Beautiful Hand Painted Antique Welsh Harp Zither The zither has been used. There is a crack to the wood around the front circular hole and a crack to the back as shown in the photographs. The paintwork has come away, scuffed and scratched in places and there is some surface rust to the metal string attachments. Still a beautiful old harp. Up for bid is a very unusual piece hard to find. This is a violin that I believe is played with the instrument across your lap or like a mandolin. This is from the Hawaiian Art Violin Company Jersey City. NJ on Ferry street. It has all the strings as far as I can tell and will play but definately needs a tune up. The labels inside the neck and body both read the same. They also feature cherubs and a nice design circling the openings. Odd antique fretted fiddle violin with 3 feet. Folk instrument? bowed zither?
I have come up with ziltch while trying to research this critter. Body is 14" about 22" overall. Fingerboard is about 9 3/4" to the"nut" fret. Has 3 bone feet with one a replacement. No sound post found. Has a tunnel under the fingerboard(sympathetic string pathway? Has some cracks on shoulders(pictures) No bridge there now. Seems straight forward to get back into service. Has zither type peg tuners. Has a metal tail piece. I mostly have it to get the dimentions measured so I can make a copy someday. Last shot at this item.

I have arrived at that date because in 1897 Menzenhauer and Schmidt w ent into business together and by 2000 the business was transferred to Oscar Schmidt in that 31-41 Ferry Street Jersey Street NJ location. By 1902 that address changed to 87-101 and the label clearly says the 31-41 address. The zither measures 19 inches in len gth at the longest point and 12 1/2 inches at the widest point 31 tuning pins I am not sure if the strings are original however they do look old. Top banner label says: Menzenhauer Guitar Zither Patented May 29 th 1894 Decal around the sound opening has a small mar on the left side. Vertical paper label over wood strip has edge wear Chord decal ... moreis intact Edges of instrument/veneer has wear Needs a good cleaning/tuning and possibly restoration Horizontal scratch on the back that is pictured and also a c rack on the back which is pi ctured. Instrument does not appear to have separation at glue areas which is common in antique instruments. I do see a faint crack on the fret board from age and that is pictured. Metal case is included. Case measures approx 2 0 3/4 inches by 13 19/16 inches. Has green tape residue which is pictured and wear/rusting. Included is an old tuning key and a autoharp song folio. I have a very cool antique zither autoharp made by Menzenhauer from around the turn of the century. Condition is always subjective but I think overall this is in very good condition for it's age and when comparing to other's found online. I would say this one is slightly better condition. All of these that I have seen will have cracks in the wood near the sound hole, this one has minimal cracking on the top/front and has a very minor crack along the bottom, but the cracking is far less severe that others I have seen, I have tried to illustrate this as best as possible in my pictures. The gold etching is in nice shape, all strings are in tact and overall this is a very nice piece. I will ship this fully insured to auction value. Antique COLUMBIA ZITHER SPECIAL MODEL 3 3/4- Manufactured by PHONOHARP CO. Early 1900's All original with original wooden box. Box does have locks and the key spot(no key) It is in a nice condition considering the age. Has some structural issues on the back. Which doesn't much affect the voice and is easy to repair. I will not touch or repair it, simply because someone at some point already tried to do that and as you can see in the pictures didn't do a nice job with it. However based on its overall condition I can tell that most of its life it was in right hands and if a right person buys it and makes the minor repair in the back or perhaps replaces the back than it will be one of the best ones you can have and be proud of. It has few missing string which are also not going to be installed for the same reason. Antique Vintage Marxophone - Autoharp/Mandolin/Guitar/Zither/Hammered-Dulcimer
You are bidding on an Antique Vintage Marxophone Mandolin/Guitar/Zither/Autoharp/Hammered-Dulcimer instrument. This particular Marxophone was originally produced by the International Music Corporation in Hoboken. NJ as indicated by the faded, but readable label inside of the soundhole. The instrument is in good shape considering its age. The finish is still nice. And all of the strings are intact(though some of them probably need a good tuning) All of the hammers are also intact and in working order. The wood underneath the strings does not appear to be warped at all, but there is a small crack in the wood the goes through the center of the soundhole(see picture) However, this crack does not appear to affect the playability of the instrument. The finish/stain on the bottom wood of the instrument is also in good shape, though there are some ... morecracks(see picture) The Marxophone sign and lettering look pretty good and you can clearly see the notes. Note letters, and numbers as well as PATENT NO. 1044553. The only issue with the sign is that the metal arm on the right side has become loose from the instrument somehow(see picture) but you would never know looking at it. A good part of the note graphics under the left-hand chord strings has faded(see picture) but both the American Eagle graphic in the upper left-hand corner and the graphic around the sound hole are in good condition. Other than that, it just needs a good cleaning and dusting. All-in-all. This is a really nice antique instrument that is still in playable shape!

