Very old fireplace bellows. Stored inside a basement for many. Many years and has that basement scent especially when you blow it and air comes out. Rust on most of metal on this piece and rust/tarnish on nozzle. Paint on leather/wood does appear to come off when I lightly rub fingernail but it will not be removed. No major damage to leather. Spot with white paint and sticky. There are surface marks on wood. Leather and metal including scuffs/scratches. Sticky on one spot looks like from tag or something. Very nice long antique fire side bellows. Coach scene on the front of the bellows. With inscription. The last Halt. very long these bellows are 30 inches long. made up of wood. Leather and brass fittings, nice stud work along the sides. Condition is very good and in working order. It has had some woodworm in the leather in the distant past. But has been treated and the few holes have been filled. I try to mention any defects on the items I sell but can miss things. Antique functional CHARLES DICKENS Themed Fire Bellows made of Wood & Leather
Hello. Here is an interesting item, which I believe is antique early 20th Century. This is a CHARLES DICKENS themed Fire Bellows which is constructed from Wood and Leather. The Leather bellows bag has no holes. Upon operating the bellows you can feel a force of air passing through the metal tube at the end. As you can see the bellows does have a small brass medallion. Which is depicting CHARLES DICKENS. The Wooden levers do have a wood polished finish.The lower leather portion leading the the metal tube, that leather is a little scuffed but it appears not to have any holes. There is one stud missing from the line of studs in this area, but that would be expected if this item was made to be used on a fire rather than now being used as a decorative item and hung by a country cottage fire place. These bellows can still be a functional item. ... moreIf you have a fireplace and you sometimes find starting a fire can sometimes take time to get going, where as if you have these bellows, this would speed up the process with a forceful air supply to get that fire going. This is an old fireplace bellows made in Austria that is 6 3/4" wide& about 19" in length. It has stamped raised antiqued decoration as in the pictures that's either brass or copper along with a 3 1/4" brass nozzel& darks colored thumb tacks. The leather is soft with no cracks or holes. Great decorator piece& came from an estate sale.
