The tuners are rusted and inoperable. ... moreOne tuner button and shaft is missing(see picture) The mahogany peghead is in good shape but the nut is missing. There are 17 frets and they are in reasonably good shape. The mahogany neck is tight and straight and the fingerboard has mother-of-pearl dot inlay markers. The top is spruce and has a large crack. There are no splinters or missing pieces of wood and the crack should close nicely. There are 2 areas on the bowlback where the staves have separated but there are no cracks and the staves close nicely when pressure is applied. The decorative purfling on the top has missing pieces. The scratch plate is cracked but it is complete and has the stylized"OS" design that identifies it as an Oscar Schmidt. The tailpiece plate where the strings are attached is damaged(see picture) The number"4" is stamped on the volute. There is no reserve for this old mandolin in need of work. Description: This is an unusual mandolin that looks a little like a guitar. I cannot find any picture exactly like it on the internet. There is no label on the mandolin but it looks old. And it may have been a collectible. There are scratches and some peeling of the varnish all around but I still think the mandolin is in good condition overall. I am not a mandolin player so there might be some defects inside which I am not aware of. I could not see any cracks on the body of the mandolin. Gold Tone Electric Mandolin, Rigel Design
Up for auction is a Gold Tone GM-110 Mandolin in excellent condition. With a hardshell case. These beautiful instruments are made by Gold Tone not as clones, but under licensing from Rigel, and thus are made to the same exacting specifications and materials, including a maple neck, ebony fingerboard, solid spruce top, solid maples back and sides, a hidden bridge-mounted pickup, etc. The electrified sound is great, though in my case I hardly ever plugged in, as I am not a performer. However, the volume and resonance of the instrument when unplugged are great. I upgraded from a beginner's mando to this one and have been delighted with the rich sound and playability of the Gold Tone. Nice axe! The case is not original, so the fit is not exact, and externally has some wear and tear, but has served as perfectly acceptable and sturdy protection ... morefor the instrument. Vintage Washburn Bowlback Mandolin that was recently pulled out the attic for restoration. The sound is mellow and surprisingly pleasant. But the intonation is not so good. Perhaps you can adjust the bridge to make it work, but I could not. Recently cleaned, polished, and restrung with extra light bowlback gauge mandolin strings. Pretty inlays and rosewood would make this an attractive addition to your collection. Two cracks on top and one on the bowl were filled with glue and pressed together but are still visible. I'd like to sell this as-is(no return) so please know that what you are getting MAY NEED SOME EXTRA WORK TO BE PLAYABLE TO YOUR EARS so bid carefully. This mandolin is a bow back mandolin and is in need of cleaning and some repairing to the veneer of the hand plate on the piece. The actual design detail has some cracking and the inlaid is raised a bit. The ivory pegs are in good condition and still work. The case is strong and has a handle made of leather with a number 4-10 on it. I am selling this wonderful piece for my friend. It was stored away and has not been used in some time. Beautiful wood work on what appears to be a Czech mandolin. I have another one where the body style. Tailpiece, paint scheme, tuners is the same. The other one has a made in Czech sticker so it's a good bet this one is also, but not 100% guaranteed. Overall mandlin is in good shape. Missing 6th, 8th, 14- 17th frets. As you can see a slight seperation at the neck/body joint causing the neck to raise slightly. I tried to show with using the light the crazing on the front of body. There is virtually little to no crazing on the back/sides. Very nice tuners. Smooth, no rust. Projects quite loud. Nice ring to it. Includes case(Not original) Pkg will be carefully packed. This mandolin was handcrafted by Thanh Musical Instruments. The shop with the most renowned Vietnamese luthiers on"Luthier Street" in Saigon. This is a high-quality mandolin with excellent finish and hand-carved solid tone woods. I picked it up from Thanh's shop one year ago and it has resided in Long Beach. CA since. It is opening up very nicely and will continue to do so. I originally bought it to play Brazilian Choro mandolin on it. It has a very choro sound and fit the bill nicely. The bone bridge, specifically, gives it the choro punch that American mandolins are missing. This instrument is equally good for Irish and English music. Not much of a bluegrass instrument, though I've certainly used it for bluegrass. It competes well in a room full of instruments. I'm getting a bandolim from Brazil, however, so I am letting ... morethis guy go. Also. I took great precautions with humidity in the first few months and slowly tapered to the natural humidity of Long Beach. There has been no warping or any other alterations to the instrument since it's year in a dryer climate. This is a very very good sign. Vintage Mandolin..Harmony Stella..Stunning Restoration
Here we have a stunning Harmony Stella Mandolin circa 1930. The back panel was removed and all bracing and supports were glued and new maple supports were added as needed. The neck was checked and strightned and secured from the inside so it will not loosen. Back panel was replaced and a channel was cut for a new top binding. On this model the binding is painted on originally. But this one now has a real binding. I was able to save the original peghead logo. I then used a mahogany dye to bring out the beautiful grain on this mandolin. I the complete the finish with nitrocellulose lacquer and hand rub and wax for a beautiful high gloss finish. I reused the tuners, tailpiece and rosewood bridge complete with the undamaged bone insert. I sanded the rosewood fretboard and dressed and leveled the frets and they are both in excellent condition. ... moreI installed new D'Addario medium gage strings and a new"Tusq" brand nut. Action is slightly high at about.075" 080" but is still easy to play with a very traditional, sweet tone with a nice clear sustain. Neil Dean Custom Vermont Hand Built A style Mandolin
