This is the set of reeds that was pulled from a pump organ that was never restored. I always hate parting out an old piece unless there is no other option. ... moreI have not visually inspected each reed but I do know that they are really dirty. I have not cleaned them as I won't risk damage to any of them. I will leave that task up to the buyer. This organ had a back and a front set of reeds. If I am not mistaken the rear set is graduated from top to bottom uniformly note by note. The front set is divided. In the base I think it is an octave above and the treble being standard pitch. This is what I have found on other pump organs. I can make no guarantees but they should work fine after cleaning. Thank you for looking at my auction.

Up for bid is a portion of an antique. Late 19th century French pump organ. It is about all that is left from the pump organ, except maybe the case, which ... morewas made almost entirely of Rosewood. This piece however consists of the solid brass reeds. Unlike an American set of reeds from an American made pump organ, these reeds are screwed in with tiny number 1 or 2 steel screws, at both ends. The screws show a bit of rusting, but will turn out or off quite easily to replace a reed if need be. There are approximately 275+ reeds included with this auction and they are still intact to a portion of the wood housing. Your bid buys what you see in the pictures(of the portion of pump organ only) and will not be further disassembled from it's existing size of 36" long x 17" wide x 4-5" high, for shipping purposes. It's weight is or will be somewhere around 30-35lbs after packing. If you are in need of a pump organ reed, perhaps a little different than what you are use to, here's your chance to own something a little different than usual. At least one reed, that I noticed is broken, as has been taped, I'm guessing so that it did not vibrate beyond control while the instrument was being played. Shipping and insurance. Due to weight alone can be as much as $45.00 due to your destination, however this price does not include Hawaii, Alaska and all international destinations, where I do ship to, however, costs tend to be a bit higher. If you live on the east coast or midwest, shipping costs will be less and costs will be refunded after item is shipped. Good luck and check out my other auctions!

this is a circa 1896 Mason and Hamlin reed organ, roll top model. The cabinet is decent. It has the finished back which is often missing. The back holds ... morethe original reed puller. The finished top is present as well. It never had an ornamation top crown. The vox humana needs work but does engage well. I have been putting several hours into cleaning the reeds and this organ only becomes more incredible as far as a musical instrument. The bellows hold air quite well and the organ itself has quite a great tone. There are fewer broken ivories as I have found many of the missing pieces under all the below keyboard dust and have been doing repair. This is sold as is. Pick up only.

