Here is a rare. Antique ukulele method published in England in 1924. The title is, The Wright Way to Learn Ukulele' by C.E. Wheeler; subtitle, The Easiest Self-Instructor of this Popular Instrument' It is 32 pages long. This method is comprehensive. Going from the rudiments of reading written music, to learning all the notes on the fretboard, to common chord shapes in all keys, to strum patterns, ending with five full songs: Old Folks at Home, Cielito Lindo, Aloha Oe, Love is Just a Gamble, 1-2-3-4, and Lil' Liza Jane. The right hand corners are dog eared. But they don't inhibit the turning of the pages. Otherwise book is in decent, useable condition-no marks on pages. Balck Flourish Auction Template This item sold at auction for 2.450. Buyer could not pay for the item. First 2.350 Takes it. What you see pictured is what you get! Shows honest age and use. Nice condition. Bridge needs to be glued back on. Although the bridge has fallen off, it is complete. No cracks or breaks. Apart from that no damage. Minor surface scratches from use. Tuning keys turn fine. Head stock has a dull tone to it. It does not really show up in the pictures, I did not notice it at first, but in a dim light it showed up. We are not sure what it is, but our best guess is it might be old wax. Used on the back. Not sticky or anything, like I said neither of us noticed it at first. Rare Clean Vintage Antique 1920's 1930's HARMONY Soprano Uke Ukulele Stencil Top
This is about as nice as they come. This is one of the earliest Harmony Ukuleles. Dating from between the 1920's and 1930's. The uke is in near perfect condition. The decal is excellent. This ukulele has had very little use. And a near perfect finish. There is four original tuning pegs. The body has a great looking Stencil top finish. The neck show some wear, but is nice a straight. Very Rare Antique HARO INSTRUMENTS Made In Germany 6 STRING Soprano Uke UKULELE
This is about as rare as they come. The instrument is the same size as a soprano ukulele. It measures 20" long. And has the same fret configuration as a soprano ukulele. What is very unique about it is the six string set up. Looking across the nut, the six strings are evenly spaced apart. The ukulele/ little guitar was likely made around the 1920's. The name HARO- INSTRUMENT Made In Germany is on the inside label. There is also a picture of a young girl playing a four string version of this instrument. The insturment is very clean, and looks like it was refinished as some point of it's life. All the parts appear to be original and complete. The neck, headstock, back and sides look to be in excellent condition. The top has a very tight, no movement repaired crack near the neck. This was likely repaired a long time ago. It's ... morevery solid. The area where the neck meets the body has movement, and will likely need to be reset and restrung in order to make it properly playable. This beautiful uke is part of a collection of instruments that I have acquired over the years and is a wonderful piece. It plays just fine and will come with a new set of strings. It has 4 strings all intact. it comes in the original leather cloth covered case. the case is not in the best of conditions as it has been in the atticc for many years it was only re-discovered on a house move.the strings are all intact but dont tighten for some reason.It was taken when my grand fathers house was being emptyed. it is a well made ukulele by a well known name. any questions please ask. VTG ANTIQUE MARTIN 3M UKULELE
Nice original Martin style 3M uke with original Martin case. Uke shows its age and the finish is faded. But will plish out. It plays find and has good action. Neck is straight and frets show very little use. Tuning pegs are original and are Martin originals. Back of the uke was replaced with Brazilian rosewood. Craftsmanship on the work done is excellent and the seams and binding fit well. The back of the neck is stamped Martin Co. Nazareth. Pa. A good sounding and playing uke for the working man.

Vintage Antique Ukulele Ukelele, Roy Smeck Mahogany Martin clone 1930s
Vintage Roy Smeck from back in the golden day of the 30s. This is in generally good condition. Made from all solid Honduras Mahogany except for the nut, which looks like ebony. The fretboard is stained dark, with white dots for markers. It has a couple of nicks along the bottom edges, but other than that just some strum wear on the body and a bit on the frets. Bar frets. Correct vintage tuners, no cracks, warps, splits. Plays beautifully and holds tune. Very solid and strong, excellent for an 8o+ year old uke. This one you can wail on and feel ok about it. Uke is loud and the action good. This was a copy of Martin's style O. Though it is a bit narrower in the waist and the body a tad shorter. The head is almost identical, though the spacing on the tuners is wider. Also, this is an Island style uke, with the fretboard level with the face ... moreof the body, whereas Martins had an ebony fretboard overlaid on their mahogany neck. Needless to say, but I will anyway, the finish-out on the Martins is better. The finish of this uke is almost perfect condition. With the exception of the aforementioned dings. Really nice varnish, no scratches or scuffs worth mentioning. Looks like it was played a few times, then put away in a closet for 80 years. A great. Strong uke from back in the day. DESCRIPTION How cool is this antique soprano ukulele with original case! The inside case says is from Rushworth and Dreaper who outsourced other makers for different instruments they sold. There name is mostly recognized for organs. Based on the address it dates c.1920s. It's quite decorative which was one of the reasons I purchased many years ago. T he neck angle is off. I was going to carve a thin bone bridge to compensate rather than reset neck. Well that's a project that never happened so it's time for this little gem to find a new home. Antique Vintage Ukulele, Ukelele, Island Style 1930 era Martin Shape