This antique instrument is a little dried out and it has had some strings break and two were replaced. The strings still tighten up. But they would likely loosen up because of the bottom pins. The label and artwork are still in good condition, it is a good looker, but this is not the one to buy to learn how to play. We are buyers. Sellers and traders. Up for bids is this really cool old instrument known as a guitar zither made by the U.S. Guitar Zither Co. Oscar Schmidt manufacturer of guitar zither. A number 2 1/2 Menzenhauef its measrements are 19" long. 14" wide, and about 1 1/2" deep. All the strings and tuning pegs are still there but there are cracks on the back and one in the front. This auction is for the MANDOLIN you see here. I thought it was a dulcimer. But it says Mandolin Harp, as you can see by the paper in the center. Has patent dates of 1894, 1899 and 1900. In very nice condition, but it does appear to be missing 3 strings(picture#10) and there is a crack in one of the pieces of wood(picture#6) Not sure how complete it is, it comes exactly as you see it here. 19.5" long, 15-3/8" wide at the bottom. You will see in the last picture the number"5397" stamped into the wood on the back. Not sure what that number represents. I WILL SHIP INTERNATIONALLY. Carl Fischer Antique Guitar Zither Mandolin Musical Instrument
This is an antique musical instrument acquired at an estate sale. The label inside the body reads: Carl Fischer, No. 6 Fourth Avenue New York Manufacturer of the well known Reliable Guitar. Zither& Mandolin There is also a brass plate on the outside marked: D. R. M. Sch Triumpf Zither No. 55301 It comes in a velvet lined wood case and includes some extra items. I can't identify everything. But there are extra strings, 2 tuning forks, 2 plectrums, a tuning key and some other stuff. As you can see in the pictures. It is in fair condition and needs a little work, but could definitely be restored. The case has a crack in the lid and some of the hardware has come loose(the hardware is included inside, I think everything is there) A section of trim has come loose from the instrument. But is included. One of the legs on the back is also ... moredetached, but included, and the metal plate with the tuning pegs for the guitar has pulled partway loose. I don't know much about this. However inside the sound hole is a label that reads: Chord Harps' This autoharp is a stringed musical instrument with bars attached to dampers. When depressed these dampers mute all of the strings other than those that form the required chord. The autoharp is not from the harp family- it is a chorded zither. The zither/harp has 6 damper bars and 25 strings. T he 6 circular buttons to the damper bars are intact along with original labels to dampers and to the body of the harp. There are losses to the paint to the body and also to the transfer and there are minor nicks to the edges of the instrument. As seen in the photos. I think this old Zither was called a'Guitar Zither' Because the longest 16 strings(on the left side of the first photo) are tuned to 4 chords with 4 notes each. They are C,F,G7, and A Minor, enabling the player to accompany his or her melody(played on the remaining higher 15 strings with the right hand? with the proper Key of C chord(played with the left hand? The missing strings have been replaced with an appropriate guitar string, and could probably be retuned as designed(sorry; there's no tuning wrench with it) or as is, it will make a beautiful wall decoration as is done in Cracker Barrel Restaurants. I can't make out the manufacturer on the label inside, but it is their No. 2 Model, made in the USA. Up for sale today. I am offering an antique wooden Zither. This beautiful instrument has been through a lot in its lifetime. The wood is a bit warped, and it doesn't sit completely flat when on a flat surface. There is some cracks in the wood and it needs a couple of repairs. It also needs new strings. However, this is still a beautiful piece. There is a gorgeous gold and red border that goes around the whole instrument. Above the hole in the middle is an awesome Bald Eagle depiction sitting on top of a shield with the American flag on it. This is an Antique 1800's Austro Zither made by Anton Kiendl. In Wien It has all the strings. But 2 are very loose The whole instrument is very dusty, I did not want to clean it in order not to damage something. and to make it really beautiful, the strings have to come off. This antique Meinel and Herold mandolin guitar zither is in great antique condition and ready to play! Just dust it off and tune it up. String s are still almost in tune! It is 21 inches tall and 19 1/2 inches wide. The melody strings are all the notes from middle C to two octaves above middle C. This is a chromatic instrument and it can play all flats and sharps in its range. There are two strings for each melody note. Like a mandolin. These are played with a pick or finger pick using a back and forth motion with the right hand. The accompaniment chords C G F D A E each have up to 7 notes! These are played with the left hand. Old Antique 1894 Guitar Zither, Menzenauer's Stringed Musical Instrument, Rough
Here's an old or antique musical instrument we received recently with some estate items. This one had been stored away for many years. Probably a couple generations. It is a"Menzenauer's Guitar Zither" with a patent date of 1894. This instrument has a nice look overall from a wall decorative perspective but is rough and needs attention from a musical equipment perspective. The issues with this have to do with what happens when a stringed instrument is left with it's wires under tension for a long period of storage. The bottom of the top board has been virtually pulled up from the bottom board and frame to relieve the string tension. And the pressure has caused some buckling and splits to the back board as well. So somewhat of a project piece with a great old fashioned musical instrument look. The instrument has one broken ... morestring and also could use some light cleanup. We try to show all these details in our pictures. This is about 19 inches tall, 13.5 inches wide and about 2.5 inches thick. When the back and front are properly reglued or reset the instrument will be about 2 inches thick. Interesting and somewhat uncommon old musical instrument overall. That's about it. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this old or antique guitar zither low so enjoy the auction. We'll pack this carefully. Antique Vintage Ukelin Zither String Instrument W/ Made in Germany Bow
Offered for your consideration tonight is this Antique Ukelin string musical instrument complete with bow. I'm not sure if these came with bows or not. The bow is marked made in Germany. I believe the Ukelin is made of Fruitwood and the overall condition is good. There are no breaks or repairs. There is a little surface rust on the tuner keys and some on the 2 metal strips on each side. it measures 27 1/4" long and the bow measures 18" long. there is no reserve.

Up for bid is this amazing old zither or auto harp? Not sure which. But it is wonderful with a very decorative eagle decal. The instrument does have a significant crack, but I have been told it can be repaired by a professional. To me the very best part though is the amazing wooden case! It has amazing hinges and is very well built. I do not know if it was specially built or came this way when originally purchased, but really lovely piece. 20.5 inches x 13.5 inches.
