Pan-style fixtures(so named because the main body is like a large pan) were incredibly popular through the 1910s. 1930s, and early 1930s. Most were modest in terms of design, quality, and pricing. Very occasionally however I come across a set like this. Wow. This set was not modest in design or quality. And in its day would have been at the higher end price-wise. It’s stunning. The fixtures came out of a house in Illinois. And were caked with white paint when I acquired them. Luckily, paint doesn’t stick very well to silver-plating. The 4-arm chandelier is particularly luscious. The arms have gorgeous detailing in high relief. The bottom finial is surrounded by a lovely disk. The chain flourish is also exquisitely detailed. As is the ceiling canopy. You can see how different the fixtures look with shades(not included) or without. The vertical wire on the chandelier is cloth covered like the original. While originally intended for a living-dining room. Today I can envision the set in your newly renovated kitchen, or spa bathroom! The set would be the ideal complement to nickel-plated hardware. This is meant for the middle of a kitchen. ONE 6-1/2-inch wide 1-bulb fixture! This is meant for over a kitchen sink. ABOUT LIGHTOLIER Beginning in the 1920s. And for many decades thereafter, the Lightolier Company(extant today of course) made some of the very finest fixtures. Their designs were always simply dazzling, and the quality was the very very very best. When you restore vintage lights such as I do, these aspects are so obvious they tend to jump out. It’s always a particular pleasure restoring a Lightolier! The fixtures are typically Lightolier in being rather ingenious. The shades have little leg-like extensions on top. Creating a space between the shade proper and the chrome fitter above. The finial has pierced openings. The reason for all this? You can use 100W bulbs without the fixtures overheating. The heat from the bulbs will create an air current. This will draw cool air up through the openings in the finial. And out through the openings between the shade legs. Clever? I think so! The shades are also striking. The edges have very thin raised lines. And the bottoms have a highly textured, dimpled surface. Nice. The smaller fixture is especially adorable. Each glass shade has minor issues(see last images) The larger shade has two tiny chips. The small shade has three.

At 19 Curity Ave in Toronto. They also had a US presence at 6103 Longfellow Avenue in Cleveland. Ohio. You can Google search the latter. And“stand” in front of the massive brick factory. It is now long abandoned, and its countless widows broken. But it wasn’t that long ago that this factory– like countless such factories across America– was teeming with life. And supporting millions of families. This, back when America actually made stuff. The chandelier is not large. And is scaled for a smaller bedroom, foyer, or hall. The fixtures retains its original polychrome. The overall color is a sorta gold(with an orange hue) And with accents of jade and red. Lovely. The stem of the chandelier is quite spectacular. The ceiling canopy. Too. Hidden in the chandelier finial is on/off switch. Pretty cool but it no longer works(and cannot. Alas, just be replaced) The vertical wire. New, is cloth-covered like the original. Wholly restored and with new wiring. This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed! I have never previously offered chandeliers quite like them: The original candle covers are metal. And have a textured faux finish including drips. I also like how they taper. Very cool. The covers are“held” in place by aluminum. Um, arms. There are also aluminum flourishes at the top and bottom of the chandeliers. There are six arms. Nice, and each holds six amethyst glass drops. These appear to be original. There is an additional drop in the center(these seem to be replacements) The pipe stems are covered in cloth cord. I also love how the arms sweep down and up. The chandeliers are an impressive 21-inches wide. They are 33-1/2-inches long(to the bottom of the cloth tassel) And 26-3/4-inches minus the tassel. If you need the fixtures shorter, I can reduce the length of the pipe stem a few inches. If you need them longer please contact me. I lusted after this exquisite pair for a long time. It was a thrill to at last purchase them. They are so very beautiful; I love just simply staring at them. Wholly restored and with new wiring.
