Victorian style details such as chamfered edges around the opening; round bulls-eye style motifs carved on the ends of the crown/crest; small, lovely columns, which look like miniature, Eastlake style porch posts. Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. Awesome Period Antique Fireplace/ Mantle / **DIMENSIONS
This is a beautiful fireplace/ mantle combo which is a great architectural piece from I think the 1800s. Maybe older. I bought it as a focal point/ fireplace for Imy Victorian home which doesn't have a fireplace, and had used it for years without an actual fireplace, but am selling it now to accommodate a piano! It is 6' 8" 80" w. x 52" H. The fireplace opening is 43"w x 38& 6/16" h.The bookcase encompasses part of the lenghth being about 12-14" wide on the left side if looking at it head on.The bookshelves are moveable by way of 8" long wooden"pegs" The mantle is about 9.5" deep I believe. The paint which is hard& glazing is a pale pale pinkish/taupe color. It would be gorgeous I'm sure if refinished with the rich dark wood that barely peeks thru the cracks. This is a historic and authentic. Original, and very unusual vintage, turn-of-the-century natural gas fired stand-alone cast iron fireplace/mantle piece from the New England area. Not too many of these around. The unit measures about 36" wide X 7" deep X about 48" in height. The inner hearth area measures approximately 20" wide X 20 1/2" high. There is a cast iron center boiler main section behind the decorative cast iron(pictured as main section) which forms the majority of the mantle and fireplace piece and which has. At it's base, a decorative, functional, and exposed gas log(shown in silver) This boiler center section is itself a very. Very heavy cast iron structure. estimate is 150-200 lbs) There are two cast sides which bolt on, the top crown unit, and then the flat cast iron top piece. All the frontal outer ... moreportions of the unit are very decorative cast iron and have very decoratively detailed castings. The unit was originally painted a stunning gloss black. If the unit were sandblasted and resprayed it would look stunning. The exterior decorative cast pieces are artfully done and are part of the metal casting. You can see the beautiful cast metal design work in the photos. The center exposed gas log portion of the boiler section was painted a silver color which. Narurally, is designed to burn natural gas and which therefore heats the entire center section boiler which in turn would heat a room. The pipe connections and the valve to this gas log are attached. There is one more decorative cast iron piece(not shown) that covers the rear of the gas log to protect the rear wall surface from heat when the burner is in use. White Marble Fireplace Mantle, Surround, Metal Insert and Screen
You can see from the picture that this mantle is not installed. My contractor called me from a sale. Told me about the mantle, sent a picture, said it would fit and asked me whether I wanted to buy it for my living room. I agreed and was prepared to do the work to restore it. It turns out that it didn't fit once I got it home. AHHHHH! I would really like to re-coup my investment so please buy it if you can use it or want to fix it up and re-sell it. The mantle is a soft white with gray veins. The surround has less color. The screen is a brass color. I don't know whether it is solid brass but judging from it's age my guess is that it is. The screen itself has some rust on it. It will be a beautiful addition to any fireplace when it is restored and you will have gotten a bargain. Penn Antique Restoration. 56"x81" Antique Restored Carved Victorian Oak Fireplace Mantel Gorgeous. Antique, fireplace mantel salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. It is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: The original mirror had very little silvering left. So we didn't include it. The mantel will need a new mirror(flat ... moreor beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantel in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. But made putting it back together very difficult. We reassembled the mantel using modern glue, nails, and drywall screws. We also added hardwood stiffeners to the back of the mantel. Now, it's stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: Considering that the mantel is about 130 years old. It's in amazing condition! You will find the typical cosmetic blemishes: nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes. However, to the antique enthusiast, those are character marks not flaws. There are no structural threats(i.e. breaks, cracks, rotting, etc. Finishing: All this beauty needs now is a nice stain and/or finish. We've finished many mantels before(see last 5 photos)
