London Taken from a building renovation in the late 1990s and possibly the only one of its ... morekind left from the area Description: Hello. This is an original antique Victorian wall sconce taken from Whitechapel, London, in the late 1990s. The item was on the ground floor of a building on New Road that was undergoing renovation from residential to commercial property(the street although once home to many in Victorian London now has many takeaways. Halal restaurants and cafes) The tenant was having a shop sign fitted to the front and when asked if the sconce could be removed from a covered side courtyard type entrance he happily agreed. The person who removed the sconce was the shop sign fitter. And fully aware of the significance of the item, kept it in his garage where it has remained since. There are no sconces left on buildings in Whitechapel- most having been damaged or thrown away- and it is very rare to find an original example of one from this area of London. Whitechapel is after all. The most notorious part of London having been the since of the Jack the Ripper murders. Although the sconce was retrieved from Whitechapel, the building's tenant did not know the history of the item such as how long it had been on the building, or when it was put there. In any case. Thankfully the sconce was rescued and persevered. It could now make an excellent collectors piece, or garden decoration for a large candle or hanging basket. Condition: The sconce has been repaired at the base part of the hinge. Look at the pictures and you will see a small patch of light metal that has been welded on to join together the two parts that had suffered a crack. The metal is pretty rusted and the oak wood mount is worn in places. It still functions and moves freely on the hinge. Shipping: All items are dispatched the next working day after payment. This fixture is a hard to find fixture and this particular on is free from rust which is very hard to find. Please take a close look at the pictures to see the amazing detail. It comes with the original finial. This lamp has the original 4 brass fat boy sockets as well. They are all General Electric Company sockets. This lamp has been rewired and is tested working. Antique Brass Hanging Lighting Fixture, Painted Black, For Restoration
This very old hanging porch lantern is brass under the black paint. It was electrified at some point but would need to be rewired. The bulb receptacle contraption looks like a fairly new addition and I'm quite certain that it was originally made to hold a candle or lantern. I have removed the glass panes as they were loose and will ship more safely. They have a slight texture. Are dirty and two of the four have a couple of chips around the edges. The lamp has little notches into which they should fit but it might be necessary to use glue to keep them in place. I'm not sure if the chain which seems to be made of iron is original to the lamp. The fixture is about 12" long and about 6-1/2" wide at the widest point. Castles and chateaus in small towns and in the countryside in order to make way for more new modern and less drafty conveniences. As a result, lots of their architecture was shipped abroad to the U.S. to resellers and antique dealers by the container load. This Antique French Country rustic wall sconce made of wood and wrought iron with faux candles holder covers is part of this ... moreliquidation in history. This is a great primitive sconce, which would give that typical French country cottage feel to your home and fabulous decor for indoors or outdoors as well. I purchased this pair directly from a French seller out of Normandy. France who strictly sold only vintage and antique chandeliers, wall sconces and lighting taken from all over the French countryside, so I personally know these to be genuine. These primitive sconces are from the early 1900’s and taken from an old cottage style farmhouse. They are in excellent condition as measure approximately 7” inches tall by 5” inches wide on the wood backing plaques. They were previously wired according to French standards, but I have replaced them with more modern safe American standard candle bulb parts& wires. I do not know what kind of wood the back plates are made of and they may have possibly been added at a later date when the wiring was installed on the iron pieces. Not for sure on this and just my personal thoughts. They are in excellent antique condition showing some light to medium rust patina from having been kept in storage in a barn. Antique Flat Black Iron& Gold Leaf Chandelier 1920's Dramatic Tudor. Gothic, Art Deco Removed from 1920's Tudor Cottage Uses 6 Standard Base bulbs. We used 40 watt chandelier bulbs on a dimmer. Looked great! Stamped 0128 and PAT. on each leaf inside. Each leaf seems to be made of Brass. But when you look at the inside of fixture where the stampings are, metal is bronze in color. Lantern - Antique Black Iron with Brass Top and Trim - Nice
Antique Auto/ Carriage/ Buggy lantern. It measures approx 8 ¾ inches tall. The front has clear- clean 2 ¾ inch glass lens(fresnel) and is not cracked. It has a black body with brass top and door lens holder. It has two minor dents on top of lantern. There are no dents on the lantern body. The front door opens and secures properly with screw closure. The exterior of the lantern is solid with no rust. the interior of the lantern has some surface rust. The door and top appear to be brass. I did not try to clean up or restore this lantern as the buyer may have a certain preference. A nice lantern complete with the burner. Antique Victorian Era, Black, Cast-Iron Gas Lamp Post/ light pole
This is a really nice old Victiorian era gas street light. Or yard light post. Don't know the exact age, but definitely old. It's very heavy, too, maybe as much as 200-300 pounds) but comes apart in 3 sections, which makes it much easier to transport(carred 2 in my Suburu Outback when i bought them) I am listing this as local pickup only, but if you want to purchase and have shipped, I would prefer that you make those arrangements yourself. I have electrified this for indoors. At one time I owned 2 and they were used as a headboard for a bed(actually pretty cool) They were electrified for that purpose. I have sold one already, and since we can no longer use this one in our home, though hesitant to sell, I really need to. if you have tall ceilings this is great for indoor use. It is 102 inches tall from the floor to the top of the ... morefinial above the light housing. It would be pretty simple to wire it for outdoor use, or even return it to gas. The individual I sold the other one to plans to convert his back to gas. This particular lamp came from the UK, either England, but possibly Wales. I can't find any marks on it, though, to definitively prove that. It has an access panel on the base(see pictures) with 2 screws holding it in place. Unfortunately, the screws are rusted solid, and will have to be re-tapped I imagine. The only other dimension I took was for the cross just below the lamp, it is 24 inches across. Will be glad to answer any questions you might have as promptly as possible.
