I do not know much about these andirons, except to know that they come from the estate of the great-great grandfather of a friend of the family. Offered is a Pair of Rare Vintage Victorian Era Hand Forged Andirons. Each iron measures approx. 11 ½” long by 8 ¼” wide at the front feet. They stand between 8 ¾” and 9 ¼” tall. The front of the andirons is short by comparison to modern day andirons. And uneven at the top. It is unknown if they were modified to fit a specific fireplace through the years. Or originally designed with this primitive style and height. The old Victorian era fireplaces were usually much smaller than those of today. Please use the photo zoom for the best view. There is abundant surface rust and other natural aged patina scattered about. Consistent with that of 100 to 120+ year old antique ironware. The andirons have a hammered finish and full cannon balls on top. They are both marked“1919” and“L& R” for right and left. This vintage classic design will make your fireplace look awesome. This is the best pair of andirons we have seen in a long time. New/Used: Used. Approximate Dimensions in Inches- Andirons are 8 ¼” wide at the leg bottoms and stand 17 ½” tall. The two horizontal bars stand 3 ¼” from the floor. The total distance from front of guards to back of horizontal bars is 18” The balls are 3” in diameter. Condition: Very good. There is no rust on these andirons and the hammered black finish ... morelooks great. These are in remarkable condition for their age. Hello! Up for Auction: Here we have an Amazing Rare Vintage Antique Metal(either cast iron or wrought iron. I'm unsure of the difference) Andirons, Very Heavy and in Great Condition! These dog irons(as they are called. I think) are a complete set, original antiques, with no breaks, cracks, or damage, screwed together at the bottom(pls see pics) Note: at some point they were painted over w/ primer and gold paint for a fake fireplace. I am unsure if they were repainted w/ high-heat paint, but I know for sure other than the paint, these Andirons are intended for a real fireplace. They may need to be stripped and refinished w/ an original high heat paint/finish. All a simple fix and touch up worth doing to bring it back to looking stunning in your real fireplace!
