I believe its a full size 4/4 but I'm not sure it measures 23 1/2" long and 8 1/4" wide at widest point. This violin has been in a family for 5 generations and believed to be from the 1700's. The inside is marked Antonius Stradivarius Cremona Germany faciebat Anno 1720 and has a A/S logo. It is made of a beautiful tiger stripe maple wood. It has a signed bridge but I cant make out exactly what it says it looks like Okeshen or Qkeshen possible that the k is an r. Absolutely beautiful sound the tuners seem to work fine some light age wear but overall in good condition for its age. In a GSB original coffin case with original paper it has some age wear shown in pics. It also comes with a nice bow in also good vintage condition. I am not an expert so please take a look at the pics and feel free to ask questions. Antique Czech violin fiddle
This is a beautiful old Czech violin. No label, perhaps circa 1880s, made with a one-piece back, with back and sides of modestly but pleasingly figured maple. The spruce top has medium to wide grain and is straight and consistent throughout. The wood on this violin was well selected. The color, a deep mahogany red, complements the violin well. There is highlighting on the scroll, often a French technique, perhaps copied here. This is no factory fiddle. It is hand made and is a one-of-a-kind. Both in appearance and sound. The width at the nut is 22mm, a smidgen narrow if you are a big guy, but just right for a petite woman, someone with small hands or a child. The button has been repaired rather nicely, and you can see that there is a well-fitted ebony crown securely in place. This instrument has no cracks or repairs outstanding and is outfitted ... morewith: a quality ebony fingerboard. Properly planed and dressed a Wittner carbon fiber tailpiece new Dominant strings an ebony Guarneri-style chin rest new ebony nut new bridge new sound post ebony pegs. I believe its a full size 4/4 but I'm not sure it measures 23 1/2" long and 8 1/4" wide at widest point. This violin has been in a family for 5 generations and believed to be from the 1700's. The inside is marked Antonius Stradivarius Cremona Germany faciebat Anno 1720 and has a A/S logo. It is made of a beautiful tiger stripe maple wood. It has a signed bridge but I cant make out exactly what it says it looks like Okeshen or Qkeshen possible that the k is an r. Absolutely beautiful sound the tuners seem to work fine some light age wear but overall in good condition for its age. antique French 4/4 violin HENRY THOUVENEL excl playing cond no res This is a fantastic 19th century French violin with fantastic sound suitable for advanced and professional player. The stamp inside the violin says: THOUVENEL HENRY and TH in a circle. The back of the violin is made of one piece of super attractive tiger maple. And has no repairs or cracks. There iS A STamp near the button that says: POND& CO. ALBANY. I guess from the dealer in US who sold it. The sides and the scroll have the matching wood and except a dent. Or scratch from the old case have no damage( see the pic. The fingerboard has a piece of wood like a shim under it. I guess to make it higher. The top has some repairs; a long repair going through half of the violin under the bridge. I looked inside and can see a patch under the bridge. there are 2 other minor repairs( ... moreyou can see all in the pictures. And please ask for more pictures if you wish) The varnish has an orange yellow color with nice patina and all original with some shadings in the middle because of the repair. Very rare, antique violin, Rene Champion workshop - No Reserve!
