Probably French origin. The length is around 358mm. The neck seems original without graft work; the height of finger board is raised by a wood piece underneath. it has stable repairs on top. In immediate usable condition once strings and sound post is configured.

This is a beautiful old Full size Maggini violin.Labeled as"Copy Of Giovan Paulo Maggini. Made In Germany" There is also wrinting in pencil above the label that states" Repaired by Lee& Annie 7-10-1996 I do not know the exact age but it is quite old. The violin exibits a nice burnt orange varnish over an amber ground with Chetsnut highlights.the top and bottom plates have wonderful arching.The top plate has several well repaired hairline cracks, which can be seen in the pictures.all are stable and nonmoving. the the double purfling is expertly laid in and the f-holes are well done.the back plate has no cracks or damage.it is a highly flamed 2 piece with lots of playing wear to the varnish.the sides,neck and pegbox are highly flamed as well.the violin has a great look and a nice patina that I believe is legit play wear. ... morethe neck is strong and graceful, the angl is very comfortable, making playing a breeze.The scroll is deep cut and pleasing to the eye.the pegbox appears to be grafted, there is an old repair where the scroll has broken at the d string peg hole, but it is very tight and stable. the ebony pegs are well fit and do not slip nor freeze.the fingerboard shows no signs of string grooves and is nicely scooped.the bridge looks to be newer and fits well.the string height has a slightly lower action for faster response and ease of play. the strings are older but still have some life left in them.If you are looking for wondeful old violin with the rich sound that only be earned with maturity, and you do not want the repair problems that some times comes with older violins, this one is for you.while she has had some repairs in her lifetime she is ready to be played right out of the case! It looks perfect. As can be seen in the pictures the wood condition is perfect, except(naturally) for some age marks. Excellent selection of wood and it was probably made by a master luthier. The design is that of italian masters. Label says Bernadus Calcannus Fecit Genoa Anno 1782Varnish is shiny and there are no scratches nor any other damages except for some age marks. No line cracks. This is a 4/4 size violin. Strings are new, bridge is new. Pegs are probably the original. This violin will be suitable for a collector of old violins or professional player. Apparently no repairs were ever made, nor necessary. A great violin! Beautiful brownish varnish similar ... moreto Italian tradition! The varnish is exceptionally gorgeous with lots of reds and golds accentuating the incredible quilted one piece back. There are two pegs at the purfling on the back near the ebony crown and the bottom. The quilting in the back is beautiful and some of the highest flaming I've seen. The top is made of fine straight grained spruce with varnish that matches the back. The ribs are made of highly flamed maple and the neck and scroll are of medium to low flamed maple. The set up is with boxwood fittings with ebony trim and the bridge has been cut to a professional violinist's standards. It does include a chin rest. Antique 18th Century Italian Violin with Grafted Neck
This violin was examined by long established Chicago violin dealer/maker Fritz Reuter who determined that it is of mid 18th century Italian make but couldn't tell who the maker was. Another violin dealer wanter go put it in his shop on consignment for 2600 but I'd rather offer it on ebay. The violin is in very good condition and set up ready to play although you may want to change the strings. You can see at the button that the neck was reset some time ago. The top is of spruce with fairly even grain. The back is two piece maple with the grains descending slightly from the center with matching ribs. The neck is maple with nicely carved scroll and has been grafted. The back measures 36,0 cm, upper bout is 16,6 cm, middle is 11,0 cm and lower bout is 20,2 cm. Comes with an old wood viola case. I purchased this violin last year from an elderly man in town who used to play in the Austin(TX) Symphony. The violin seems to be in outstanding condition. With no clearly-visible cracks or open seams. It is a fantastic violin with an exceptionally sweet tone, and it projects well. I used it last year in multiple recitals, one televised locally. It was never my primary violin, but is one of my favorites. I showed it to the owner of a small violin shop and he said all the scratches and wear are artificial, it's antiqued. There is a label inside that has been ... morepartially removed(see photo) What remains is illegible to me. The shop owner did point out two repairs to the wings of the F holes. Identical on each side in mirror image. He said some old-time fiddles used to think they could make the violins louder by cutting into the wings, and thought this might have been a repair of that type of damage. I don't know anything more, but the holes have been restored to the original shape, it's hard to see in the photos) He also said the neck graft was part of the antiquing and that they never made a graft curve like what you can see in the photo. As for the sound, this violin compares with instruments I have played in the $10,000+ range, and if you are looking for a'player' at good price, I think this is an incredible opportunity. As for location of origin, I would assume that if the label had said it was from Italy, no one would have tried to remove it. Assume it's German. Matthius Albanus Italian Tyrolean Violin 1706. Vintage Antique. Own History!
