Gorgeous antique fireplace mantel. Made entirely of marble and dating from the 1870's. The mantel features a delicately curved top, below which is a marvelous cartouche with a stylized anthemion. On either side of the cartouche are carved bracket-shape details. The mantel's legs feature a rounded beveled edge and come down to a squared-off base. The firebox opening is an elegant arch. There is one piece which I believe to be a lesser seen part of the fireplace that has been broken in two but both pieces are here and they fit together quite well. It seems like it would be a very simple repair to make at the point of installation. I understand the posted pictures are a bit jumbled and you have to use your imagination a bit to'see' the finished product. If there is someone interested. The full arch is metal while everything else is slate(approx 1" thick) The top of the mantel has 2 or 3 areas of scratches seemingly from years and years of keys or coins being deposited in those areas.
