I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. Here we have an amazing cast iron fireplace surround complete with frame and door. It came from a home built in 1901 and mantle it was with was dated 1901 on the builders label. As you can see it has an incredible Outdoor Scene with deer and a 12 point buck and other very ornate detail. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian home. It is made of oak with a light coat of reddish brown paint. The upper shelf is trimmed in beaded molding. It is supported by tall round columns with ornate capitals. The lower shelf is curved with carvings on the face supported by a center bracket. The firebox and beveled mirror are framed in egg and dart molding. It measures 60.5 inches wide by 86 inches tall and is 12.5 inches deep. The firebox opening is 41.5 wide by 39 tall. Restored, antique fireplace mantels salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. Each mantel is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half of each mantel has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half of each ... moremantel has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: One of the mirrors was missing. And the other had very little silvering left. They will need new mirrors(flat or beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is veneered in 1/4 sawn oak and is unpainted. The upper shelf is supported by sound columns with ornate composition capitals. It has it's original beveled mirror framed in egg and dart molding. The lower shelf is supported by 2 corbels with ornate composition faces. The opening is filled with a slate panel that is scored and faux painted to look like tile with an arch topped register at the bottom. It measures 54.5 inches wide by 80 inches tall and is 12.25 inches deep. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. One corbel has a small chip. There is some loss to the decoration and a couple of small chips to the veneer with some loss. The face of the shelf is fluted and supported by 4 Eastlake brackets. There are spindles between the pair of brackets supported by another turned spindle with a carved bracket below. The legs and breast are loaded with spoon carvings. It measures 53 inches wide by 47 inches tall and is 10 inches deep at the shelf. The opening is 29 wide by 35 inches tall. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. One foot was missing but we duplicated it in antique walnut. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TILE FIREPLACE SURROUND in Karlson
The sale is for this gorgeous antique tile surround that was made by New Jersey tile companies in the late 1800's. It is in very very good condition and is comprised of 16 six inch squares made up of 32 tiles. there is some residual mortar and one tile has a few abrasions. The grape and vine tiles(6" square) are pictured on page 45 of Karlson's book AMERICAN ART TILE(the bible of American tile collecting) They have a very heavily raised design with a negative concave of the design on the reverse. They are attributed to the Providential Tile Company. The corner tiles are each comprised of 5 tiles. The center tile design(4.25" square) is pictured on page 47 of Karlson's book attributed to the Old Bridge Tile Company. They are surrounded by Triangular tiles made by the Trent Tile Company. This auction is for a very unique Fireplace screen. Not meant for while fire going b/c this is made of wood and cloth. I can't tell if it's a painting or a print. But it's definitely late 1800's, early 1900's. Great curled feet w/swivel base so you can position screen as you like. Acorn finials at top. I believe the back of the feet are flat so that you can place it flush against the hearth or wall. There are some scratches to canvas surface and there are sections where the canvas is pulling away from the wood mount. Has 2" tear along bottom edge as seen in pic. Antique slate fireplace accent carved leaf design grey
This is a carved accent leaf from an old slate fireplace. It is in two pieces. With the bottom thickest part of the leaf lifting off to reveal a flat area. It is about 8 1/2 inches high, 5 1/2 inches wide, 1 1/2 inches high at the highest point(1 inch on the bigger bottom part before the top part is added) It weighs over 5 lbs. There is a bit of residue of a greenish paint which has been worn off. And ther is a bit of chipping at the narrowest part next to the tip of the leaf. Penn Antique Restoration. 48"x55" Antique Chestnut Eastlake Fireplace Mantel Charming. Antique, solid, chestnut fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel is embellished with finely-carved. Victorian style details such as chamfered edges around the opening; round bulls-eye style motifs carved on the ends of the crown/crest; small, lovely columns, which look like miniature, Eastlake style porch posts. Notice the wing-like piece underlying the shelf, like the eave on a Victorian home-what a wonderful accent! Along the back wall of the space in between the shelves, there is a series of 5 recessed(flat) panels. Restoration: At the point of salvage. Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. If you would like us to hand-carve and apply the missing pieces, email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great structural condition. There are some cosmetic blemishes. Which we opted not to repair in case you prefer a more distressed look. There are chips, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. The most obvious are shown in the"Close up" photos. The light scrapes and scratches will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting.
