Pair of 19th Cent Solid Brass 3-Arm Ornate Gas Lamp Chandelier Plates Bases 14"
This is a pair of heavy. Old, solid brass chandelier plates. I was told they were removed from a pair of 19th century gas lamps. They are 14" in diameter and quite ornate. They each weigh 3 lbs 5 oz. They have recessed slots and screw hardware to accommodate 3 arms. We intended to restore them to finished hanging lamps, but we just have too many projects right now, so we'll pass them on to you. Up for consideration is a fine set of 7 double arm bronze Gothic/Tudor/Medieval wall sconces. The sconces measure 14 1/2 inches tall 9 1/2. They are bronze with two arms with a back plate that has a variety of themes. There is some panther heads that are peeping out from behind a shield. There are some Art Nouveau type floral embellishment in the center. A Gothic stained glass window type back drop with a winged Gargoyle on the bottom. Some of the sconces have a blue backplate and a few have a burgundy color. Both look to be original coloration. Two other sconces have been painted and sometime in the past with a silver color and one sconce has been stripped completely of color.These sconces are of nice scale not too big but chunky enough to display in a room with a 10. 12 or 14 foot ceiling. They have a large decorated Oval back plate and two ornate arms and a large center light decorated with ornate Acanthus leaves. They measure 14 1/2 inches tall by 9 1/2 inches wide by about 4 inches deep. They are marked Detroit line on the back. A matching pair of three arm antique wall sconces. 2 arms down.center arm up. They are brass I believe. Magnet does not stick anywhere. The down arms have 2 1/4 inch fitters as do the old shades that were on them. a couple of the fitters are bent. They have a Victor patent date of sept 23 1890. The sockets say Edison Patents. The turn switches say Bryant. On the bottom of the 2 center sockets it looks like at one time a pull chain had been there. No other markings. The caps that cover the wall have been cut out for some reason and have paint on them here& there. No splits bends or breaks in the arms. Overall wear to finish. No chips or cracks in the 4 shades other then normal fitter wear. Rare and good looking pair that need some help from a lighting guy.
