Rosewood Fireplace Mantel with antique ceramic tiles and painted medieval scene
This rosewood fireplace mantel/surround is in the living room of a Victorian brownstone which was built in the 1870's by a Civil War colonel who was later the proprietor of a dry goods store. That was an age of opulence. And buildings on the street where this is were built with materials which simply are not available anymore. This is located in Pottsville. Pennsylvania, on the same block where author John O'Hara once lived. Only local pick-up is available. And the buyer is responsible for removing it from the wall and the premises.

This fabulous antique early to mid-20th century complete painted filigree carved wood fireplace with original terrific metal insert was recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh. Scotland and is a real find for someone looking to bring an old fireplace back to life with a fun, decorative touch. This is a beautiful decorative painted black filigree carved wood mantle with a separate decorative insert, with painted tile sides, embossed brass plaque and brass log restraint. It appears to be"ready to go" except for perhaps repainting the mantle black if desired. The overall dimensions of the piece are 62 1/2 inches wide by 51 inches tall and 10 inches deep, back to front. The dimensions of the fireplace box, also the measurement of the insert, is 37 inches tall by 38 inches wide by 6 inches deep back to front. The top of the fire place is a beautiful red marble that is about 1" thick. the front of the fireplace is faux painted marble to match look like the top. there are 2 man figure decorative tiles on the front. this fireplace has a lot of nice detailing to it. Around the firebox the material is iron, the wonderful piping around the fire box and on top of the hearth is made of brass. THIS TILE SET IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FIREPLACE SET I HAVE EVER SEEN! THIS IS THE COMPLETE SET OF 17 FOR THE SIDES AND TOP OF A FIREPLACE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE VICTORIAN HOME THAT THEY CAME OUT OF! THE TILE ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ACTUALLY AMAZING CONDITION CONSIDERING HOW OLD THEY ARE. THERE ARE LITTLE RAISED TIPS ON THE CENTERS OF EACH OF THE TILES, WHICH THE GLAZE HAS WORN OFF. I'M GUESSING AT SOME POINT THE TILE WERE STACKED AND THAT IS WHY THE GLAZE IS MISSING. THESE FLAWS ARE APPROXIMATELY 1/8" THE TILE STILL HAVE SOME OF THE MORTAR ON THE BACKS, AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. THESE TILES ARE 6" SQUARE. THEY ARE 7/16 OF AN INCH THICK. WHICH IS ALMOST 1/2 INCH. I'M NOT SURE. BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THESE TILES ARE MAJOLICA. HOPEFULLY YOU CAN TELL BY THE PHOTOS. Antique Majolica fireplace tiles. Identical 2-pieces, raised relief. Measures 6 inch square by about 3/8 inch thick, not including the raised relief. There are a few, very small chips on the high points of the relief. I tried to capture in the photos. No fracture lines. Some plaster debris still on sides of right tiles, can be easily removed by buyer. Also be aware that the shine on photos are not defects. The defects are very small and NOT white, shiny spots.