This violin came to us originally from Boston. US. The suspicion back then and still is that this is a violin from the workshop of Rene Champion. This fine antique violin, however, is unlabeled, however, suspicion of the origin was made by the luthier in Boston as well as the local luthiers based on the craftsmanship and the age of the instrument. Local luthiers suspect the violin is at least 150-200 years old. Characteristics of fine antique handmade French violins are evident wherever you look at this violin. The wood is extraordinary. The top is of fabulously figured spruce with a cross hatch pattern of shimmering silks I have seen only once in my store, that time, it was a very expensive 19th century French violin. The back is a single piece of maple with very bold, irregular flame. The scroll is large, masculine, and crisply carved-clearly ... moredone by hand. The purfling is quite unique with very thin precise blacks sandwiching a white center strip. The arching, edge work and corners just reinforce the impression of quality of Rene Champion. This violin is in a very good but repaired condition. Like many fine old violins, this violin has its use and repairs. There have been a few repairs to the front, ribs and scroll. Everything that needs to be repaired has been, and the violin has been professionally set up to play. Violins like this are great values, because in perfect, unrepaired and labeled condition, this violin would be worth tens of thousands of dollars more than I am selling it for. This was played by one of our advanced level student at our music school before his trade-up. It was always very well looked after and played regularly. The tone of this violin is very wonderfully dark and deep. It has a responsive and wide open sound; full, rich and resonant. The overtones develop instantly and fill a large room immediately. The dynamics are superb-responding to either a light or heavy bow with a clean and pure tone. There is nothing bright about the tone of this violin on the lower three strings. E-string,

This is marked on the scroll end'Conservatory Violin' and has a label inside'Copy of Antonius Stradiuarius Made in Germany' There is a black paper on the handle with string numbers and guides as well as a copyright date of 1894 by Mr. Mrs. Frank T. Benjamin. There is also a number 940 written in. This comes with two bows that have lovely mother of pearl inlay in the handles. The hard coffin case is lined in purple fabric with clamps for the bows and a compartment that has an original empty violin string bag by'La Excellente' This also has a bridge made of wood that is marked'Dresden Germany' on it. This very interesting antique violin is offered to the highest bidder with no reserve. The violin is unlabeled but bears characteristics consistent with violins made in Prague in the la te 19th century. The scroll. F holes, varnish and antiquing, as well as the carving of the ffs. Edge s and button. All suggest an o rigin in Saxony. The region of far eastern G ermany and w estern Bohemia later know n as Czechosl ovakia. This region includes the violin making centers of Kli ngenthal, Markneukirchen. Graslit z and Prague. The violin bears its original carved human head scroll. Unlike many lion's head scrolls and other figured scrolls that were c rudely and quickly carved. This unique carving shows unusual artistry and attention to detail. The violin is in excellent original condition without cracks or crack repairs. T here is wear from ... moreuse. Including chips and scratches, as well as some slight wood loss on the lower bass edges and a chip off the lower corner of the bass f hole. There are two holes in the back of the pegbox to aid in stringing the violin or perhpas as a way of hanging it on a wall. This hole is not an uncommon attribute of earlier Cz ech and P rague school violins. E xcept for some cosmetic wear and patina from age. The violin is in great original condition. Very nice. Vintage violin made in Germany. Tag on the inside reads: Joh. Bapt. Schweitzer fecit at forman hierenym amati pestini 1813 made in Germany. Solid spruce top, maple one piece back, maple sides. There are two pins on back by the tail and one pin on the back by the neck joint. There are some minor scratches/wear marks which are normal for an instrument this age. No cracks in wood but one slight separation by the tailpiece anchor(see picture 12) Very open and woody sound-plays very smooth all the way up the neck. The plastic on the tip is cracked. The violin is used with scratches. Scuffs and nicks. The machine head tuners appear to be in good shape. Fingerboard has some wear. The tailpiece, chin rest and bridge each appear to be in good shape with some wear. There are no discernible cracks, aside from some old separation at some edges that have been long since glued. Probably French origin. The length is around 358mm. The neck seems original without graft work; the height of finger board is raised by a wood piece underneath. it has stable repairs on top. antique German Strad copy violin fiddle