Vintage 1871 Estey Reed Pump Cottage Organ Good Condition! Serial Number 33335
This is an antique pump/reed organ made by Estey Co. in Brattleboro VT. I have tried to figure out when this was made and have not been successful. It does have the number 5525 on the back if that means anything. I also do not know what kind of wood this is made of. But the wood itself is in excellent condition. And also has some pretty carvings, see the pictures below. The keys have yellowed over the years. This belonged to my great grandma and I hate to get rid of it but I do not have the room for it anymore. The only things I have done to this is replace the fabric on the pedals. Had new straps made for the pedals, but those have now come off and I have conditioned the wood many times over the years. It does work when the straps were in place but I am sure it needs to be tuned. Measurements are: 46" wide, 22" in depth and 38-1/2" ... moretall. Please review the pictures for a further idea of the condition. Pick up only on this item. Located in Greenville, MI. Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for taking the time to view my ad! Please note that I have added more pictures below* I had a couple of nice fellow ebayers help me figure out where to find the serial number. So I have added those pictures and the serial number is 33335. Posted with the Posted with
1973 AMERICAN REED ORGANS Antique Parlor Pump Organ History Repair Music 1ST ED.
Pedal power: Essential illustrated out-of-print reference on reed organs Robert F. Gellerman: The American Reed Organ: Its History. How It Works, How to Rebuild It. First edition. Vestal. New York: Vestal Press, 1973. Yellow cloth with pictorial jacket, 11.25 x 8.75 in. 173 pages, illustrated in black and white. Ex-library with some label remnants and spots of skinning to endpapers; a bit of wear to jacket; otherwise clean and very good. From the jacket: As an example of public taste in the Victorian days of the late 1880s. Nothing can quite match the typical reed organ of the period. By today's standards some would consider them ugly, yet they have a unique charm that is causing them to become more and more desired as collectors' items. This book is the first to bring together a history of these fascinating musical instruments. Mr. ... moreGellerman's technical expertise on the subject, combined with his love for the organs themselves, combine to make a remarkable volume that provides a significant contribution to musical literature. The chapters are as follows: History of the Reed Organ; Music for the Reed Organ; Collecting and Collections; Stops and Voices; Restoration; Wind Supply; and Tuning. Also included are a bibliography and appendices including a dictionary of stops. Reed organ directory, and materials for restoration. Long out of print and now uncommon; the least expensive used copy offered on Amazon is priced at $40.00. B. SHONINGER. PLAYING **WALNUT**PUMP/ Reed Organ c. 1880's
Here we have basically an unrestored Victorian pump organ used in the parlor where the family would gather around to sing and play the old time hymns and songs of the day! The organ does play without too hard pumping but since this is an unrestored one. Seller would suggest fixing the following plus a good inside cleaning as well and fixing things that need repairing along the way. The organ has a very sweet sound and you will like it even before doing the following repair suggestions. Organique-Antiques can do this work for you at a reasonable price. Contact David at 309-854-2561. Thank you! 1) 3 stops out of the 9 fixed. Seller has most of the pieces here(see photos) and if any are needed. Seller can furnish any parts needed for your restoration job. When completed you will have a very nice organ AND with the addition of one more very nice ... moreand rather rare feature, BELLS, you will have a very nice organ! 2) Walnut strip shown will need to be reattached to the top piece. 3) The right cubbyhole door is loose but hinges are there. Perhaps music or snacks were stored there? Methinks millady kept some schnapps for a quick sip to combat the"vapors" 4) If you can run into an original set of Shoninger bells and install them. Along with doing the other fixing, buyer will have a nice and scarce reed organ. The bell set of an octave or more can be found on eBay and they do come up for sale quite frequently but be prepared to pay some money for them. Searching on Google may lead to other sources where to buy a set of bells which seem to add value to these organs! Organique-antiques will be glad to answer any questions or call and leave a message at 309-854-2561and thanks for looking at other organs and items for sale at davosales! Seller davosales will try to add some history of this company from Gellerman's Reed Organ Atlas or online at the Reed Organ Society website which is very good as well as the atlas! George P. Bent Comp. Restored RARE Piano Cased REED/PUMP ORGAN. Original OAK!!
Here we have a wonderful restored piano-cased reed organ that one does not find in this excellent condition! Seller. Organique-antiques, a division of eBay DAVOSALES located in Altona, Illinois has restored this impressively sounding reed organ both inside and out so that looks and sounds like it would have been leaving the Chicago factory in the late 1890's or very early 1900's. One can determine a date of mnfr by checking the serial number inside and then going to the Reed Organ Society website. This organ has been taken completely apart and seller has the photos to show the large amount of work that was done on it over many months period! Some of the many things done which are too many to list on the iPhone but will be added later: Complete redoing of the extra large reservoir(bellows) which are MUCH larger than parlor organ ones. ... moreAlso done was total cleaning inside of dirt and debris that accumulates in old pianos and organs. New felt. Leather, bellows cloth, reservoir hinges, and more work done on the long keyboard which contains many more reeds from long bass reeds up to tiny treble reeds. All the reeds were each cleaned and checked to play properly. Many mechanical parts had to be taken apart, cleaned, and tested to be working properly including knee swell levers under the keyboard which increase the volume(and also add a set of reeds) when activated! Seller has pictures of the restoration process which he hopes to add to this listing by iPhone if possible. Otherwise you could submit your email and then I could send the pictures via iPhone to you. On piano-cased organs there are very few stops and here in this case. NONE! You control the sound with your knees AND your feet! Piano-cased organs were made to compete with upright pianos which were replacing the old-fashioned high-top parlor organs. As these piano style organs were soon replaced by the phonograph. All pump organs were increasingly going out of style. Music boxes also met the same fate as reed organs at least for the home music people. Ch

