Antique Rosewood Fretwork for Chickering Square Baby Grand Piano
It is a piece of fretwork from an antique piano. It looks like it held the sheet music on a Chickering square baby grand piano. The dimensions are 33 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" tall x 3/8" thick. It is made of laminate Rosewood. It has chips.Scratches and some pieces missing but is overall in very good condition and presents well. It has a slight warp. A beautiful ornate piece of fretwork that could be displayed as it is or used on a piano.

hallet, davis & co. square grand piano
This piano is a square grand made by Hallet. Davis and co. in Boston sometime around the turn of the century. The legs have been removed by someone who thought they were pickers. I have no knowledge of pianos so I really cant tell what the real condition is other that it looks like it would be a beautiful piece if it had legs. As far as the ability to play, I have no idea, I tried to take alot of pictures to show its condition. Its really too bad the legs are gone as it would be really cool. If no one shows interest in it I will be taking it apart to get rid of it. So if you are not interested in the whole piano please ask about parts from it. I also have an upright piano in the same building that is listed on ebay. Both need to go! please ask questions before bidding!

The serial# for the C hickering being auctioned is#51282 T his Chickering Square Grand Piano is in need of exterior wood refinishing. Damage is mainly to the top of the piano. T here is water dam age. The veneer top of the piano has split in two. The integrity of the piano itself is solid. The legs and front are in very good shape. All th e ori g ina l wood is still present. All original keys. Wi res. Pedals are in tact and in good, wor king condition. At least 2 pads need to be replaced. J&C Fischer Square Grand Piano 1845
J&C Fischer Square Grand Piano. Serial number 2501. First or second in production for the year of 1845. Piano is in reasonably good shape. A little dusty. The sound board has pressure cracks around the tuning pins which would keep the piano from holding proper tune. The keys are complete and in good shape. The value in this piano is mainly as a historical show piece. All the keys play except for the first and last one. Some of the hammers stick a little bit. The Fischer brother's took over from Nunn in 1840 and started their J&C name with around#2200. 2500 was the first production number for 1845. I will be glad to e-mail additional pictures. Antique 1880 6 1/2 Foot Steinway & Sons Square Grand Piano
I called Steinway& Sons and I was told this piano was sold in 1880. I have had this piano for 14 years. I sort of inherited and thought one of my children would make use of it. However they all opted for other instruments(go figure) I am fairly ignorant when it comes to piano's so I brought in an expert. It has made a great piece of furniture in my Victorian home but it is time for a change. Also it should be with someone that can apreciate it more than I can. There are 85 keys and none are chipped. The soundboard was checked out and there are no cracks. There are a couple of keys that were sticking and I had the piano expert look further into it. It was quite amazing for me to watch a craftsman at work. He told me this piano had been restored and had new hammers and more. And they look like new. This is a quality piano. There is wear in the wood from age and a flower vase through the years. Restored 1860's Chickering & Sons Square Grand Piano
This a Chickering& Sons Square Grand piano that was restored in 1994. It is a beautiful instrument that has working soft and sustain pedals. And plays very well for its age. Although the exact date of the piano is unknown, within the action is a serial number, 5165, written with a quill pen with the name"Gurney. It's hard to track old numbers and dates, but the piano may be from the 1860's or 1870's, as it's close to the Lincoln Chickering piano, which was 5070. This piano should be tuned to 25 to 30 cent flat of A440. When these pianos were built. Concert pitch was A435, not A440 which it is today. To pull it to A440 would put more stress on the plate than it was designed for. Emerson Piano Company(Boston) Square grand piano. S/N 26744, built in 1878. It's 38" tall(closed) 38" deep, and 78" wide. Made of Brazilian Rosewood. In the Rococo Victorian style. This piano is in good near-original condition. A couple hammers/felt have been replaced. And the high-C sticks a bit- it was working, think it's just a bit tight on movement(it was one of the replaced hammers) The stool in the picture is also included, though I don't believe it is a matching stool. We have restored several Woodward& Brown and they are some of the most well made square pianos we see come through our shop. If you can tell us the serial number inside the piano. We can verify the year it was built. The Piano shop. The Woodward& Brown Piano Company was established in Boston in 1843 by Isaac Woodward& Brown. Their first factory was located at 293 Washington Street. But due to their great success they continued to expand and moved to 387 Washington Street in 1860. In 1885, the firm moved again to larger factories at 175 Washington then yet again in 1895 to 200 Tremont Street. The firm was known for building extremely high quality square grand pianos during the 19th Century, with a handful of upright models also available in the 1870's. Woodward& Brown was known for building extremely high quality, expensive ... morepianos, and they were well respected in the industry. There is no mention of the firm after the turn-of-the-century, indicating that they went out of business before 1900. Here is some info on this piano built in 1865 serial number is. 16813. I can play this piano and there is one key that doesn't work. It is out of tune and would take some work to restore to new condition but it appears all is well construction wise. Pedals and strings and ivories in place. Perhaps this would be great as a piece of Civil War history. The wood work on the legs. Music holder and the underneath part alone are amazing. The finish on the sides and top could use staining. In any case, pick this up for your home before the end of February. Low bid start.

