This mantel is circa 1880's. The summer cover and surround are cast iron with minor rust. It could be sandblasted and painted to your liking. The mantel and keystone are marbleized slate. My crating fee is $200(the freight charge is separate) Please contact me before purchase for rates. Here is a beautiful old pine mantle that was removed from a home that was built in the late 1920's. Fortunately. The slate surround and slate hearth came out without a fuss and are included. The finish appears to be original. As the shellac/varnish is crackled with a great patina. There are a few spots of over-paint here and there where it met the wall. There are also a few holes and nicks here and there. The large hole on the right(red arrow) is for the flue control handle(which is also included) ... moreand part of it's mechanism. The flue flap itself is not included. Check all photos for condition. There are pieces of base trim from the house that are included to finish off the bottom of the mantel's legs. They were trimmed out in place after the mantel was installed. The base trim pieces will need to be cut to size and installed by a carpenter. The original wooden trim surround for the hearth is also included, though it's in rough shape compared to the rest of the pieces. The slate pieces are in good shape overall. With some wear on their faces from many years of heat and use. The hearth stone has scuffs and wear, as well as a few chips here and there. Check all photos for condition. Impressive Salvaged Slate Mantel with Original Faux Finish NFPM67
This is a wonderful antique Aesthetic Movement slate mantel in its original faux finish. Circa 1890. The mantel has its original slate top that sits above a painted stylized urn and plant design. Each of its squared off legs feature a painted crenellated pattern along their top with a vertical panel consisting of playful painted floral motifs. The mantel is in very good antique condition, with some slight paint loss on the slate top, which can easily be repainted. Handsome fireplace mantel in slate. A wonderful example of 19th century Renaissance Revival/Aesthetic Movement design, done in a soft green stone. I was told this mantel was green slate but it could be Serpentine. A stone is used almost exclusively for interior finish and decorations, which is quarried here in the South. The stone could also be Soapstone which has its own unique beauty and colors. Soapstone. Which on the hardness scale is rated at one, compared to a diamond, which is ten, is nonetheless quite hard. This Awesome mantel and its original ceramic tile was removed from a house that was built in the 1800's in Southeastern Indiana. There are at least 3 or 4 different tiles that go with the mantel. There are 4 larger square tiles. 2 which are in the columns and 2 at the top corners under the mantel where the tile starts and the multi color tile was on the floor. The columns are a heavy cast iron made to look like it is wood with raised Cattails and beautiful design, awesome, the top mantel piece is an extremely heavy slate with a wood look finish on the top, the center piece is also a heavy cast iron, it ... morecomes with the two other black cast iron pieces and another piece of cast and roughly 250 to 300 ceramic tiles to make this mantal complete. The tiles have not been cleaned and some still have the mortar on the bottom of them. They do have a crazing to them. The darker color tiles are a beautiful green color, some of the pictures look as if they are brown but they are green. I believe they went around the two roman larger tiles. There are several tiles that were more fragile and broke while dissembling the mantel. They all will look great once they are cleaned, I do not have the knowledge for this and do not want to damage them in any way so I will leave the cleaning up to the buyer. This is a very RARE and awesome antique find along with the original tiles. The four larger figural tiles are extremely RARE also. This mantel. ANTIQUE, FAUX MARBLE, PAINTED SLATE FIREPLACE FRONT AND MANTEL
Everything is here and in very good condition. There is one piece which I believe to be a lesser seen part of the fireplace that has been broken in two but both pieces are here and they fit together quite well. It seems like it would be a very simple repair to make at the point of installation. I understand the posted pictures are a bit jumbled and you have to use your imagination a bit to'see' the finished product. If there is someone interested. I will take the time to'assemble' the item on the ground and snap a photo. The full arch is metal while everything else is slate(approx 1" thick) The top of the mantel has 2 or 3 areas of scratches seemingly from years and years of keys or coins being deposited in those areas.
