Antique 18th Century Federal Pair Brass Urn Top Fireplace Andirons Wonderful pair of antique 18th Century Federal fireplace andirons. Made of brass that ... morehas beautiful old patina. The tops of the andirons are urn shape. The andirons are very heavy and sturdy(e ach andiron weighs 8.2 lbs. Each andiron is 19" tall and 8" wide. The total length is 19" from the front to the end of the cast iron shanks) Great condition. No damage or repair. The brass has some areas of green color oxidation what is expected for the brass of this age. I wiped andirons only with a wet cloth to clean from the soot before I put them on sale and didn't use brass cleaner in order to preserve the patina. If you have any questions or need more photos please don’t hesitate to email to me before buying. This item is from a smoke-free and pet-free home. I'll ship the same or next business day after payment is cleared with eBay. We'll pack these andirons professionally with great care to prevent any damage. Buy from us with confidence. We provide excellent service. Professional packaging and fast shipping, friendly customer service and always ready to answer all your questions if you’ll email to us. Early 19th Century Cast Iron Snow Bird Federal Eagle Architectural Antiques
Great authentic antique cast iron Snowbird or Snow Eagle. Circa late 1800' early 1900's. There are many styles and variations of these old architectural appointments and the Federal eagles were one of the most popular. Traditional example of artistic form following function. They were attached to the roofs to hold& keep layers of snow from sliding off. The snowbirds had mounting bars or straps that were usually placed about 24" from the roof edge. The'birds' then positioned side-by-side in a horizontal line. Their wings were designed to form a vertical barrier, holding the snow safely in place, allowing it to slowly melt. This Snowbird is an authentic architectural piece not a reproduction. It has a beautiful rustic bronze patina. It is without the mounting bar. This would make a wonderful accent piece or used as ... morea paperweight. The bird stands approximately 5" in height& its wingspan 6 1/4" in width. The base is 2 3/4" L. An Interesting Catalog- American Fancy. Exuberance in the Arts 1790-1840” By Sumter Priddy. Published by the Chipstone Foundation and the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2004. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Between 1790 and 1840. Millions of middle-class Americans throughout the nation encountered"Fancy" they rode in a Fancy sleigh, dressed up in Fancy clothes, blew their noses in Fancy handkerchiefs, bought goods at Fancy shops, ate at Fancy tables on Fancy dishes, and slept under Fancy coverlets. Not just fancy but Fancy: an early nineteenth-century cultural phenomenon born out of new and enlightened ways of seeing, understanding, and responding to the surrounding world. Fancy expressed itself in just about everything that pleased the senses; generally colorful and boldly patterned, it elicited delight, awe, surprise, ... morewhim, and caprice. Whether experienced in the form of painted surfaces, kaleidoscopic quilts, or imaginary landscapes, Fancy engaged the emotions and expanded the imagination, expressing the core of human fancy. American Fancy offers an appropriately fantastic experience of this uniquely American sensibility. Author Sumpter Priddy has assembled and produced an original oeuvre in the field of decorative arts, going beyond the traditional modes of furniture analysis, which concentrate on style, history, and construction, to consider the perceptual and emotional responses through which the original users and viewers would have interacted with these material things. To this end he employs the interpretive methods used in the fields of literature, fine arts, philosophy and even psychology. Rich, fully illustrated, wondrously researched, and bound in a cover that imitates a typical Fancy pattern, American Fancy does its marvelous subject true. DESCRIPTION and CONDITION NOTES: Hardcover. 9.5"x12.5" 267 pages, color and black& white illustrations. Minor wear. 1790-1840 American Federal Rococo & Fancy Furniture & Antiques -Chipstone Study
American Fancy. Exuberance in the Arts 1790-1840” By Sumter Priddy. Published by the Chipstone Foundation& the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2004. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Between 1790 and 1840. Millions of middle-class Americans throughout the nation encountered“Fancy” they rode in a Fancy sleigh, dressed up in Fancy clothes, blew their noses in Fancy handkerchiefs, bought goods at Fancy shops, ate at Fancy tables on Fancy dishes, and slept under Fancy coverlets. Not just fancy but Fancy: an early nineteenth-century cultural phenomenon born out of new and enlightened ways of seeing, understanding, and responding to the surrounding world. Fancy expressed itself in just about everything that pleased the senses; generally colorful and boldly patterned, it elicited delight, awe, surprise, whim, and caprice. Whether ... moreexperienced in the form of painted surfaces, kaleidoscopic quilts, or imaginary landscapes, Fancy engaged the emotions and expanded the imagination, expressing the core of human fancy. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9.5”x12.5” 267 pages, color and black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: There is a long. Warm gift inscription on the title page from the author. Minor wear.
