Antique Federal Period Brass Andirons, C. 1810, Chippendale Style, Full Seams
This is a pair of late 18th to early 19th C. Chippendale style andirons in brass with iron returns. Appropriate to their age. They are have full-seams, hand peened rivets, and a very old patina. They are 15.5"H, 8.25"W, and 16.75"D. There is a repair near the base of one upright, another repair at the base of the other, and some solder is visible. There is slight corrosion to the very top of one andiron, and there are a few small gaps in the seams of the andirons' sections. However, they are sturdy and appropriate for use. These post colonial American craftsman made items each measure 18" tall X 15 1/4" deep X 6 3/4" wide. And each weighs 6 pounds. 6 ounces. Each tall brass standard consists of two separate sections. Forming of a turned shaft of many curves with the unusual center square. The andirons rest upon cabriole legs and still retain their glorious original golden patina! Appropriate to their age. Antique Early 1800's Federal Era Hand-Forged Brass and Cast Iron Andirons
These Antique Hand Forged Brass Cast Iron Andirons date to the early 1800's in a Federal Period Blacksmith shop. They have spurred cabriole legs and slipper feet that are hollow in back; the feet and plinth. The brass dressed cast iron billet bar with log stops, and the beehive/acorn/lemon steeple are typical of the Boston craftsmen in that period. They have the knobby baluster and pencil thin-stripe from top to bottom on both sides that date them to the 1820's era. In that era. Andirons were made by half casting the brass and brazing the parts together with a brazing material that left the thin line. The craftsmen changed the brazing material in about 1830. The supporting iron rod is hand forged and the thread at the upper end where the top screws on was crudely cut by hand with a file. See Pic#4 and#5. The 3 1/2" slab of brass ... moredressing at the front of the each plinth(log holder) is not marked but it does add to their authenticity and beauty. Their condition is excellent vintage with a nice patina and no dents or dings. One is just a little less tight on the rod. They stand a little more than 17" tall and the log holder is 15" in depth and 4 1/2" from the floor. They weigh about 14 pounds.

DESCRIPTION– Estate fresh and rarely found Federal period(1790-1830) brass andirons with matching tools and tool jambs. They have double urn tops and finials with beaded banding above round columns that sit on spurred cabriole legs with hoofed or slipper feet in the Chippendale style. Most likely a New York or Boston foundry. The former owner was told these were by Richard Whittingham. Since I am not an expert in this area I am selling them as Federal period. CONDITION– They are in very good and sturdy condition with age related wear. There are possible old areas of repair/reinforcement to the ends of the iron dogs. A tear to the edge of the shovel, and a separation or repair to one of the log stops. The brass needs to be polished/cleaned. In the photos the legs may appear splayed out as they sometimes get. These are a pair of period brass Chippendale or Federal andirons(18th to early 19th C. With spurred legs, ball feet, and the original iron dogs. The andirons are constructed in sections with full seams. They retain an original dark patina. Each andiron is approximately 17.5"H. 9"W, and 16.25"D. They are in fantastic shape for their age with no visible dents or repairs. Neither andiron is perfectly upright, but I would be surprised if they were. The brass is around a wrought iron core and there is a seam in the middle. The legs are solid brass with well defined spurs. Pair of elegant Early Antique Brass Andirons* Ball tops on baluster shafts. Spurred cabriole legs and slipper feet with conforming brass ball-top log stops. Wrought Iron Supports. They are in un-polished condition and would shine nicely if the buyer decides to do so. I was unable to locate, or identify a makers mark though it is possible there is one under all the soot build up or elsewhere. As you can see in the pictures the wrought iron beams are entirely hand forged. I occassionally use USPS for lightweight items if it is cheaper. They are 20.25" tall. 12" wide, and 13.5" deep. They weigh 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 9 lbs. 1.5 oz. They are from the late 1800's or early 1900's, but I was unable to figure out who made them. They have eagle claw feet, roman columns, a 14-sided shape, and stylized flames. Each brass element was cast separately. The twist in the cast iron was forged by a blacksmith, but the vertical piece at the end was soldered on. The brass has a lot of light scratching and patina from age, and there are several small chips in the brass. I wiped the dust off, but have not polished it. Period Federal Colonial 1700s Antique Brass Double Lemon Top Andirons Fire Dogs
This is a set of genuine 18th or early 19th century Double Lemon Top brass andirons with spurred legs and ball feet. As can can see in the picture one of the andirons is missing it's middle brass"plinth" section. The other Plinth present. However, so perhaps the winning bidder can fabricate a plinth with a mold from the remaining one? Or just use as-is. The andirons are a little over 17" tall. By about 21" deep and weigh about 12 lbs total. The are genuine antiques, with seamed construction and screw-on lemon tops. The double spurred legs are peened to the iron base. The remaining plinth is about 4 5/8" tall and the opening at the top is just over 1 1/8" in diameter. The set is totally unpolished and has a really old verdigris-surface. They are cast brass with a Federal urn top and finial. There is an elegant design fabricated on both the urn and upper shaft. Which tapers into a fluted column and square plinth. The pair sets on spurred arch legs and penny feet. They also have very decorative flame finial log stops. Each piece stands a statuesque 25 3/4" high by 12 1/2" wide at the feet, and 20 1/2" in length, and weigh 12 pounds each. 1700's from a water Front Estate rarely found Federal period(1790-1830) brass tools. They are in great shape. Poker has few dings on the shaft and shovel has a small crack by the rivet but this doesn't effect it's usability. Most likely a New York or Boston foundry. The former owner was told these were by Richard Whittingham. Since I am not an expert in this area I am selling them as Federal period. MARKS– Could not find any signatures or markings. Federal Style Colonial Revival Brass Fireplace Andirons
Here's a wonderful pair of vintage brass Federal Colonial Revival style andirons! They have an urn finial on top. A turn styled center and cabriole legs. They have cast iron firedogs that extend a little over 11" to hold the logs and there's a small urn finial that matches the top one. Each andiron is marked on the bottom"3 KNICK" 106. The right andiron is marked R& the left andiron is marked L. They have a worn antique-patina. I don't feel any nicks nor dents. I see small scratches and they are smooth to the touch. Each andiron measures 16 1/2" long(including the fire dog log setter) and stands 19 3/4" tall.

