be quite scarce? I cannot say for sure. Condition: Has the usual fine glaze crazing. A small area of rough spot on the face at 4 o' clock on the outer perimeter and a re-attached chip to the side flange wall(was recently"bumped"pic.5. All that said, it still displays real nice, and is matched with a good base section in v.good condition. pic.4) The lid measures 3 3/4" in diameter and stands ... more1 3/4' tall when the lid is seated on the base section.