PELOUBET PELTON -Restored Walnut-PUMP/Reed Organ** Rare** Small Case 4 octaves!!
Here for your consideration is a very rare AND restored reed organ made in the 1880's by a famous reed organ company located years ago in New York. What is unusual about this little gem of an organ is the size! It is definitely a cutie said the antique dealer I bought it from in Illinois. Most likely it was recently refinished and restored inside and taken care of very well! It plays easily and has a knee"swell" to make it louder by pressing on the lever located under the keyboard with your right knee! Size of the organ is as follows: 36" wide by 18" deep by 37" high by the main case. With the gallery the organ is 45" high. Not even 4 feet! You will love this organ and the bright sound is very nice with all notes working. Pulling out the one stop(this is a rarity for a walnut organ of this period when most ... morehad 6 or more stops) increases the volume which can also be increased by using your knee lever with the porcelain knob facing that says"swell" Seller hopes to add some history of the company from Gellerman's Reed Organ Atlas and by going online to the Reed Organ Society website. Antique Jewett & Goodman Reed Melodeon/Pump Organ - 1860s Fully Restored
SALE! Just reduced to $999 from $1.300 Rare Antique Jewett& Goodman Reed Melodeon/Pump Organ- 1860s Made in Cleveland. Ohio Details about the Organ for sale: This organ was made by Jewett and Goodman. Based out of Cleveland, Ohio and was a model they carried in the 1860s. They were a well respected manufacture of an exquisite line of line of melodeon and reed organs and stopped production in the 1890s. This particular model is what is known as a walk-around model. A walk-around model had a fold-down top serving as a large console table when closed and the rear panel of the case is finished and designed to be seen as a finished piece of furniture. Almost all pump organs of the mid-to late- 19 th century were made from lesser grade wood on the back and were meant to be pushed up against a wall. This organ was built to be a centerpiece of ... morea formal music parlor or drawing room. This was a greatly prized showcase instrument as opposed to the more common manufactured by the likes of Estey. Morgan, Mason or Cornish. From the original manufacturer’s description the unusual case design was made of solid planks of rosewood(I had to verify that against some on line samples as more modern rosewood seems much darker with more black accents) The organ has four stop that add bass depth rank to the original register when all four stops are engaged. We performed a full restoration of the finish and repaired any dings you would expect a piece of furniture built in the 1860's to have run into over the years. The pumps and reeds have recently been restored by the previous owner and we performed a good deal of performance measures(fancy words for sitting down and playing) It is in tune and we only found that only one of the reeds in the upper register for the second stop does not resonate consistently. Full. Clean and smooth bellow action with no hiss or hiccups. The keyboard action is smooth and consistent for all keys with no keys sticking or hestation on depression. The keys are ivory and just a few have minor surface crac

RARE Early ORNATE Fancy Cased ESTEY PUMP/Reed Organ WALNUT 10 Stops. 5 Octaves
Here we have an very elaborate Estey Walnut Reed Organ made in Barttleboro. VT in the late 1870's or very early 1880"s at best. If there is a serial number in the back it should not be too hard to determine the age of this heavy, heavy carved reed organ. Reed organ companies during this era made such massive cases as evidenced by looking at the very unusual side handles of this organ! Seller has never seen such handles like this. Organ will need complete redoing of its innards. The case should be rather easy to buff and polish up as it is probably the original finish. Original finish on furniture is the modus operandi these days as the days of stripping every antique in site and putting on the wrong finish. Is OVER! Collectors of antiques now want original finish left on their prized possessions and this one should it become yours ... moreis NO exception! Seller has added stop names as follows: Sub Bass. Melodia, Viola, Violetta, Vox Humana Forte. Vox Jubilante, Flute, Diapason, Harmonic Please contact davosales should buyer want the organ completely restored inside. We can give you an estimate of this very difficult work and more so on such an older organ where leathers. Felts, bellows are way past their useful life. But when done, buyer will have an exceptional, rare, elaborate organ made when the founder, Jacob Estey was still alive and directing the factory as he indended to. That was not the case later on in the company history after the founder died in 1890(same year as Cesar Franck who all pipe organists know and seller played this 3rd organ choral for his graduation recital at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL in 1963. Seller has been an organist for over 60 years and has restored reed organs since high school. On Oct-25-12 at 22:21:04 PDT. Seller added the following information: Posted with