This is a custom hand built in Vermont One of a Kind Neil Dean generation 2 A style Mandolin. Neil Built this in my garage for me in 2004 when he was still working at a luthier school under Peter Langdell in Cambrige Vermont. This beauty has detailed curfing work especially around the sound hole that demonstrates the hand made originality and uniqueness of this instrument. There is a custom hand carved crescent moon inlay in the head. Neil made only two of these types and has refused to sell his even when he was offered $1000. This one has a built in steel non adjustable truss rod. The neck is hand carved solid oak. The front and back are hand carved maple out of curly maple solid boards. The fretboard is rosewood. The tail piece and tuning machines are high quality. The nut is not glued down and can be moved. Raised or lowered. This mandolin ... moreplays like a dream. The action is perfect. I had it designed to be durable and loud in the lower range. It has a deeper richer sound than most mandolins and is not as piercing in the high end. It stays faithfully in tune for extended periods of time. It shows only very minor signs of wear. There is a chipped off piece on the back of the tip of the head(see photo) it in no way effect the playability of the mandolin. The tail plug is chipped but can easily be replaced if desired. As you can see from the photos there are a couple strings missing. I guarantee that this mandolin is in playing condition. I have done my best to accurately describe its appearance including flaws. Do not bid with out reading all the details and viewing all the pictures. I am sad to be selling this but I need money to move. I hate to let this beautiful work of art go. But I would love to pass it on to an enthusiast who will give this gorgeous instrument a good home and lots of playing. 1917 Gibson Model A Mandolin vintage antique
Up for sale is a 1917 Gibson Model-A mandolin. It is a wonderful mandolin. It is in great condition for its age. There is some finish crazing and a some wear in the paint. Particularly around the edges of the top. It appears that everything is original, though the tailpiece cover and one tuner bushing is missing. It plays well. It could use a set-up, as the action is probably set a little low(there is a little paper under the A strings to lessen this problem, but it should probably receive a proper set up) There is some fret buzz on harder notes, particularly on the fifth fret A strings. Other tuners were installed at some point, but the originals have been re-installed. There are a few holes from the other tuners, though they are all completely covered by the back plate of the original tuners. The round edge of the pickguard has chipped ... moreoff. The original strap peg on the bridge piece is missing, leaving a approx. 3/8" drilled hole. Near the endpin their is a small crack in the back. It is minor and doesn't appear to be spreading. Unfortunately, the original case is not present. The FON and Serial number date the mandolin to 1916-1917 depending on the dating method used. It is a black-top mandolin, which is unique. It does not appear to be refinished, but I cannot be 100% sure that it is not. Black was offered as a color on the model-A, but I am not sure if it was for this year. Used Fishman M-200 pickup with carpenter jack for archtop mandolin. Treated gently and is in excellent condition both visually and functionally. Of course the br idge feet were countered to fit my mandolin but very little of the ebony was removed. I sanded off just enough wood to fit my mando top. Leaving nearly zero space between the saddle and bridge. In other words. I did not remove a lot of wood so that I would have to raise the saddle to compen sate. Hopef ully this descri ption makes sense. Antique Washburn Cremonatone Bowlback Mandolin
The Washburn. Best In The World"as it reads on the inside label. This is an antique turn of the century Washburn Bowlback Mandolin. It has some dates on the inside one being 1893 and the other being 1894 pertaining to awards this model won at world's fairs. I think it's safe to assume this specific instrument dates from 1894 through 1905. I have never strung it up but there seems to be nothing majorly wrong with this instrument. The neck is VERY solid. All it's pegs are still there, and it has it's original bridge still. The complete label on the inside of the instrument reads. Gold Medal and Deploma of Honor. Antwerp 1894. Highest Award at World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago 1893. The Washburn. Best in the world. Number: 228808. The material and workmanship of this Washburn instrument guaranteed for one year from ... moredate of original purchase provided this label is not mutilated. Cremonatone. The only thing physically wrong with this instrument is a seam that has come slightly apart on the back of the bowl which could be glued with little effort. Some minor things to worry about: the pick guard is curling up a bit on the edges. There seems to be some paint smudged on the back, and there is a seemingly repaired crack on the front of the instrument. Everything can be clearly seen in the photos. All and all. For it's age and condition, this would make for a beautiful complete restoration project, or just throw some strings on it as is and i'm sure she'll sound awesome!

