Antique Duncan Phyfe FIFE dinning Table 26" 95" X 40" This Is A rare Duncan Phyfe Vintage Antique table in GOOD condition. This table is just waiting to be refinished and it will be worth thousands. This extremely rare table is in perfect working condition. The sides fold down and lock with ease. The leafs are all here and I have a table protector that adds padding and keeps the heat burns off the table. As you can see I got that a little to late. LOL. Anyways the heat marks you see are not damaging. They can be removed by refinishing the table top. The famous Phyfe table slides out to add leafs, and it is great for small spaces like appartments or smaller dinning rooms. About DUNCAN FIFE Duncan Fife started life in Scotland; he was born in 1768 near Loch Fannich. When he was 16. His family immigrated to Albany, New York and young Duncan was apprenticed in a cabinetmaker’s shop, probably his father’s. By 1792, Duncan had moved to New York City and was listed as a furniture joiner. Two years later, he opened his own shop and changed his name to Duncan Phyfe, probably to distance himself from his British heritage in this post Revolutionary War period. The workshop of the newly named Phyfe seems to have taken off almost immediately. At its height. The shop boasted 100 craftsmen and over the years they produced numerous pieces of furniture of every variety. Phyfe’s furniture shows an absolute dedication to quality in workmanship. Thomas Stanesby Jr. was apprenticed to his father in 1706 and set up his own establishment over the Temple Exchange in Fleet Street near St Dunstan-in-the-West soon after being released from his indenture in 1713. In 1728 he received the Freedom of the Turner's Company and in 1739 he was elected Master. In 1734 he inherited all his father's tools and a seal ring. He eventually took two apprentices. He marked his instruments'STANESBY IUNIOR' or'STANESBY LONDON' the mark'MURAEUS' is added to the only surviving bassoon, which is dated 1747(it was possibly repaired by the maker of that name) Other surviving instruments include 38 flutes(of which 25 are ivory) two flutes d'amore, 16 recorders, five oboes and a bassoonUp for auction is a rare piece of history. I purchased this at a estate sale where the seller found this and other authentic civil war items. Was told it might be a civil war era fife but he couldn't find the makers mark on it. When I brought it home I found it and you can see it in the photos. Stamped STANESBY IUNIOR C It's a little worn but still there and readable after all it's dated around 1732. Also at some point in time someone scratched in some letters and numbers along with some anchor symbols into the brass ferrels on the ends. So I am not sure which it is) The metal fittings and keys look like nickel- they may originally have been silver plated. There are 6 nickel keys with dampers. It is made in two pieces, the'mouth piece' has a brass connector, which slides into a brass liner in the bottom section. The instrument does not have any maker's marks or any other information stamped on it. As mentioned. I am not a musician, but to my untrained eye, I think the instrument is probably still playable: the keys seem to work well, with ... morethe springs still intact. Condition/ Defects: The instrument is in very good condition- free from splits in the wood; the silver plating has largely worn off; the metal collar on the larger section is slightly bent. Antique Rosewood Fife Bb B-Flat Wooden Flute by George Cloos
According to beafifer.com this is probably a. Walter Crosby model fife by George and Frederick Cloos made in Brooklyn c. 1870. Has the hard to read mark Crosby and the maker's mark GC. This flute is 17 inches long. Rosewood body with long. Conical, seamless brass ferrules that bear the characteristic Cloos knurling. There is a small inconsequential chip on the end. Inside the ferrule, see the last photo. This flute belonged to Los Angeles jazz great Bud Shank. I have no way to prove the Bud Shank provenance. I bought several flutes from his estate liquidator about a year after his passing and this is one of them.

