Vintage Solid Brass Fireplace Andirons Large 11" dia. Ball Finials 17.5" H
Very nice pair of old brass ball andirons. Solid and heavy. The one arm or extension has been repaired with a sleeve of sorts and wiring around the arm. It is shown in photo 2. Nice repair job and very usable. I started to polish the finials(one on right has been partially polished) Would b gorgeous polished. Measure almost 18" high and the extensions are 14" The balls measure 11" around the ball. So they are on the larger size. The only identification I could find is what looks like 100K or R on the bottom of one of the arms. These came from an estate in Baltimore. A massive and fine pair of ANTIQUE brass fireplace andirons. Blacksmith-forged wood supports are original. The log stops. Feet, and secondary supports are all brass, just discolored from use. The only parts that are not brass are the horizontal log supports. This is an early pair. I have added a photo of the underside so that you can see that the tops are connected by a rod through the log stop and base. You will note that the rod bottom is peened or flattened with a hammer. This is a true indicator of age. Later 19th century ... moreandirons will have a rod that extends through the base with threads on the end. Secured by a nut. An exceptional pair. Unmarked, as best I can tell, and certainly worthy of further research. This pair is massive. And extremely heavy. Each stands 16 3/4" tall and 21" deep. The feet are 10 1/2" wide. Sold just as-found. Uncleaned and unpolished, with original warm patina. The smooth surface is as good as I have seen. This set displays beautifully. With expected wear, surface scratches, and minor dings, but no repairs. One has a short split on the BACKSIDE, as seen in bottom photo, but this is not visible from the front. The other andiron is missing it's secondary brass foot. I am not an expert on antique brass, so please view photos for exact condition. These are easily disassembled. Here we have a pair of antique cast iron and brass andirons. They are complete with back log racks. They are in excellant condition as I have brushed the bottoms and painted them a flat black to protect the iron from rust. The brass tops need a lot more brass polish put on them but they will shine up nicely. The andirons stand about 20 inches tall. The base is 8 inches wide and about 3/4 inch thick. The log rack is 16 inches and are 3/4 by 3/4 thick. I will take these apart so they will mail in a Large flat rate box.

Offered is a Pair of Rare Vintage Victorian Era Hand Forged Andirons. Each iron measures approx. 11 ½” long by 8 ¼” wide at the front feet. They stand between 8 ¾” and 9 ¼” tall. The front of the andirons is short by comparison to modern day andirons. And uneven at the top. It is unknown if they were modified to fit a specific fireplace through the years. PAIR OF ANTIQUE WROUGHT IRON ANDIRONS O LOOP DESIGN This clean pair of andirons dates to the mid to late nineteenth century. They were found in an estate near Harpers Ferry. West Virginia. They are hand forged and thus not identical in size or shape. The larger of the two measures 12-3/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. The other is 13-1/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. As the measurements indicate. They are similar in size except for their height. Despite their age. Nice Pr. Vintage Or Antique Heavy Cannon Ball Type Andirons; Each 11 Lb.
This is a nice pair of vintage or antique cannon ball style andirons. The andirons each are 21" in total length and 18 1/4" in height. The top ball on these is 3" in diameter. I'm not really good at telling iron from steel but the upright fronts showing the nice hammered effect or workmanship look more like steel to me. The long horizontal extensions for holding logs appear to be iron. The andirons have some surface rust on them as you can see in the photos. Generally I take surface rust off iron or steel with kerosene or oil on a rag but didn't do this so they can be used right away in a fireplace without any fumes. The underside of the extensions had some letters and numbers incised on each one. One extension on the underside is marked AR 2 and the other one AL 2. Also both andirons have a'WC' marking on the ... moreinside of each leg. Perhaps this is a maker's identifying mark. Have tried to photograph these for the viewer. The last photo shows some black finish on the ball of one andiron. These pieces may well have been allover black at one time or at least the fancy fronts. I have looked both andirons over carefully and find no cracks. Chips, bruises, scrapes, or repairs from them being carelessly moved about over the years. Also, other than some surface rust or stain there were no places found where the metal has flaked or deteriorated. The metal is quite solid. Some discoloration and roughness can be seen where the extensions held the logs in the fire for many years. Still this area is solid and does not show surface metal breakup. See the last few photos. One can see two original long vertical casting lines on each side of both fancy upright front pieces. There is some crude casting as one vertical line may be not quite flush against the line coming down from the other side on these front pieces. There is also a little other rough casting that is typical of work done years ago. On the flat extension pieces one can see a few inches of very fine parallel surface lines done in the

This is a set of BRASS fireplace andirons. They are traditional in style. They measure 16" H x 7 7/8" W x 17 1/4" D. They weigh 4 1/2 pounds per piece for a total of 9 pounds before packaging.