I call this one"Frontline Freddie" because of his unfortunate exposure to IEDs. RPGs, and LOPs(Lack Of Patience) A little in the way of background on this lad. He used to be a full growed bowl back, or as we call them here in the hills, taterbug mandolin. Then someone with even less patience than me, frustrated by the manner in which these dudes.like greased watermelons.try to slip away from you while playing them, smashed it down over something. Yes, busting the taterbug bottom out. I got it that way, shattered in pieces, primarily for the tuners. Then I thought to myself, self, you might be ahead to try and saw that bottom off straight, add a flat bottom, and call it a modified taterbug. So that’s what you have here. In my view it sounds better than the full growed variety and it definitely will not try to squirm away from you ... morewhile you pick. And, of course, while doing internal surgery, I added an internal pickup so that through a modern day amp you can make this dude sound like anything from a bull frog to a banshee. Another curiosity for the mandolin addict. Get it, you’ll like it. Period. P.S. Over the years. I have purchased scores of instruments here on eBay. Many, if not most, were in need of repair, some badly. Since I enjoy bringing musical instruments back to life.and hoarding them.nearly as much as I enjoy playing them, I ended up with a houseful. Vintage Silvertone Mandolin...Beautifully Restored....Ready to Play
Here we have a very nice Fully Restored Silvertone Mandolin. This a very nice solid mandolin made in the 1940's. I start by removing the back panel and glued all existing braces and supports. I reset the neck at the proper angle and attach from the inside so it will not loosen. I replaced the back panel and cut new channel for the new cream colored bindings. I was able to save the original checkerboard binding on the front. I then removed all the old finish down to bare wood and use dyes to bring out the beautiful wood grain. I used a beautiful cherry veneer on the peghead. I the complete the finish with nitrocellulose lacquer and hand rub and wax for a beautiful high gloss finish. This one has a very dark front panel which made it difficult to photograph. Its not purple but black with a touch of dark brown. I reused the original Kluson ... moreDeluxe tuners which work very well and replaced the tuning knobs. It also includes the original brass bushings on the tuner shafts. I sanded and oiled the beautiful rosewood fretboard. I leveled and dressed the frets and they show no wear. I installed new D'Addario medium gage strings. I used the original rosewood adjustable bridge. I also used the original tailpiece but the original cover was missing. So I am making covers now because the original ones are so hard to find. I hope you think it is complementary to the restoration. Action is about.070" at the twelfth fret. Easy to play and sounds nice and sweet with good volume and sustain. Gibson F4 Mandolin 1914 with original hardshell case - Handel tuners
Up for auction is this 1914 Gibson F4 Mandolin. We are selling this on consignment for a customer. The customer indicated that the mandolin had been stored. Unstrung and unopened for over 25 years. When it was brought to us. We took it to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville to have it appraised in the condition it was in at the time. George Gruhn appraised it for $6000. See the photo of the appraisal. This appraisal will be included with the mandolin. Mr. Gruhn indicated that once the instrument had been restored it would be closer in value to $7000. This restoration has been completed and included re-gluing the loose neck binding, polishing the tail piece, and fine polishing the entire instrument's finish to the fine condition it is now in. VERY RARE COOL 1970'S IBANEZ 524 STYLE MANDOLIN VINTAGE ARTIST JAPAN EXCELLENT
IBANEZ MANDOLIN Here is a really cool and interesting. And great playing and sounding mandolin. I always believed It is most likely a prototype, very early or one-off Ibanez mandolin and is built as the classic 524 model. This headstock logo is affectionately known among Ibanez mando entheusiasts as the"bug" logo, and I have never seen the bug logo on any other mandolin other than an Ibanez. The mandolin is hand built of all solid woods, and has the total look and feel of a 1970's Ibanez 524 mandolin built in the Hoshino shop in Japan. They were both told at Sam Ash that the mandolins were built by Ibanez as a special purchase and built exclusively for Sam Ash as kind of the house brand for a short time. I appreciated the input. This is a very cool vintage mandolin. All solid woods, stain and lacquer are excellent and well up to the high standards Ibanez was known for back then. You can see the quality in the photos here. I do believe this mandolin to be all original(except possibly the pickguard according to one email I received) The neck and action are great and play wonderfully. This is the best playing and sounding Ibanez or Ibanez type mandolin I have owned. There is a chip in the binding on the lower point(the one close to the tailpiece) When playing the instrument, the chip is at the bottom and would never be noticed. It is about the only blem worth mentioning. Nice hard case which is probably original to the mandolin. I don't want to say much more or start some kind of Ibanez history war or too much conversation. This gorgeous. 