Antique 1800s Charles Austin Melodeon Foot Pump Reed Organ Concord New Hampshire. This listing is for an antique Charles Austin melodeon. Based on our research. It was built in the mid 1800s in Concord, New Hampshire. The piece is marked with Austin's name and appears to have"Concord, NH" marked below it. While we are not experts on this item, it appears ... moreto be complete. After watching some instructional videos on how to operate one of these instruments, we tried it out and were able to play a bit(please email for a video) The melodeon has scuffs and wear from age and use. The top has some"bubbling" and a few small peels in the veneer. There is a stress crack in each"leg" but it doesn't effect their function. KIMBALL**ANTIQUE Walnut Case*** Reed/ PUMP Organ 11 Stops Playing-Electrified!
This organ has an interesting story that ties it way back to the time that my father who started the business of restoring antique reed organs in the 1960's and from whom I learned how to do this work. It has been quite a journey since then. After he passed away in 1971. His son this seller took over the business and has worked on well over 100 organs since then in Morton, Illinois, Galesburg, Illinois and now located in Altona, Illinois. It was quite a shock when I discovered that my father had worked on this organ in 1969 as I had but all forgotten about the organ or who it was worked on for. Maybe that information will show up some day in the records. The Kimball organ here has quite an impressive heavy. Thick case. Seller has not seen one with so much heavy walnut. Try finding that in some electronic organ of any make! Kimball of ... moreChicago made many organs and pianos. The story goes that William Wallace Kimball(known as WW Kimball had a factory at the time of the Chicago Fire of 1871 and while trying to save his grand pianos which were the most valuable instruments, commence to wheel them out of the building during the encroaching fire. He lost the store and probably most of the pianos he was trying to save! WW, not being knocked down, proceeded to sell pianos/organs from his home that escaped the fire. He later rebuilt his factory. His mansion still stands and may be open to visitors. Seller has listed the stops: Principal. Diapason, Dulcet, Bass Coupler, Diapason Forte, Vox Humana, Flute Forte, Treble Coupler, Echo Horn, Melodia, Celeste Several organs are located in Galesburg which is only 15 miles from our antique shop in Altona. Illinois. Please call 309-854-2561 if you have any further questions. This is a nice sounding organ and one will only have to do some buffing and polishing to show off the fine black walnut case. It is really massive and beautiful. The organ sounds fine as well. It was motorized by my father and if could be put back to a pump organ by adding a functioning bellows. On Oct-25-12

Tewksbury & Carpenter. Antique Reed/ PUMP Organ -Restored & Playing! Celestial!
Here we have a lovingly restored Tewksbury& Carpenter of Mendota Illinois. Reed or pump organ from the 1870's era made of black walnut probably from lumber cut in the area. The organ has been in seller's possession since 1969 when bought in Peoria. Illinois and is one of the first organ obtained what turned out to be a long organ collecting and repairing odyssey. Organique-Antiques started out around 1956 by the seller's father and seller at Ludington. Michigan. The business was known as The Organique until seller took over the business after 1971. This organ was restore by an expert co-worker from Metamora who did everything that needed to be done. The walnut was already refinished when seller bought the organ. Things redone include new bellows cloth on the reservoir and exhausters. Complete redoing of leather, felt and necessary ... morewood/medal pieces that had been moth/mouse eaten and wood pieces that had gotten lost or broken. Everything inside was taken apart and cleaned to perfection. Original ivories were retained to keep in character with the antiqueness of the organ New pedal rug material was put on as well as new straps connecting the pumpers to the foot treadles. All the brass medal reeds were removed and cleaned with reed organ solutions and the reed cells were all cleaned and checked as well. Nothing was omitted in repair by the master craftsman and since the man is retired. No more organs will ever be repaired. Antique reed organ restorers are a dying breed and there are so few people to take up the cause! Unfortunately that is the case. It will be harder and harder to find repairmen to take on reed organ repair. The same applies to electronic organs. Posted with On Sep-12-12 at 11:59:36 PDT. Seller added the following information:

The old finish is very fine. An original beveled mirror has enough"smoke" to show its age. Original hand painted porcelain stops control the voices. A cover slides out over the keys. Behind the music desk is storage, right and left are shelves for oil lamps or candles. Pedals have old hand made needlepoint. Niles Bryant Wood Reed Pump Organ Piano Tuner Wood Block Sound Holes
Ok. All you piano and pipe organ tuners don’t beat us up too bad if this is titled incorrectly, what we have here, or what I believe we have here is an old piano/pump/reed organ tuner. This wood block measures 19 inches in length and is 4 inches tall. The depth at one end is 3 ¾ inches and it tapers to 2 ¾ inches. There are multiple holes in this tool( Each with a corresponding different note when blown through. The notes that each hole’s sound corresponds to is labeled on the front. This came in a box with a label from the Niles Bryant School of Piano Tuning and Techniques so I assume this is a tool or instrument to help one accomplish the tuning process. Overall looks good. No visible repair or breaks. I am a little suspect about the pair of holes in the center, above where it reads“tempered third” it looks to be original but ... moreI have no way of knowing for certain. Also included are a few parts that I found in the box this came in. Rare, to tell you the truth I don’t know, but certainly different.

