The handles are finished with reeded decoration to the uppers of the shafts with large reeded orbs to the terminals. The tongs are more ornate as can be seen in the images. There is a pretty engraved and pierced floral motif to the well shaped spade. Obviously the poker tip is of robust iron. These are a very robust set weighing in at over 3kgs! They are offered in as found condition. They have not been recently polished but the pieces are still pleasantly bright. SET OF THREE VICTORIAN BARLEY SUGAR TWIST BRASS FIRE IRONS. Two years ago to the day. We were instructed by'the powers that be' to totally empty and remove the whole of the content of a very remote and isolated Dartmoor cottage. The dwelling having had a'compulsory purchase order' levied upon it. When we eventually located and arrived at the property which was serviced by only a single cart track, we were astonished at the amount of antiquated and vintage items and furthermore, the years of compacted clutter that confronted us. The cottage had been unlived in for the previous two and a half years but surprisingly the contents were still totally intact and the place was remarkably dry. The reason for the contents still being in situ, intact and unmolested was the very remoteness of the place, out of site of prying eyes, if ... moreyou get my drift. There was no gas, no electricity, just natural spring water and an old oil stove for cooking. The site put me in mind of the famous'Lorna Doone' classic, so intense was the isolation and its outstanding naturally beautiful surroundings. Lighting was by paraffin lamps of which there was a surfeit and many of these were fully operational. We forged ahead and completed the job, disposing of all the'tat' and removing a vast amount of'smalls' to the store. These were kept back for further investigation and to determine their commercial value, a service they never received.the best laid plans of mice and men!I must interject at this point and explain that at that same time as this clearance, checking back in the books, we had no less than four jobs on the go in that particular week and things got slightly out of hand and stuff got pushed anywhere, simply to create space! However, the'cottage' goods have now all come to light in the very back of one of the sheds and at this late date they will have to be sold off to release their latent equity and let some other enterprising soul investigate them.This offering is one of the effects of wh

ART DECO BRASS FIRE TOOLS / IRONS WITH ROSEWOOD & BAKELITE HANDLES
A stylish set of Art Deco brass fire tools/ irons. Dating from the 1930s/ 40s. The tools include a brush. Poker and shovel, they each have a rosewood handle with an inlaid green and white bakelite band. The poker measures 18" long. Brush is 11 1/2" and shovel is 15 1/2" They may benefit from a polish. Otherwise all in good vintage condition and would look great in any period interior, get ready for the long cold winter we might have. Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14"
Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14" These andirons belonged to my wife's grandmother. I would guesstimate they are from the late 1800's- early 1900's. They are made of brass and iron. I'm fairly certain the iron is hand forged due to the inconsistency in the shape. The brass head piece has a 2 1/2" canon ball top& small ball feet on the ends of the legs. There are a couple of very minor dings on both of the canon balls as can be expected with anything of this age that was designed to be used. The legs were bent a little and I tweaked them a bit to straighten them out. Might need a tad more tweaking. As far as I know they have there original patina and have never been shined. They are approximately 27 1/4" long x 14" tall x 5 1/2" wide. The square ... morenut is rusted in place and will need to WD-40 or something similiar if you wanted to loosen or tighten.