This piano is made of Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Empire Revival style. Brazilian Rosewood is now endangered and nearly impossible to get which makes it very desirable as a result. The piano is in rough original condition. But it is definitely restorable. Because this piano is a Chickering& Mackay rather than just“Chickering” makes it much more valuable and interesting from a historical and collectible point of view. AGE: Pianos built under the Chickering& Mackay name were produced only from 1830– 1840. Based on the way this piano is built and the way the stringing scale is designed. It is estimated to be closer to 1840 than 1830 because it is a bit more evolved in design than the pianos of the 1830 era. CHICKERING& MACKAY PIANO COMPANY HISTORY: Chickering& Sons(not to be confused with Chickering Brothers) was the first ... moreactual piano factory in America. Established in Boston in 1823 by Jonas Chickering with partner James Stewart. RARE. Marked"JOE KULICEK CHICAGO" Pin Setter Piano Tool This is a piano tuning Pin Setter tool. It has an opening to fit a tuning pin but it is for driving a pin into the pin block that has come loose. The nickel finish is stunning. The head is a square point socket. The tool measures 4" long and 2 1/2" long for the head. This is a timeless collectable. That should not look much different in another hundred years. Nickel is prone to failure by it's nature, but this has remained shiny and tight with very little loss of plating. See Pic! No gouges. Still pretty shiny. This is a very nice piano. I bought it from a friend in need of money. The story that was given to me was that it belonged to his great grandmother and stayed in the family all these years. I do have a letter dated 1877 where they were looking for the stool for it. All the keys work has a little bubbling on the right side from where they had it sitting in a window of bright sunlight. When I bought it, I had it moved by a professional piano mover and it has sit eversince and that has been 7-10 years. You will have to have it moved. For sale locally only.

I am selling this beautiful antique square parlor grand piano forte that is in great condition and plays perfectly. I just had it adjusted and tuned a week ago. After moving to a new home. I hate to have to sell it, but it is too large for my new home. It was made in 1869 by T. Gilbert Piano company(was verified by my piano specialist) serial no. 7724. It has a restored cabinet, new strings and hammers, so it is both a beautiful piece of furniture, as well as functional. All the rounded keys are in perfect condition. The heavy legs unscrew for moving purposes. It also includes a bench. It was the piano of choice for President Andrew Jackson. The price is somewhat negotiable.within that range. The only flaws are that there is a small piece of veneer missing above the right. Front leg, but has been stained to match(picture shown) there is a ... moresmall crack in the veneer in the right, rear leg that points under the piano and isn't visible(picture shown) and some molding on the back, left side has been lost, but stained to match and barely noticeable since it is near the back of the piano(picture shown) Dimensions are 75" L, 37.5" W, 39" H. This auction is for a very nice antique vintage c.1920s-30s sherbet orange silk piano shawl with hand-knotted fringe. Great to drape over a piano or table. Throw across a sofa, hang across a window, or fold in half& wear around the shoulders or waist as shown. The solid silk body(not including fringe) measures about 38& 1/2" square, with rounded corners. The fine silk fringe adds another 19& 1/2" to each side, 58" square total. The fringe has a 3& 1/2"L fishnet lattice top as shown, strands are 16"L. I'd grade this lovely shawl as very good to excellent.I really can't find anything wrong with it. I found no holes when holding up to the light. No stains, etc. MAYBE a TINY super-light speck ... morewas about all) the fringe is pretty much tangle-free. The shawl was found packed in a trunk so is a bit wrinkled. I also always recommend having antique linens cleaned before using. This shawl is really quite nice, the actual color is just like that of orange sherbet. Clementi. Collard& Collard square fortepiano This very rare. Approximately two hundred year old square parlor piano was manufactured in London by CLEMENTI, COLLARD& COLLARD and predates 1815, when composer Muzio Clementi retired from actively promoting and working with the Collards, however; after this time his name no longer appeared on pianos produced after this date. The piano inner construction is attributed to"W. Moutrie" and stamped No. 1048. The piano has a six octave range, original keys, adjustable acoustics, an exquisite fallboard, and it rests on robust turned legs and is raised on tapered feet with a bronze ring detail. Its condition is commensurate with its age; it minor chips to keys, and a functional restoration is recommended. Dimensions: 32½ x 71 x 27½ inches.

