Fine old French violin Very old 18thc. French violin with label leopold renaudin 178- full size This violin shows typical characteristics of Renaudin's work especially the clumsy scroll. Rough quality of the f holes and the deep red varnish. The one piece back is also characteristic. It has a beautiful old patina showing many nicks and scratches from many years of use- but no open cracks. The violin does not require repairs and will be playable once sound post is in place and has set up with new bridge and strings. Here is an antique violin case covered in alligator skin& with a stitched leather handle. the case is complete but worn in places. opens& closes properly. The latches all work but there is no key. the bottom is stamped with the Bulls Head(MW) trademark of Maulbetsch& Whittemore. Makers of cases& satchels for musical instruments since the early 1900s.also, US Pat Off& MADE IN USA.see pics) the outer latches are marked CHEYNEY- England- the middle lock is stamped" M& W Co. the interior is lined in maroon velvet( but worn from use) The case measures 76cm long by 26cm wide.all the hinges& latches are sturdy,definitely worth restoring! Varnish a warm orange brown, Bow with mother of pearl, Coffin case, 1 latch is missing the eye& small chip on violin please see photos. A Brief History of the Suzuki Masakichi Suzuki was born in 1859 in Nagoya. Japan. At age 14 he had worked in a lacquer-ware shop and later began his studies to become an elementary school music teacher. His future changed when a fellow classmate expressed his desire for a violin. Suzuki immediately put his skills to work and spent a week making his first instrument. A few months later he officially decided that violin making ... morewould be his vocation. By 1888 he had hired several assistants to help in making instruments. Soon orders for violins came in one right after the other. A public retail location was opened in Tokyo in 1889 and by 1890 Suzuki began construction on a new violin factory. Ten years later a machine was invented to cut the round violin scrolls. Suzuki researched this machinery and patented his own specialty machines. Enabling the factory to begin mass production.