A rare find! A matching set of Andirons from the early 1800s made in the USA. Many pairs have been reworked over the years. Look at my pictures to see that they are symmetrical Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE in size and scope. The line where the hollow brass castings were brazed together is vague but still visible. The interior post. Where the top piece is screwed into the bottom, is hand filed. See picture for details. For the pictures. I placed the pair face-to-face to show that the width and spread of the feet are equal. One picture also exhibits the equal height and that billet bars are of equal length and have not been cut down. These andirons are the Beehive Ball Shape with an Acorn finial at the top. They feature a brass plate dressing and brass log stops at the front and cast iron band log stops that are adjustable ... moreat the back. They have spurred cabriole legs and snake feet. They have a nice patina still. Especially around the feet, legs and plinth(the parts that have been closer to the fire. They have a few dings and scratches which only adds character to their presentation. They measure 17 1/2" high X 16" long and the front feet at the slipper foot is 11" wide.

This is a rare pair of Antique late 18th or early 19th century Federal andirons. Attributed to Richard Whittingham of New York, based on a Christie's Auction in 2002 for a nearly identical pair of Andirons. These large andirons measure about 22 1/2" tall, by 24" deep and weigh about 12 1/2 lbs. each. These andirons are among the finest made in the US during the Federal Period. The Urn detail is outstanding both on the large urns and small log-stop urns. Which include reeding as well as other fine details. The rare 1/4 turn pierced gallery fence is a great detail, and is one of the details that gives this pair an attribution to Richard Whittingham. You are bidding on a fantastic pair of Antique Federal Style brass and iron andirons or fire dogs. This pair measure 22.5" tall. 10" wide, 18" long. Heavy and very nice quality. Overall the condition is Very Good with an age and nice patina and usual scratches and wear from years of use(please see all pictures as part of the description) The legs are solid brass. These andirons have a beautiful shape that bend and play with the light to a wonderful effect. Fresh from an old wealthy estate. Please see my other auctions for more quality items. The brass has some areas of green color oxidation what is expected for the brass of this age. For sale is a stunning pair of period Fedral brass and cast iron andirons both marked"Jewel" These andirons have fluted columns with flame finials around an urn. The base is a 4 footed stepped design with scrolled ends around a laurel wreath. These are original antique firedogs. That I believe were made in the 1820's. The andirons are fresh from an upscale estate sale and are in excellent condition. If you choose, they could be polished up to really shine, but we'll allow the new owner to decide.
