This is a rare French Provincial Style clock.So it's very formal and could go in almost any room. This gorgeous piece can be a tall mantle clock or go on any table or nightstand or chest of drawers. The face of the clock is gold and very ornate with Roman Numerals and thats where it's marked Louis XV. There are no other maker's marks that can be seen. Restored, antique fireplace mantels salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. Each mantel is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half of each mantel has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half of each ... moremantel has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: One of the mirrors was missing. And the other had very little silvering left. They will need new mirrors(flat or beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantels in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. The upper shelf is supported by sound columns with ornate composition capitals. It has it's original beveled mirror framed in egg and dart molding. The lower shelf is supported by 2 corbels with ornate composition faces. The opening is filled with a slate panel that is scored and faux painted to look like tile with an arch topped register at the bottom. It measures 54.5 inches wide by 80 inches tall and is 12.25 inches deep. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. One corbel has a small chip. There is some loss to the decoration and a couple of small chips to the veneer with some loss. The mantel is embellished with finely-carved. Victorian style details such as chamfered edges around the opening; round bulls-eye style motifs carved on the ends of the crown/crest; small, lovely columns, which look like miniature, Eastlake style porch posts. Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. If you would like us to hand-carve and apply the missing pieces, email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great structural condition. There are some cosmetic blemishes. Which we opted not to repair in case you prefer a more distressed look. There are chips, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. The most obvious are shown in the"Close up" photos. The light scrapes and scratches will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. Remarkable Antique Queen Anne Carved Pine Mantel with Mirror, c. 1890’s NFPM6
This is a fabulous antique Queen Anne style pine mantel. Dating from the 1890’s. It is crowned with an arched top, which is carved with a stylized foliate motif, and has a small shelf just below the arch, surrounded by a stick-and-ball railing. The shelf is followed by a scalloped border, which extends to a gracefully curved bracket on either side. Outside each bracket is a piece carved with a fan-shaped, fern-like design, curving down to the second shelf. The second shelf has a lovely beveled edge, and is supported by two pairs of balusters, which flank the beautifully aged beveled mirror. Each pair of balusters frames a beautiful leaf-shaped carved design and rests on the main shelf, connected to the last shelf by a fabulous pair of small turned spindles. The final shelf, a small ledge extending just above the firebox opening, is surrounded ... moreby a stick-and-ball railing, which angles inward at the front and is accented by two small ball finials. The ledge is supported beneath by a wonderful pair of turned posts. The firebox and the sides of the mantel feature lovely chamfered edges. This mantel is in excellent condition; it has been stripped and is ready to accept a finish. Striking antique quarter-sawn oak fireplace mantel with a beveled mirror. Dating from the early 1900s. This Art Nouveau style mantel features intricate carving and a gorgeous tiger-stripe grain in the wood. The top of the mantel features beveled levels, coming down to a panel with raised vine leaf carvings around the outer edges. This section is supported by round columns with foliate capitals that extend all the way down. The beveled mirror is surrounded by a decorative tooth trim, and below is a projecting shelf with rounded edges. The shelf is supported by pilaster capital brackets with raised scrolling foliage carved below. Each mantel leg features a second round pilaster with decorative capital.