8-string antique mandolin was purchased by the consignor many years ago and it was love at first sight. He had it carefully restored and as you can see, the craftsman did a beautiful job. This is a George Washburn Cremonatone"New Model" bowl back mandolin circa 1890 to 1900. I have been unable to find a serial number and the sticker inside the sound hole simply reads: George Washburn New Model. The hard case. Which is shown in the last couple of photos, is included as well. The mandolin has the original ivory tuning pegs. Mother of pearl inlay position marks on the fingerboard and triangular MOP inlay around the sound hole.The bowl back is ... moremulti-ribbed and probably made from exotic rosewood. The pick guard is tortoise shell and the instrument has a beautiful crown motif tail piece that may well be sterling silver or silver plate. I'm not sure if you can see it in the photos. But the crown is adorned with a honey bee, spider and fly. There is intricate wood inlay around the sound hole and the outer edge of the mandolin as shown. The mandolin was restored many years ago and over the years it developed a couple of cracks in the top or face. These are clearly shown in the third photo. The cracks do not affect the outstanding sound quality; the consignor recently took the mandolin to an early music shop and the store owner tuned up the instrument and played an impromptu tune. The music shop said that repairing the cracks would cost around $120 to $150. And that has been taken into consideration when pricing this precious instrument. Vintage Vega Bowlback mandolin
This is a vintage Vega bowlback mandolin from the early 1900's. It is in excellent condition for its age. With all original craftsmanship. The action is super low and fast. There are hardly any cosmetic flaws. The only ones that I could see are two very small and short hairline cracks on the face, one just to the left of the pick guard(zoom in on pics, not noticeable otherwise) and one even thinner and smaller where the screw mount is to the left of the sound hole. There are a few other small nicks around the instrument which is to be expected with an instrument which I am guessing is around 100 years old. The bowl is beautiful with no cracks. One stave is slightly raised, very, very, slightly, you cant tell by looking at it, you can only tell by running your fingers across the bowl in one small place. However, it is not an actual crack ... morein the wood and you won't be able to tell from a picture. I just want to disclose any flaws that I can find even if they are minor and insignificant. Considering its age it is a real beauty which sounds and plays great. It actually plays better than it looks, see the pic showing how low the action is. I guess that's what you can expect from a Vega. I am including the vintage pickup/amplification device which is shown in the last picture. I know nothing about it. It was on the instrument when I bought it. I left the screw mount in place in the event someone knows how to fix the amp devise or want to attach a different one. When I purchased the mandolin the amp device was as shown in the picture with the cord cut off and tucked into the sound hole. I have no clue how it works or if it is worth anything. Please ask any questions. I will do my best to answer. There is no case for the instrument but I did put on a new set of ultra light strings recently which I will loosen when I ship. This is a very clean and relatively rare vintage Weymann'Mandolute' style# 30 Mandolin manufactured by Weymann& Sons of Philadelphia. PA. T he serial number on the instrument is 163XX. There isn't much accurate information on specific production dates but to the best of my research I date it from between the 1910's to the early 1920's. This is a beautiful all original mandolin that is in exceptionally good condition both structurally and cosmetically. Other than a few scratches the only issues of note are the floating bridge which has a small piece at the base that had broken off, and the fret board that has a stable crack from the 12th fret to the body(a VERY common issue) both of which can be seen in the photos and do not affect playability. This instrument features a close grain Spruce top. A book matched back and ... moresides of highly flamed Maple, engraved, Nickel plate closed tuners and tailpiece, Tortoise pick guard, a bound body, fretboard and oval sound hole and Mother of Pearl fret markers. It has a warm, mellow tone and the volume and sustain that is expected from a finely made instrument of this vintage. This auction is for a Antique CF Martin& Co mandolin. Nazarith PA. The Serial No 8498 is marked on the inside. This is an 8 string instrument, I am not sure what body style this is called(I am not a music expert) The wood workmanship is excellent, great details. This is missing 2 strings. The wooden part across the bottom section that is under the strings is loose, as is the metal piece at the base that the string go under. The wood has a few scracthes on it but no holes or cracks that I can see. The neck piece has some fine inlayed details on it. The 8 turning keys look to all be original. Super wood inlay work on this as well. It is about 23" long& the bowl part is about 6" tall. Buyer gets these as seen and described. Please review both rows of the photos that are provided. Ovation Mandolin w/ Hard Case
Up for sale is my black Ovation MAE148 Mandolin with the original hard case. The mandolin is in excellent condition and plays very well. This is the Ovation Applause version and comes with a spruce top. Roundback composite body, mando-quintad bracing and a DJ3 preamp. This is an excellent mandolin to play or to learn on. Up for auction tonight is a late 60's Silvertone Mandolin with original case. It is in very good condition as is the case. Pickguard is there(amazing) There is a place on the back that looks like might have gotten near something hot. It does not look that bad. I will include a new set of strings.