I have owned this violin for over 20 years. In addition to several repair lab els and notations. It possesses a label which state"From the Dr. S.O. Hayes Collection. Beckville, Texas 1900 $300.00" It has quite a number of repaired cracks, and at some time was re-necked to include a high quality flamed neck and scroll, which o f course does not match its more simple body. A friend of mine who was my luthier. Before she passed away, felt that this was a very well loved instrument, and considered very special, and that the owner wanted it to have the best neck and scroll. Some luthiers today would rather see the original scro ll grafted to a new neck. But this not the case with this instrument. The sound is sweet. As are most Italian violins, and the body is of course slightly smaller tha n today's full sized modern violin. Again, ... morea common feature. I am not a violin expert, but have collected them for many years, and this is a great one for someone who will take it with its imperfections. I will give a seven day inspection. So that you may have your luthier examine it, and adjust it to your tastes. The instrument must be returned in same(or better) condition. I am pleased to offer this interesting antique FULL SIZE Italian incribed violin. The inscription inside reads: Fatto da B. Vene La Spezia Italia This violin bears an unusual penciled drawing on the back of two street scenes and a gremlin figure in the center(See photos) There is an old repair on the lower rib that ap pears to b e grafted. There is also a small piece(about 2 inches) of inlaid purfling missing on the top opposite to where the chinrest would go. It has small repaired cracks on th e front a nd back. All tight and stable. Texture is somewhat on the crude side. End pin is not deadset on the center making the tailpiece lean a little more to the left. Nevertheless. This antique violin i think dates to around 1900 but possibly older. The violin is made of nicely figured wood and has a nicely carved scroll although there are a couple of filler repairs as seen in the photos, the body of the instrument is in good condition no splits or chips but does need re-stringing and two of the wooden keys are missing, inside there is a label that says Medio-Fino so suspect the violin may be italian in origins but not certain, the back measures 14 inches long and 23 inches long in total, just a little work and will be ready to play

If there are any other measurements I can give you, don’t hesitate to ask. As you look at the close-up photographs, you will see several old repaired hairlines to the top. Hi All, This violin is very old and certainly the work of a master maker. Old world woods. High attention to detail and old world repairs including a carved in sound post patch and elegant scroll. The top was correctly re-varnished many years and ago. It has a chipped corner. But they are very detailed. It measures 23.5" long and just over 14" on the back. The violin has new Evah Pirazzi strings and plays and sounds great with a very sweet tone and soul. It retains it's old willow corners inside. This is a fantastic violin. Two violin experts have seen the violin and both believe it was made in Italy long ago. I did not want to sell it back then. But it needs a new home. The violin has no label. Antique violin unlabeled ca. 1800. There is only a label of the store that sold the violin: E. Riley 27 Chatham St. New York. I found that E. Riley was in business from 1812-1830 at that address and sold music and musical instruments. So, this violin has to be from the very early 1800's. For its age it is in good condition with repaired cracks in the top and the heel of the neck. Repairs were ond by Fritz Reuter of Chicago a long established luthier and violin dealer. PANORMO fecit Anno 17(55) This is a fantastic early. Antique 4/4 violin ready to go with brand new Dominant strings and a newer bridge with beautiful Italian sound. The back is made of one piece of very attractive maple with faint flames and is in excellent condition and has no repairs and no cracks that I could see. The ribs are made of matching wood. There is minor trace of wood worm at the right middle bout and a repair at the right lower bout(see the picture) The top is made of 2 pieces of spruce with even medium grains and has some old repairs as expected for a violin of this age.
