This is a beautiful pair of cast iron and brass fire dogs. The shape is a dragon with what looks like a swan back and in the front one foot rests on a brass heart. They measure 9 1/4" tall by 8" long 3 1/4" wide. They are in wonderful uncleaned condition with some rust especially on the underside. On the underside it looks like it says Pat. 89. I found these old cast iron dachshund andiron/ firedogs at an estate sale in the far back corner buried in a garage. Great pieces that you won't see too often. They do have some rust and corrosion as you can see in the pictures. One of the dogs has a broken tail. Which is a bummer, but it you wanted to use these that is the end that would be in the fire so you wouldn't notice it. These pieces are very heavy for their size weighing a combined weight of 57lbs. Pair of Vintage Cast Iron Metal 13" Fire Dog Andirons Bronze Plate Pine Cone Top
Pair of Brass Andirons Both are 13 inches tall. I think they are cast iron and then brass plated. As you can see they have a little 3rd leg that can be folded up for storage or extended back to make it stand. I would say these are strictly decorative. Most andiron have a bar or trough for the logs to sit on and burn. These DO NOT. Very good condition. One of the pine cones tilts ever so slightly. See photo#3. Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14"
Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14" These andirons belonged to my wife's grandmother. I would guesstimate they are from the late 1800's- early 1900's. They are made of brass and iron. I'm fairly certain the iron is hand forged due to the inconsistency in the shape. The brass head piece has a 2 1/2" canon ball top& small ball feet on the ends of the legs. There are a couple of very minor dings on both of the canon balls as can be expected with anything of this age that was designed to be used. The legs were bent a little and I tweaked them a bit to straighten them out. Might need a tad more tweaking. As far as I know they have there original patina and have never been shined. They are approximately 27 1/4" long x 14" tall x 5 1/2" wide. The square ... morenut is rusted in place and will need to WD-40 or something similiar if you wanted to loosen or tighten.
