These Tongs are in amazing condition for the age. The tongs are hinged. And only one side moves. There is a hand hammered pin in the cast top piece that holds the hinge together. You can also see the hammer marks on the bends just beside the hinge. The tongs measure 23 inches tall and they're 3 inches wide at the hinge. The tongs were painted at some point and there is significant paint loss. No Rust though. Excellent Rare example here. We cannot find a name but there are several numbers on the bottom and hammered on the front where the pen is pointed The numbers are hard to read but we will try and make them out. Where the pen is pointed the# is R2464565. There are 2 places where that# is stamped On the bottom it reads 3006 SL7027 RECd No We think we have the numbers Right. Measures 13" long- I'm not really certain as to what their original use was but they are an amazing set of tongs with a little latch that keeps them closed when they are not being used. Gorgeous Antique Ornate Brass& Steel Fireplace Tool Set Selling a beautiful set of fireplace tools. Likely dating to the early 20th century. This set includes three tools, each made of brass and steel. These are high quality tools. Each is made of brass and steel, and has a finely cast brass handle. This antique set looks very similar to a brass and steel set illustrated in Judith Miller's book, Antiques. Appraised at $1200 to $1800. I have shown that set from her book in the last photo(see top right corner of page) The set I'm selling here shows signs of having been used and well cared for over the years, and they are in excellent condition.
