These REALLY look like brass. But a magnet sticks to everything, so I am assuming it is cast iron. They are at least from the 70's, because they were in my Mothers house for at least that long. They are very heavy, and solid. Of course, there is some slight surface rust and signs of age, but no damage or abuse to call. I think they will clean up beautifully! The poker is a little bent, but nothing that cannot be straightened if it bothered you. The stand's handle unscrews, from the base, so I will separate it for shipping. That should just about do it! I am unsure if they were repainted w/ high-heat paint, but I know for sure other than the paint, these Andirons are intended for a real fireplace. This listing is for a pair of antique cast iron English Style fireplace irons. We bought these irons when we lived in Virginia over 25 years ago and believe they may be of Colonial Virginia origin. We have made no attempt to restore them and current gray paint surface was well before we purchased them. You will notice that the inside shown in the last photo shows rust.