This is a turn of the 20th Century Strad copy from Germany. I would love to charge more money for this violin than I am asking. But I think prospective buyers would be resistant. I don't know. I say this because this violin has gone through a few bumps in life and perhaps a buyer would be put off by that. However, it also has a wonderful, big tone, and easy playability, hence my contention that whoever buys this instrument is going to get the deal of a lifetime. Here's why: When this poor old thing arrived at the fiddle hospital. It had a mangled scroll and neck beyond repair, some cracked rib areas, cosmetic damage, and a tired, thin tone. Rather than mess around with the neck, we replaced it with a high quality, nicely figured maple neck. Check out the scroll. It's a beauty. Next. We took the violin apart, re-graduated the top ... moreplate and back to proper thicknesses, installed a high quality spruce bass bar, high quality spruce sound post, new willow upper and lower blocks, and a small rib graft across the end button hole. It has four corner blocks as well. The neck setting was perfect, the neck angle and centering are just right. Notice the nicely fitted ebony crown on the heel. The spruce top on this violin is well-selected wood with a good straight. Medium grain. The back is modestly figured maple. There is some damage to the purfling here and there(but not much) and the fiddle, as I mentioned, has the usual bumps, nicks and booboos that can accumulate over time. There are no major cracks or structural liabilities to worry about. This violin is ready to go! For sale is a professional size 4/4 violin made by Song. It is completely handmade and a single-back piece(most beginner violins and lower quality violins are made with two pieces glued together and the seam is visible; this violin is made entirely from one piece and so there is no seam) This is a very unusual and rare color. Which is somewhat difficult to capture in pictures with the flash. In some light it looks so dark as to be nearly black, but when light is shined on it you can see it's a rich, dark brown color. It has a certain degree of lenticularity, meaning the lines of the wood look like they shift when the light shifts, similar to how Tiger's Eye looks under moving light(in fact, it looks very much like a dark Tiger's Eye) Unfortunately, I do not know exactly what material this is made of, although I do know it's ... morenot common, so my loss is your gain. It plays very well. The violin also comes with a locking case(which has a humidity gauge) Two horsehair bows(one of which needs restrung) the strap, and chin rest. A FANTASTIC antique or vintage violin measuring 23 1/2" long by approximately 8" wide. The wood has BEAUTIFUL tiger striping. In wonderful condition with no structural flaws found. From a recent estate and is in a shipping box having come from a violin restorer, apparently having been"overhauled" It comes with a metal vilion case measuring 31" long. An antique Violin. Fro m Germany. About 1910. Nicolaus Amati model. L ength of back not including n eck button is 14 3/16 ins. Body w idths are 6 3/8. 4 3/8& 8 1/8 ins. In original condition, will need attention/ restoration and setting up. Some rough edges on sides of lower right top and upper left top. Some warping and issue at the bottom side where the tailpin goes in and will need a new pin. Sound pegs don't completely match and look to have been adjusted. Needs strings. C omes in an old wooden case. Which is a little worse for wear but still very stron g. Also included is an octagonal Bow. 29 1/8 ins, which has no hair. A fine antique french late 18th century violin of the Chappuy school made circa 1790. A rare and beautiful 18th century violin of the french school. Made circa 1790. The table is made of two parts of spruce, the fine grain widening to the edges. The back, ribs and head are unflamed. This violin is a fine piece of the french school, in the style of Augustin Chappuy. The varnish, of a deep brown colour on a golden ground, has a very nice patina. The head is gorgeous, and has been beautifully grafted on a new neck. The button of the neck has been reset with an ebony crown. The violin is in a good restored condition. With a few repaired cracks on table(without any soundpost one though) and a few minor cracks on ribs. The violin has been set-up in our workshop with a rosewood and bone tailpiece, a rosewood chinrest and endpin, and Thomastik Dominant ... morestrings. A good antique Violin by Aug. Fried. Glass of Saxony, Germany. About 1880. A curvy, Tyrolese style, Stradivarius model. In original condition. Including the varnish. Back and sides of vibrant curl and rich color. There is a crack on the left lower top below the'f' hole that may need attention(pic 6) Will likely need new strings. The old hard case is very distressed