Function/Use: Used for support the top shelf of a mantle. Savaged from European chateau in Prague. Lot consists of two(2) corbels. Structure/Composition: Made of hand carved hardwood with dark brown stain. Unstained side shows little grain ands is light honey colored. So it could be poplar or oak. Wear-and-Tear: In excellent condition; varnish is chipped in places. But no damage to the wood. Edges to the leaves are still crisp and unworn. Removal from wall was done well, no chips missing from the corbels; no pry marks or damage from the removal. The wood backing strip that the corbel is glue to is split, but the corbel itself is not. Antique Wooden Custom Built Fireplace Mantel Salvaged from Arts & Crafts House
Up for auction is an amazing and beautiful fireplace mantel that I salvaged from a 100 year old home located in a Northshore suburb of Chicago being razed.for supposed progress. We salvaged a number of items. With this being one of the pieces remaining. I do not believe I can use this near future as I am no longer restoring old homes. I am hoping to locate a buyer/builder looking for a unique focal point for their home, as this could be it. I sold the faience tiles that were part of this mantel, however companies like Motawi Tileworks sell wonderful replacements. The Mantel is 88.5" Wide X 88.5" Tall(my measures. But it is very close if not perfect) I've included a photo of most dimensions that will help you decide if this will fit. Most likely this will be for a new build or renovation, as it was custom built for the original ... morehouse. There are two side panels, as the mantel stuck 11" out from the wall, which can be used or not(flush with the wall) The mantel is dismantled and I have all of the trim pieces, so it is ready to be installed.I highly recommend a professional carpenter.
