Structure/Composition: Made of hand carved hardwood with dark brown stain. Unstained side shows little grain ands is light honey colored. So it could be poplar or oak. Removal from wall was done well; however one corbel is missing a chip on the backside and the other has a small crack on the side from their removal from the wall. This is a piece that I used for a Mantle Top to my rock fireplace. It was a top piece from an Antique Buffet. I have replaced the rock stuff and purchased a different mantle. Therefore, this piece is available for someone else to love. It has a really small China cabinet on top(mirror on back) With mirrors on each side and bottom. Carved oak tops, We put a solid piece of Oak for the mantle shelf. I paid more for it 20 years ago and then altered it. I just don't have the room for it any more. What could you use it for? It would be awesome as a tabletop for handmade table legs and frame. This was salvaged(or more to the point. Rescued) from an old building demolition. There were others that got destroyed before I was able to grab them. This had a lot of old window sill glue that I carefully removed and this piece has been sanded tremendously. You can see in the photo below the notching on the bottom side of this slab where it was fastened to wood framing. Even though I sanded it for hours. It is quite smooth ... moreand soft to the touch. But, there will be some light scratch marks still on it. The ends are a little asymmetrical from where I ground away the chips and did some sanding. The quarter sawn oak has nice tiger stripe patina on top. It has a deep bevel all around with a contoured skirt below. Clean, tight construction. Tons of imaginative uses and can easily be cut to reduce depth. Overall this measures a whopping 7FT long. Sticks out from wall almost 10 inches. Literally thousands of possibilities for unique corbel brackets underneath. Many other Victorian architectural antiques listed. All questions encouraged and answered.