Rare, Brazilian Rosewood mid-1800's Victorian Square Grand Piano - JP Hale & Co.
Rare opportunity to own a beautiful and historic antique instrument in outstanding condition. This JP Hale& Co. beauty. Circa approx. 1880, has a gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood cabinet and has been handed down as a family heirloom. My mother acquired it over 50 years ago and had it restored, including restringing, felting, tuning, etc, at that time. The finish appears to have perhaps been restored prior to her acquisition and is beautiful in both color and condition and has been maintained with only hand rubbing since, It was played regularly in her home and handed down 10 years ago. Since then, the felts have been replaced and it has been tuned again and is in excellent working condition. Two ivory keys stick slightly, but we simply have not taken the time to have the tuner out to correct this since no one in the family plays any more. ... moreThe finish on all keys is in nearly perfect condition with few scratches or marks, and no chipped or marred edges. There is slight bubbling of the wood finish in one small spot on the top cover, of approx. 1 1/2 in. by 1/2 in. visible only when the top is closed and a slightly visible water stain near the very rear edge. Some wear and tear appear at the base of the feet from vacuuming around, and one small piece of trim(approx. 2 in. missing from cabinet just above rear leg. This is a wonderful instrument that has been lovingly maintained inside only a climate controlled home environment, never warehoused or allowed to deteriorate. It is highly unusual to find an instrument of this age that is in this kind of outstanding condition. This is a very rare and precious early keyboard instrument of museum quality. The nameboard cartouche inscription reads: Gabriel Buntebart et Sievers Londini Fecerunt 1791/ Princess Street/ Hanover Square" Gabriel Buntebart was one of the very first piano makers in England. Square Piano Forte 1792 Pra Grenoble European French harpsichord clavichord era
1792 Pra á Grenoble Square Pianoforte Pra á Grenoble: A 1792 five octave pianoforte built in Grenoble at the height of the French Revolution. This unusual pianoforte incorporates features with both English and Germanic elements. Similar to some Swiss Pianofortes of the period. Very similar to the standard Zumpe-style English squares in basic form, this instrument diverges in having three unique circular knee stops rather than hand stops or knee levers for bass sustain, full sustain and buff stop. It also retains the reverse keyboard arrangement of ebony-topped naturals and i-y-topped accidentals seen in the earliest Zumpes and also still present in the German, Swiss and Viennese fortepianos during the late Eighteenth Century. A somewhat similar 1791 Christian Gottlob Hubert fi ve octave square pianoforte with reverse keyboard recently ... moresold at auction for almost $14.000. This pianoforte also has some similarity(in leg style, compass, keyboard etc. to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's five octave square fortepiano(unsigned) with reverse keyboard that was lost or destroyed during WW II(see Hirt, p. 36) Mozart was also known to have used other fortepianos with knee controls, which he probably used very sparingly, based upon his precise style of musical notation. Another unusual feature of this pianoforte is the lay-out and dual composition of the action. Although the piano has a FF- f 3. 61 note keyboard compass, it contains a Zumpe-style action with only a 57 note compass. The top four keys in the treble section actually use a modified Viennese-type action(but intro oriented rather than retro oriented) with the hammer assemblies being directly connected to the keys by wooden kapsels. The hammer assembly consists of a very delicate wooden lever which pivots in the kapsel. What type of hammers(now missing) were glued on the ends of these levers is a matter of conjecture, but they were probably very tiny and leather-covered.