Up for auction is an early antique post Civil War Era wood fife made by George Cloos of Brooklyn. New York. This instrument is being offered in AS-IS used vintage condition. No returns. ~ I am not an expert on antique fifes. I know this gem needs to be restored with tender loving care ~ Rare and hard-to-find. This 19th C entury American six-hole wooden fife features a two-piece construction with a threaded tuning joint. The metal ferrules on the ends are short and attached by"d im pling" with a punch in two spots on each. They seem to be nickel o r German silver. The wood is a dark hardwood. Rosewood? The head joint and the body are both hallmarked GEO. CLOOS with the superimposed cypher along with the model number 8(the name Crosby does not appear. I believe this is an earlier Cloos example. Circa mid-to-late 1860’s? Unusual in ... moresize, the length is approximately 13" this seems shorter than other fifes. I am not sure what key it is pitched in. H owever the low note is approximate ly a concert D and the distance between the b low hole center and center of the last finger hole is approximately 8 3/4" This small antique fife is in AS-IS used vintage condition with surface marks and wear commensurate with use and age. The head joint has been thickly wrapped with black tape by a previous player to effect a better embouchure plate. There is some wear to the threading at the tuning joint and the ferrules show oxidation. There are light surface marks and wear to the finish. Some tape residue and tiny speckles of white paint along with a small scuff of blue paint. This 19th C entury marching band instrument has been“around the block” and shows signs of wear but the wooden body seems seems intact with no visible cracks(please see all photos) This antique fife is being offered in AS-IS used vintage condition. Incredible Civil War Era Fife Up for bid is what APPEARS to be a Civil War Era wooden fife. The dark wood fife has a large oval blow hole at one end and six smaller holes at the other end. Between the mouth hole and first finger hole is another smaller hole with some chipping surrounding it. Either end of the fife is detailed with a metal(silver? cap. The fife measures: 15 3/4" long. This auction is for an antique boxwood flute or fife with one brass key and ivory bands. The ivory is less than 5% of the total weight. This flute comes in its original marbleized box which I believe reads F Flute. 10 Yellow#761. I am not an expert in antique instruments so I am unsure what this label means. The flute is in good condition for its age, it is missing one of the ivory bands, another band is cracked, and there are a couple of shrinkage cracks to the wood. The string wrap is missing where the pieces connect. The rest of the flute appears to be in very good condition and I am sure the issues could be repaired. I would estimate this flute to date from the mid 1800's. There is no makers name that I can see but it appears to be a very high quality flute. EARLY ANTIQUE WOODEN FLUTE FIFE--23" LONG--ROSE WOOD?--ESTATE FIND--LOOK!
You are bidding on an ANTIQUE wooden flute/fife! This rose wood? flute measures approx. 23 1/4" long. And looks like it breaks down into 4 or 5 pieces. There are no makers marks, hallmarks, or numbers that I can see anywhere on the flute. The connector that attaches to the mouthpiece has several cracks in the wood, and someone has taped it as you can see in the photo. There are four silver keys, all of which have tarnished. The keys still function, but need to be cleaned and un-stuck a little bit. I can get one wooden section to come apart on the flute, but the other sections are pretty stuck together. I don't want to damage anything, so leaving it as is. This came from a local estate, and is being sold in as found condition. Overall NEAT piece to add to your collection! Unmarked Antique Rosewood Civil War Era Fife With Brass End Caps
This unmarked fife measures approx. 15 1/4" long by 7/8" at the widest and we believe it's made of rosewood. It has a few dents. Scratches, wear and staining consistent with age. The end cap at the mouthpiece end is 15/16" wide and has a 1/8" split(see photos) and the other end cap is 7/8" wide. The end caps look like brass. It has one mouth hole where it's widest and six finger holes and tapers to 5/8" at the ends. We have not cleaned this piece. antique WOOD FLUTE wooden FIFE woodwind INSTRUMENT wind PICCOLO victorian CHILDS
For sale is some sort of antique victorian period woodwind instrument. It looks like a cross between a flute. Fife, and piccolo. It measures about 11 13/16" long and is made of wood with metal hardware. It has 2 parts, a mouthpiece area and the main body area with the holes. It is in very good shape with typical light wear from age and use, as pictured. I see 2 slight cracks on the end portion(see last pic) and a small area(see 3rd pic lower left area) where it looks like a surface scar was filled repaired a very long time ago with some sort of amber/sappy material and since then some of that repair material has worn away. That damage appears to be surface/cosmetic but I am no expert so this is only my best guess assessment. I wonder if this was a child's instrument? So there you have it. Measuring 16 3/8" overall with brass or bronze end ferrels. This nice Rosewood Fife appears very old, showing color wear patina around the lip hole, and minor evidence of use overall.
