I have played it, but do not need 10 violins these days. I think it could use a proper setup and some restoration, having been in dry Colorado.Nice wood grain throughout. Ebony,mother of pearl inlay. carved rams head instead of usual scroll. No guarantees as to who made it or where, but its a great old violin. I paid more than starting price and brought from Europe. An interesting violin. Around 200 years old, maybe older. typical yellow varnish and slant sound holes of italian school. Local luthier says the rib are build on external mold. Probably French origin. The length is around 358mm. The neck seems original without graft work; the height of finger board is raised by a wood piece underneath. it has stable repairs on top. In immediate usable condition once strings and sound post is configured.

Guarneri Italian Violin
Beautiful Guarneri violin from the 1800's. Case and bow included but have no value. The bow was repaired at one point and case will be used for shipping but needs repair. The violin is in excellent condition. It features Italian varnish with a very well used patina. I was told it may just be an Italian made violin but have no label inside. The neck angle is perfect. There are no cracks anywhere, the violin is very solid. Sound post is inside. I'm sure this violin once setup can sound like a million dollars. Starting price set very low! This is a beautiful old Full size Maggini violin.Labeled as"Copy Of Giovan Paulo Maggini. Made In Germany" There is also wrinting in pencil above the label that states" Repaired by Lee& Annie 7-10-1996 I do not know the exact age but it is quite old. The violin exibits a nice burnt orange varnish over an amber ground with Chetsnut highlights.the top and bottom plates have wonderful arching.The top plate has several well repaired hairline cracks, which can be seen in the pictures.all are stable and nonmoving. the the double purfling is expertly laid in and the f-holes are well done.the back plate has no cracks or damage.it is a highly flamed 2 piece with lots of playing wear to the varnish.the sides,neck and pegbox are highly flamed as well.the violin has a great look and a nice patina that I believe is legit play wear. ... morethe neck is strong and graceful, the angl is very comfortable, making playing a breeze.The scroll is deep cut and pleasing to the eye.the pegbox appears to be grafted, there is an old repair where the scroll has broken at the d string peg hole, but it is very tight and stable. the ebony pegs are well fit and do not slip nor freeze.the fingerboard shows no signs of string grooves and is nicely scooped.the bridge looks to be newer and fits well.the string height has a slightly lower action for faster response and ease of play. the strings are older but still have some life left in them.If you are looking for wondeful old violin with the rich sound that only be earned with maturity, and you do not want the repair problems that some times comes with older violins, this one is for you.while she has had some repairs in her lifetime she is ready to be played right out of the case! It looks perfect. As can be seen in the pictures the wood condition is perfect, except(naturally) for some age marks. Excellent selection of wood and it was probably made by a master luthier. The design is that of italian masters. Label says Bernadus Calcannus Fecit Genoa Anno 1782Varnish is shiny and there are no scratches nor any other damages except for some age marks. No line cracks. This is a 4/4 size violin. Strings are new, bridge is new. Pegs are probably the original. This violin will be suitable for a collector of old violins or professional player. Old 4/4 Austrian Violin Labeled Rich. Kruttner Copy Of Italian Maker!
An old 4/4 size Austrian violin. There are two labels. One reads"RICH. KRUTTNER fecit Pilson. 1899" The other reads"Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonenfis Facibat Anno 1725" Both these labels could be original in my opinion. It was common at the time for makers to sometimes put in two labels(their label and also a facsimile label of the maker of the pattern they used) I could not find much information about Kruttner other than that he was born in Germany and was trained as a violin maker in Austria. Also that some of his instruments were imported to the United States. The shop that worked on the violin said that the instrument could be from Kruttners shop but anyway they were sure that it is from a maker that was schooled in Austria. Overall length of the violin is about 23 1/4" Corpus 13 15/16" Upper bout 6 9/16" ... moreMiddle bout 4 3/8" Lower bout 8 1/8" Stop 5 1\8. The table is made of two pieces of excellent quality fine to medium grain spruce. Two piece maple back. Ribs, neck and scroll of some flame. The original orange brown varnish is beautiful. The upper part of the soundbox has a more squared off shape than most Strad models and the purfling is very fine and inlaid close to the edges as is common with makers that were trained in Austria. In my opinion the tone seems very sweet and mellow. It is not the loudest violin that I have ever played but the sound is pleasant under the ear. An old 4/4 size German violin made on an Amati pattern in the late 19th or early 20th century. The original label reads"Nicolaus Amatus Cremonen Hieronymi