1880 antique TOLE PAINT COAL SCUTTLE w/SHOVEL hod ROSES
What a gorgeous fireplace piece. Old tin with tole painted roses coal scuttle could be used for cleaning ashes from your fireplace. This piece measures approx 14.5" high x 11x15" Not including the extra for the shovel/scoop. Nice brass and wood shovel scoop is placed in pocket in back. Door opens on scuttle. The inner tray removes to clean using the 2 side handles. There is some paint loss as shown as expected from this early victorian piece. But it is an overall nice art painting of roses. Some dings too. The scoop is in excellent condition as shown. It appears that it is handmade as you can see uneveness in the edges of the brass. Nice heavy brass handles to carry on the scuttle. Victorian Decorative and Functional Brass Coal Hod
A beautiful Victorian coal hod complete with metal liner- and the liner even has a hint of coal dust! No guarantees on the coal dust. There are a few little nicks and dings from years of use but it seems to be solid brass- except for the removable liner- and someone has recently gone at it with Brasso so it just gleams! I purchased this at an estate sale of a collector of antiques& vintage items. I had never seen one before& didn't exactly know what it was. I understand that this is a"Hod" to hold coal for early fireplaces or stoves. I am selling the item"as is" But it appears to be in GREAT CONDITION, considering it's age. The outside shows it's age& has some darkening on the sides. dents in along the side edges on the front(please view the pictures) however front& the top look very appealing to me. The handle handle appears to be brass. But needs polishing. The interior chamber is in tact& the metal holder has no holes or rust marks. The shovel is brass with a wooden handle.
