This gorgeous Victorian style fireplace surround was acquired many years ago by my folks. They found it while antique hunting or it possibly came from an old home that was torn down in Old Town Alexandria. It probably dates to the 1800's. It has actually been installed in my parents home to cover a fireplace opening and vent a wood stove through it- hence the 6" opening in the cover(which could be covered with something ornate for decorative purposes) Of course you could replace this cover with a more ornate one- I see the right size on ebay regularly. We recently removed the wood stove and are now offering this beautiful surround for auction. There are no cracks or splits. Some minor rust in nooks and crannies. My crating fee is $200(the freight charge is separate) Please contact me before purchase for rates. Here is a beautiful old pine mantle that was removed from a home that was built in the late 1920's. Fortunately. The slate surround and slate hearth came out without a fuss and are included. The finish appears to be original. As the shellac/varnish is crackled with a great patina. There are a few spots of over-paint here and there where it met the wall. There are also a few holes and nicks here and there. The large hole on the right(red arrow) is for the flue control handle(which is also included) ... moreand part of it's mechanism. The flue flap itself is not included. Check all photos for condition. There are pieces of base trim from the house that are included to finish off the bottom of the mantel's legs. They were trimmed out in place after the mantel was installed. The base trim pieces will need to be cut to size and installed by a carpenter. The original wooden trim surround for the hearth is also included, though it's in rough shape compared to the rest of the pieces. The slate pieces are in good shape overall. With some wear on their faces from many years of heat and use. The hearth stone has scuffs and wear, as well as a few chips here and there. Check all photos for condition. Antique. Circa 1890's, ornate cast iron summer cover surround. The surround measures about 24 1/2" wide, 20 1/8" wide inside x 30" tall, 25" tall inside x 3/4" thickness on side edges. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. The top gold painted areas have designs and flowers. Each gold side part has a torch with flames and leaves on the side. The paint is a recreation of the original colors. During cleaning and removal of top layers of added paint there was enough of the original paint remaining for me determine the color. Original Victorian Art Nouveau Fireplace Surround This is an antique fireplace surround that I recently removed from an old building in my area. This is an original Victorian piece that dates from the 1870’s to the 1890’s. The surround and grill are made of brass or bronze plated cast iron. The cover is made of tin. This surround has a total of 5 pieces: The top. Two sides, the bottom grill, and the cover. This is an awesome piece. It’s very ornate and detailed. It’s full of art nouveau design elements and has lots of swirled filigree and ornate texturing. It has a woman on the top. Cherubs on the sides, and even has little cherubs holding the tops of the columns. It’s in excellent condition with great patina. It has general wear and some very light rust in a few places. But doesn’t have any specific damages. There aren’t any chips, cracks ... moreor broken pieces on this piece. It has all of the original screws. This piece is 25 1/4 in. wide at the bottom. 25 1/8 in. wide at the top and stands 30 5/8 in. tall. It will stand about 3 in. off of the wall when installed. Out of an old 1890s Southern Victorian home about to be demolished this wonderful old cast iron surround was rescued. This surround has been stripped of many layers of stubborn and brittle paint. Measuring 27 1/2" Tall x 25" Wide or across the front. The inside dimension is 24 1/2" Tall x 18 1/2" Wide. After cleaning it turned put great. There is a small break at the bottom of the tight inside bottom hard to see but does not affect the surround in any way. Please take a look.

Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround-Frame-Cover-Ornate Victorian w/Grates
The first thing I would like to point out about this surround is that it does not have a can of krylon sprayed on it to cover it's imperfections. I've restored enough antique cars to know. It has been sandblasted and coated with a good laquer based paint. When you have done this, you know it when you see and feel it. I could almost say it's powder coated but I'm not positive. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between those 2 finishes. If you buy it, you will agree, it's not been sprayed with a can of krylon to flake off in a short period of time, it's been restored the right way and sandblasting old cast iron or steel is the only way to do it properly so it will last. It's not highly decorative, quiet simply ornate designs like a fan in the 2 upper corners. The ears for mounting the piece are still ... moreon it, all 4 of them. The only flaw I see is in the grate, you can see that it had definitely been used, the bottom part of the grates has been hot enough to break off some of those grates. If your going to use it, that can be repaired. This one was probably restored just to be used for looks and it looks great. The outside frame measures 27 1/4" tall and 23" wide. The opening is 24" at the center height and 16" wide. Very standard measurements for a surround, nothing hard to match for a standard fireplace opening. This surround is ready to be mounted. All pieces appear to be in great condition except for some surface rust. The internal parts are also included if you want them but the log holder is broken. The back is marked with numbers but no name(470. 65) The outside measurement is 30x30. I have seem similar items that are not as stunning as this piece list on websites for $650+. This piece came out of a restaurant that closed long ago in the South Jersey area. I'm not exactly sure of its age.