but solid and there is a usable Bow whose hair is thinning. The length of back not including the neck button is 14 3/16 inches. Antique Robert Glier Violin Pernambuco Bow Auburt Bridge GSB Wood Coffin Case Up for auction with NO RESERVE is a antique 1800's Robert Glier Violin. Pernambuco wood bow, and GSB coffin case. I believe its full size 4/4 but I'm not sure it measures 23 1/2" long and 8 1/8" wide at widest point. I was told its from 1894 and the case is pat 1888 so that seems to be probable. It is missing one string and probably needs a little TLC it has not been played in years. The wood has some age wear and patina the back has a nice tiger stripe grain it seems to have good sound and be of good quality but I'll leave that to the experts to decide. The inside sticker is marked Robert Glier manufacturer no 1831. Cincinnati 1894. The bow is a pernambuco wood looks similar to high dollar names I've seen on ebay like WE Hill and sons ... morebut its not marked, it has tape on one spot not sure if this is holding it together or if it was just put there to cushion the hold. Antique 1800's Nicolaus Amatus Amati Violin Beautiful Woods Playable Project
This auction is for a very well made copy of a Nicolo Amati violin that I am selling for a friend. I was told that this violin was played by a long past cousin around the turn of the last century. The top of this violin is very well grained with a few small areas that could use a touchup. The F holes show no edge damage. And retain their original shape. The back, ribs,and neck are all highly figured maple. The ribs show no problems at the lower edge at the chin rest. The Fingerboard is ebony, as are the tuners, and tailpiece, and nut. The sound post is in position, but may not be after shipping. The violin is also fully blocked. The finish appears to be oil over spirit varnish. The Label reads"Nicolaus Amatus Fecit in Cremona 1681" with the last two digits 81 penciled in. This violin is in well played condition needing some repair ... moreto three of the beaks as can be seen in the scans. There are also some grooves worn on the finger board from long play. The violin needs a good cleaning of a coat of ancient rosin, and a proper set up, as well as re attaching the nut in order to be playable. I am no expert, and don't know how to date this instrument, but there is a pouch from Carl Fischer on 6-8 Fourth Ave N.Y. 1898-99 that contains a number of gut strings, and an interesting example of an Aubert bridge showing a six pointed star above the name. I really wanted to keep this violin for my daughter who plays, but she has a few, and in this economy you can't have them all! THE ROSIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION. That my daughter wanted. The case is pretty much shot, but might be worth mentioning that at one time it appears to have been covered in leather. Good Quality Full size ANTIQUE Violin bow. Bow is made from old stiff wood. Bow weighs about 53 grams without hair and wrapping. Bow length is exactly 29 inches from tip to end of bow screw. Frog is original and in nice shape. Stick is in good shape as well with no cracks. The bow is faintly marked"DURRO" This will make a very good bow once rehaired. Should be a fairly stout stick that will produce strong tones. Should be about 59 or 60 grams once haired and wrapped. Shipping is $12 in a tube to USA. Overseas is $25. You are bidding on a 1942 vintage/antique 4 string violin/fiddle by William Wilkanowski. 200. The violin itself is in very good condition and the wood is still shiny and good color. It's sort of a cherry color. The 4 strings are still intact and not broken. The violin does have some small scratches/knicks but they aren't bad and it's still in good condition. Inside the violin, you can see the label that says, W. Wilkanowski Violin Maker 1942#200. It comes inside a black case that has a purple lining. The case itself is in rough shape, with the leather coming off the handle, the metal parts are rusted and the edges are worn. See pictures. This is to be expected, given its age and how long its been sitting in storage. This is very nice. Double purfled, 4/4 violin. It has has a well flamed two piece back and beautiful, hand applied varnish. I don't know if it's been re-done or not, looks to have been played a good deal. Well built, it is fully blocked and lined. The fingerboard has been shimmed. There appears to be an old saddle crack repair that didn't show in the pictures. I see no other issues, but as with any violin of this age, there may be repairs that I am unaware of. Please see pictures. All in all, in remarkable shape. It measures 23 1/4" long, with a 14" back and 8" lower bout. The sale includes an old"junker" case and two bows that need rehairing. Grafted Scroll(Picture 8) Back plate is made of a single piece of Tiger Maple. The back has a loss of color. But the finish is still very smooth. With Medium Spruce Top Plate with varnish crazing.