Filiae Antonij Nepos Fecit 1677" The last two numbers of the date are handwritten. Overall length of the violin is about 23 1/4" Corpus 14 1/16" Upper bout 6 5/8" Middle bout 4 1/2" Lower bout 8 3/16" Stop 5 1/4. The table is made of two pieces of good quality fine grain spruce. Flamed two piece maple back. Ribs, neck and scroll. Original reddish varnish on a yellow ground. The instrument has survived in quite good condition with only miner signs of use. I don't see any cracks or any evidence of repairs. To me the tone seems even and not to bright or dark. Fiddly kind of tone. Light brown, and dark brown varnish. Most of the antique marks are from natural wear and tear. This violin's brilliance is attributed to a nice French polish which accents it's characteristics beautifully. The s tyle of this violin is copied from famous Italian maker Antonius Stradivarius. And is labelled as" Antonius Stradivarius- faciebat anno 1721. The back and sides are a variety of maple that is very pretty; nicely flamed. Top is solid spruce and has nice antique wear. This violin is in excellent shape and has no cracks. This violin is fully lined and blocked. The fingerboard has a few markings from where it appears to have been ... moreshaped to give it a proper scoop; none of which should affect playability. Beautiful Italian old school copy violin circa 1930. Full size 4/4. Maker is unknown though it probably originates from Markneukirchen. This violin projects a luminous& very sonorous sound. Yet sensitive to the bowing. Best used for solo playing or even Irish fiddle. Equipped and set up with an aged bridge. Medium Dominant strings, a comfortable flesch boxwood chinrest and tailpiece and ebony tuning pegs. The scroll is magnificent for a violin of this class and has a nice flame to it. The pegbox and violin itself have no cracks. Repairs or any mechanical issues whatsoever other than the tuning pegs being a little stiff( which is how I like them) The neck has a gorgeous flame to it and it is very comfortable. The back is a beautiful 2 piece flamed maple with a few minor(hard to see) scratches and the top is a nice medium grain spruce with ... moreodd scratches and a few blemishes on it and a tiny scratch under the tailpiece. I have no idea how the scratches got there but once I played it it didn't matter. The volumous sweet tone of the violin had me. The ribs are a beautiful dark honey flame. I?m a violin instructor who has been playing for over twenty-five years. This lovely violin is one that I?ve used for almost all my performances and lessons. The only reason I?m selling it now is due to the fact that I?m buying an extremely expensive one and this would clearly help me some. All the previous violins I?ve sold have been from my own collection. This has been by far my favorite violin. This is exactly what the label inside reads as you see in the pictures: Enricus Ceruti fecit Cremone anno 1867 E.F.C. The year(67) was written by hand. As you see in my pictures there is a maker stamped above the label which reads 1867(maker initial stamp which is a circle) E.F.C and there is also the same stamp inside the violin on the top plate which is located right under the fingerboard. The violin is has been restored to a GREAT playable condition and produces great full tone music. Violin Condition: It?s a great 4/4 full size Italian label violin. The pattern reminds me of a tortoise shell or very soft ripples in a pond. The varnish is beautiful and shows off the grain of the wood that is gorgeous. Depending on the lighting and the angle the specchiatura shows blonds. Slight deep reds, browns and very dark browns. Because of the density of the burled maple the tone is very resonant and dark. Rich with harmonics and overtones. The G is loud and powerful, very clarinet like and agile, it is very responsive and allows for a clear and beautiful tone all the way up the string. It has stumped my luthier here in NYC. He thinks the scroll could very well be from the early 1600's or late 1500's. It will need to be set-up to your liking. But it already has the old, haunting sound of an authentic Italian instrument.The neck will take some getting used to, but I believe the dark brilliant sound is due to the highly accentuated F-holes(maybe re-worked) This will either suit a professional soloist. Or a collector.but due to its age and being fragile, it could even be museum-worthy. There is no reserve. But I do have a'buy it now' price in mind since finances are ... moretough right now; as they are for most folks right now: So. I welcome all reasonable offers. In addition to being completely rebuilt and slightly augmented in 1987(per the hand-written label) The neck has been grafted, pegs bushed, and the back of the instrument may be slightly younger than the table and ribs. It measures: 588 x 355 x 161 x 106 x 188 mm. There are no visable past REPAIRS. Or Present Issues with this violin. I looked to check things inside. And all is fine: All the linings are in place; all corner blocks are there; the bass bar is firmly attached and the sound post is in place. There are some minor dings. Scratches, and scuffin all over, and some varnish ware and unevenness. THIS VIOLIN IS CLEARLY SHOWN IN DETAIL ON THE PICTURES- NO SURPRISES. Violin is setup. And it is in playing condition.
