PORCELAIN FLUSH CEILING FIXTURE. 1920'S- 30'S, ART DECO ERA, MODERN WIRING This art deco era ceiling light is a flush mount porceilain fixture. I believe that it is Porcelier. But the sticker that probably accompanied it at one time is missing. The porcelain is in excellent condition with no chips or repairs. The wiring is modern. I have tested the fixture and it works correctly. Judging by the small hole near the center mounting hole, it probably had a pull chain on/off witch when it was new, but the switch has been removed. It was common for the early fixtures to have pull chains because they generally did not have a wall switch to turn it on& off. The fixture is 10-5/8" long. 6-1/4" wide, and 3" deep. The nickel finish is in good condition but shows minor tarnishing. The patent date on the back side is March 3, 1925(photo 10) The wiring is modern, and they have very unique rotary switches in the form of an acorn. The switches work correctly. The paper candles are original and I was torn between replacing them or painting them, but decided to leave them as is and the new owner can decide whether to replace them or paint them to match their own décor. The sconces have been tested(photo 12) and work correctly. Bulbs are not included. The sconces are 13-1/2" high to the top of the candles. 4-3/8" wide, and they project 3-3/4" ... morefrom the wall(wall plate to front of shade) They use a candelabra style bulb. The candles are 5" long but only 4" is exposed, the rest being hidden by the candle holders. They weigh 3-1/2 lbs each. This item is an antique Brass Chandelier. It worked well when it was removed. I believe it to be from the 1920's or 1930's as this was when the house was built where the chandelier was removed. It is somewhat"dirty" and needs to be cleaned up. It would benefit from being rewired just to have peace of mind. It is molded chalkware from the 20's or 30's and looks like a basket of Spring posies being held to the wall by a large gold ribbon! The arms are metal. It is a pretty piece! It was probably a boudoir piece; but would also be so cute in any cottage decor! This piece measures: 17" long x 9" across at the arms x 6" deep. Issues: This item has hollow arms that undoubtedly held electric wires and the fluted ends held a"candle" electrical fitting to house a bulb. The hole in the middle of the basket housed the on/off switch. There is no reason why this couldn't be rewired to work properly as an electric fixture! As is; it has the right kind of paint loss to be"Shabby Chic" but wouldn't take much to be touched up or repainted ... moreto fit your own decor. Including"dressed up" for an elegant setting! This item does not have major chips; although there are some small ones that have been repainted. It has not been broken. We stripped all the old paint covering this gem and set to about our business of lovingly restoring it to its original beauty. Between the 1920s-1930s. Crafted in bronze and black lacquer. Origin: France. It is marked in the crown. Yet not legible for us. Below is what we believe it could read. Yet no guarantee. Presumed Markings: First Line: R& G Second Line: 3 A Third Line: 208 Fourth Line: 6 03 between the two screw openings. Lovely detail and design. Last but not least featuring Acanthus Leaf Crown Ornamentation and Acorn designs. Please view pictures ... moreclosely. There's more. Good condition- consistent with age and use. Showing scratches to top and bottom portions of lacquer. One arm would need to be re-bent. The chandelier is wired and ready to be put into use. Ceiling cap is included.
