This is a hard to find complete fireplace tools set by Bradley& Hubbard Company circa 1885. The set includes a stand. Poker, tongs and a shovel. The fire tool stand measures 27" in height. It is marked on the back of the upright B& H 9705 Pat Appld For. The base is also marked 9705. The poker has an old repair. Otherwise condition of this set is very good in every respect. Victorian Oak Mantel Aesthetic Movement Carved Relief Beveled Mirrors 1870
For your consideration. An embellished oak mantel from Michigan, dates 1870. Overall measures 5' wide x 6' 8" Quite ornate. With three beveled mirrors, large mirror measures 23-1/2 x 15-1/2" smaller 9-1/2 x 7-3/4. A row of stick and ball on the top shelf. Behind the top shelf scrolling relief in a lovely design. With two smaller shelves under the mirrors, held by small turned posts. Opening is 35-1/2 x 3' high, surrounded by 8 rows of ribbing. In wonderful condition, there is light scratching on the large mirror. Also included is an ornate cast iron firebox, does need cleaning and paint, it will look fabulous. Salvaged Slate Mantel with Original Faux Finish, Aesthetic Movement NFPM65
This is a wonderful antique Aesthetic Movement slate mantel in its original faux finish. Circa 1890 and salvaged out of a home in St. Louis. The mantel's original slate top rests upon two substantial corbels and sits above a painted stylized foliate design. Each of its squared off legs feature a vertical panel with coordinating painted motifs. The mantel is in very good antique condition, with some slight paint loss on the slate top, which can easily be restored. The mantel measures 60-1/2” wide, 45” tall, and 11” deep; the firebox opening is 27-3/4” wide and 32” tall. The mantel disassembles for shipping. Amer. Aesthetic Movement Mantel with Anglo-Japanesque Panels RAREST Of THE RARE
This is an American Aesthetic Movement Cast Iron Fireplace Mantel circa 1885 with embossed hand painted polychromed art panels. This is the"rarest of the rare" cast iron mantle and I challenge you to find another. I have spent an exhaustive amount of time trying to determine the history of this piece. A photo of another or any kind of information. I believe this to have been a special order piece. HISTORY: We purchased this piece in Covington Kentucky from a private homeowner who had done some'remodeling' and had removed this mantle from a formal living room to install"media bookcases" The home was a circa 1885 Italianate Townhouse. Architecturally very nice. But it is my belief that this mantle was acquired, and installed at some point in the homes history, as the mantle in the dining room was a more typical cast ... moreiron piece I would expect to find in a house like this. I have done an exhaustive search of"mansion history" in the Covington/Newport area and have not found any photographic references of a house this may have came from nor have I found any'catalog references" of this'style' mantel being offered by local companies of the era that sold mantles. It is more likely this is an east coast piece that was special ordered by someone. RESTORATION AND CONDITION: The mantle itself a heavy cast iron and is assembled in several section with the"decorative panel section" as a one piece. This is similar in design(except for these panels) to other Renaissance Revival mantles. The panel section appears to be by a"built up" method rather than the embossed method as the back panels on the back are smooth. We used a well known decorative artist to do a paint analysis and painting and the colors were chosen to recreate what we believe the original polychoming looked like. We were advised to not strip or sandblast the piece to take it to bare metal. So there are normal imperfections you would expect with age. No attempt was made to'over restore
