Up for auction are an amazing set of antique andirons/ firedogs. I was told by the person I bought these from that they were from the 1850's. They are definitely old and resemble andirons/ firedogs from the period of the Arts& Crafts movement. They each measure 32.5 inches in height x 24 inches in length and 15 inches across the base. There is no signature or hallmark on the andirons. It is possible these are older than the Arts& Crafts movement because of the possett cups. Possett was a popular medicinal drink from the medieval period to the 19th century. The andirons are in excellent condition and quite heavy. They are a large set of Andirons that would Truly Accent any Fire Place of Large size. The Andirons stand 35 1/2 inches tall X 11 inches wide at the base. The Fire screen 29 1/2 inches tall X 66 1/4 inches long X 16 1/2 inches deep. Design is in a half rectangle as you can see by the photo's. The detailing of the Screen is almost a Gothic look with the Hand Hammered edges and designs on the corners. These are beautiful old fire dog that are very rare and hard to find. I recently bought it from an Estate. The knights are heavy brass beautiful work on these with cast iron for the logs to lay across on. They measure 16 inches long for the longs and the knights on the horses stand about 15 inches high in Brass.the longs would be on what looks like a cast iron. I do not know exactly how old. Because of their weight I am asking $49.00 in US FUNDS to the United States or in Canada. Arrangements can be made for pick up in the lower mainland of British Columbia.

We are pleased to offer this incredible. Very large. Pair of antique andirons. Dating to the early 1900s, this pair is crafted in the Arts and Crafts, Mission fashion and era. The pair have a nautical theme and feature a large, Spanish galleon or clipper ship as their focal point. This exceptional and exquisite pair are a combination of iron and bronze/brass. The top section of the andirions are iron and feature the large ship medallion inside the outer frame. A large, detailed leaf is the top finial. The center columns are a barley twist design in an enameled/oiled type finish. They are bronze or brass as a magnet will not adhere to this section. The legs and feet are thick, forged iron as are the long, attached firedogs. This is a very rare pair with wonderful design and character. They are in very good condition for their age. They are ... morestructurally very sound and sturdy. They have an aged patina with some expected rusting to the iron. The andirions are VERY LARGE. Each measures 34" tall. They are 20" long with the firedogs attached. The bases measure 12" wide. I found these old cast iron dachshund andiron/ firedogs at an estate sale in the far back corner buried in a garage. Great pieces that you won't see too often. They do have some rust and corrosion as you can see in the pictures. One of the dogs has a broken tail. Which is a bummer, but it you wanted to use these that is the end that would be in the fire so you wouldn't notice it. These pieces are very heavy for their size weighing a combined weight of 57lbs. Gorgeous English Brass Fireplace Tools and Fire Dogs Dated 1882
This fabulous set of fireplace tools with matching fire dogs was made February 6. 1882(according to the British Registry marks on each of the tools and on each of the fire dogs) They are neo-classical in form with some Jacobean elements. The handles of the tools are draped classical urns with ring and baluster turnings in the approximate centers of each rod. The tongs have flat strapwork elements below the handle and at the tong ends. The shovel has keyhole shaped blade which is beautifully engraved with a patera, drapery and flowers. The fire dogs have animal legs and paw feet supporting classical urns and drapery. All the tools and the fire dogs are in superb original condition with no damage or notable scratches, etc. All are made of solid brass and appear to have been very lightly used in their 132 year existence. The tongs are 30.25" ... morelong, the poker is 29.75" long and the shovel is 28.25" long. The fire dogs are 10.75" tall. Washington State residents please add 9.5% State Sales Tax.