1880's WALNUT SHONINGER **BELL** PUMP/Reed ORGAN PLAYS-Sweet Parlor Organ Sound!
Here we have the SECOND SHONINGER listed from the ORGANIQUE-ANTIQUES collection of 50 + reed/pump organs of which 30 are now for sale on eBay at: davosales The other Shoninger organ does not have the much sought after"BELLS" but this upgraded style does with the 15 stops which will be listed with some notes about them below. The organ does play with not too hard pumping but seller does not know how good the bellows are. At least we would recommend a good cleaning inside with the back easily removed. Since the organ does play. We have been able to listen to the sound of it thusly. The working bass and treble couplers do add much to a fuller sound as these mechanical stops do. We were not able to hear all the bells working at this time but the mechanism is ALL there with all the so-called dampers in place. Since it has been several ... moreyears since davosales has worked on a bell organ. More work will be needed to discover why some bells do not work. Seller has another bell organ where all the bells work but the organ itself does not play. We have only worked on 1 complete bell organ for a customer in Galesburg, IL. That organ turned out superbly and yours-truly played it at the owner's open house at Christmas some years ago after it was restored As to this organ here. ORGANIQUE-ANTIQUES can restore this organ for you at additional cost of course. Please contact David Nestander at 309-854-2561 and leave a message or try the land line at 309-484-2225. Thank you! Please note that the wooden piece at the top of the organ will need hinges so that it can function as a swell mechanism with the forte stop on the organ. It merely raises the lid up about an inch or less. The right knee lever which opens a swell lid on the treble side in front behind the wooden cover will need to be fixed. Our other Shoninger organ has the same problem but that lever is still with the organ. As for the bells. Further adjusting will be needed. Seller did get the CYMBELLA stop hooked up but the stop itself will need further adjusting.

Dyer Bros. St. Paul Eastlake 1890 Oak Pump or Reed Organ. Signed"Dyer Brothers of St. Paul. Minnesota, this solid oak 1890 era reed or pump organ still plays. The quarter sawn oak case has delicate"spoon" carving and a very fine old finish. Under the music desk is storage. A sliding cover goes over the keyboard. Curved galleries held lamps or candles for evening playing. The stop pulls for different voices were replaced long ago, so the name of each stop is a mystery. Notes play fairly well with different unknown voices and pumping the pedals is easy. Measurements of this historic musical instrument are 49" long including the handles. 24" deep and 54" tall. It employed more than 500 people and its high-quality items were sold as far away as Africa, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Around 500,000 to 520,000 reed organs, or'pump organs' as some term them, were built between 1846 and 1955. History In 1901. The company began manufacturing pipe organs, building over 3000. Vintage Prescott Bros. 1860's Rosewood Melodeon (Pump Reed Organ)-working bellow
You are bidding on a beautiful vintage melodeon manufactured by Prescott Brothers of Concord. New Hampshire. For those not familiar, melodeons are small pressure type reed organs which were built in the United States around 1840 mainly by builders in New England. This means that as a reeded instrument, the melodeon is a"woodwind" The melodeon is the forerunner of the more familiar pump organ reminiscent of an upright piano case, and was built from about the mid-1840s to the early 1870s. Many of the larger ones looked like the small and typical early horizontally arranged square pianos. Some were actually advertised to be in a piano style case. These are wind instruments with brass reeds to create the sound of an organ. One characteristic of this type of instrument is that it only has one pedal to power the bellows system. The other ... morepedal exists to control the dynamic sound volume. The Prescott name goes back as far as the 1830's in America's organ and melodeon building history. Originally founded by Abraham Prescott in Concord. New Hampshire, the firm started out building organs and melodeons as well as various different strings instruments. During the mid-19th Century, sons Abraham Jr. and George Prescott became part of the firm and instruments were built under the name of Prescott Brothers. This melodeon is from the 1860's. And has its original manufacturers label from Prescott Brothers. It has a solid rosewood case, and measures approximately 38"l x 21"w x 30"h. With 61 keys(36 white/ 25 black) it helps date this unit as a predecessor to the organ, and is a fine example similar to the two that are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston(http:www.mfa.org/collections/object/melodeon-548618) as well as the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA(http:www.museumofmakingmusic.org/organs) The fantastic news is that the bellows system appears to work. And it plays. As this is a 140+ year old instrument, it should be expected that bringing it to prime playing shape most likely

Size of the organ is: 82" high x 43" wide x 21" deep. This is one of the most ornate organs seller has ever had and since we have been restoring organs since 1956. There is much truth in that statement! Seller DAVOSALES just had recent inquiry about shipping organ to China! That makes seller realize that this organ with its mahogany toned walnut case would be a perfect complement to oriental furniture decor particularly with Chinese furniture. The organ was made right after the oriental fad in the 1880's that swept America. This organ has those curious motifs especially the curled design elements at the top crown. The panels in ... morethe top, the kidney shape of the mirror and other places. This is the only organ seller has seen with this many Chinese features in one organ. It is really a beauty with the special finish on the case in such excellent condition. A one-of-a-kind rarity indeed!