This uke dates to about 1930. It is not pure island style. Since the fretboard is slightly higher than the body, and it is made of mahogany, but it does have the simplicity of the island designs. It is made of solid Honduras mahogany. With an ebony nut, and what looks like maple/walnut(or ebony) purfling and marquetry around the top edge and the rosette. There are mother-of-pearl markers, and wire frets, indicating the true age of this uke. Wire frets were not used much after 1930. The headstock has a dark triangle at the top, but there is no indication as to the maker. The bracing inside is side-to-side, as is normal for ukuleles, but the bracing is shaved to a contour, like the finer ukes of the day. The body and neck are without cracks. Chips, breaks, repairs, impression damage, strum wear or problems of any kind. The bridge is tight. ... moreThe action normal. The back is radically arched, the heel beautifully tapered-see photos. When I found this uke. I was momentarily stunned at the condition. It looked as if it were bought in 1930, played a few times, and then put away for 70 years or so. This is not to say that it looks like a factory model of 2013. The ukes of this era were ALL assembled by hand. Sanded by hand, finished by hand, and set up by hand. It does not have a sprayed finish, but is as near perfect as a vintage finish can be. It has slight crazing, as vintage finishes do, with a few very minor scuffs and nicks that the age would indicate. That said. This is a stunning old uke. The'ropey' style was much sought after, and today is rare and hard to find. The tuners. I am not sure about. They look to have some vintage, but they may be violin pegs. Either way, they look good and work well. This uke is tight. Solid, and ready to play. It came with the original strings, one of which is gut( but they will need replacing immediately. Vintage Antique Regal Ukulele, Ukelele, Martin clone, 1928-1937
Very nice old Regal-top of their line. If I'm not mistaken. This uke is built from mahogany with a raised ebony fretboard and mother-of-pearl markers. It has the correct vintage tuners-like new- wire frets, and new strings. The finish on this uke is very good vintage condition, smooth and glossy, with only a few scuffs or small scratches. It has been extremely well-kept all these years. Since I believe this uke dates to the 30s. This uke plays very well and has a particular lush sound to it. For some reason. It is not as loud as my Martins, but has a certain something the Martins do not, perhaps due to the slightly larger body size. This is a soprano. Not a concert sized uke. There are no cracks. Splits or problems that I could see. The uke plays extremely well, and could be mistaken for a much newer uke. The rosette. However, is slightly ... moreimpefect where it joins at the top, it is a bit pointy, though this is strictly cosmetic and could be set right by a luthier if so desired. Beautifully arched back. This is a great looking. Very RARE, 1920's antique"Peter Pan Uke" soprano ukulele, made by PMI- Progressive Musical Instrument Corporation, New York. ca. 1920's. All the labels and decals are in excellent condition. It even has to original decal from the store that sold it. It says: ELECTRIC APPLIANCES J. W. STUMP FLEETWOOD. PA MUSIC STORE. The ukulele is in very nice condition. It looks like it was taken good care of. The entire ukulele is very solid and sounds great. There is only one tight split on the top of the sound hole. I do not know the date of manufacture, but it is most definitely old. Gorgeous color scheme with yellow over black with green scroll work and the super cool silver grey faux mother of pearl on the neck. The item is in very nice vintage condition and does not appear to have ever been abused. The only condition issues I noticed beside normal wear and tear from use is some lifting of the binding, which should be shown in pic 9, on the right side of the narrow part of the body. It may have had an old repair to a crack on the body near where the neck attaches, which is too slight to see in the pics. Vintage Ukulele, Ukelele 1930s Island style Antique
Very Vintage old uke. Looks to date from the 1930s. And may be a Supertone. These were a mainland Uke company, whose products were made out of Honduras mahogany, as were most of the mainland ukes. This little piece of history is solid mahogany, with ivoroid binding and tuners. It is without flaws such as chips, cracks, splits, impact damage, deep scratches and the like. It looks as if it had not been played very much at all, and has only some of the very lightest scuffs across the face, very minor. The neck is straight, and the action, while a bit high, is good. It is nicely finished, with a beautiful arched back and tapered heel, all from Mahogany. The bridge is solid and the uke is very playable. The two items: the lowermost fret is missing. I will find my spare frets and send one along. Or install it. Also the celluloid tuners have shrunk ... morea bit with age, and they all have a side split, though this is cosmetic and they are useable as is. I also noticed a line along the side of the neck, as could be made by a fingernail. This does not show much, but I want to be completely candid as to the condition. This fine old uke comes with a vintage case that is decent condition. But could be worked on a bit with a new handle and leather closing strap. It is restrung with nylon strings. This may have been purchased during the uke craze in the 20's or 30's and played just a few times. Then put away in a closet, since it is in very good vintage condition.

Wendell Hall Redhead Vintage Antique Ukulele, Ukelele
Here it is. The storied Wendell Hall Redhead uke. This one dates to the mid-to-late 1920, when Wendell was hot stuff. This Redhead is in the best condition of the few I've seen over the years. Though it does have some issues. Concerns: neck is loose and removeable. Bottom fret gone. Three tuning pegs are original. One is not, though a good match. The rosette seam at the top closest to the neck looks like a crack; it is not. It's the rosette seam. Minor scratches and a couple of dings on the back Happy stuff: Excellent vintage shape. Looks to never have been played-no strum wear. Fretboard scuffs Decal is very good condition. beautiful rosette and ribbon mahogany body Original& untouched Assessment: I've never played this or strung it due to the loose neck. It looks solid. This is a great looking piece of history for a uke almost 100 years old. I am selling it for decoration only due to the loose neck. Please do not buy it for a player unless you are skilled or know a luthier. The neck will need to be set correctly if you plan to play it& I am not selling it as a player. I do hope that's clear. This ukulele is part of a large collection of rare antique and vintage ukuleles that I'm listing for my grandmother. Her and my Grandfather owned a music store in Harrisburg PA. They closed it in the mid 1970's. They both played and collected ukuleles as well as other string instruments. These where all on display in there recreational room. She is going into a retirement home and her house is up for sale. All the instruments are in good working and playing condition. This is a John Grey& Sons LONDON ROY SMECK Junior Model Banjo Ukulele. The instrument is in it's original Green and Gold color. The neck looks great and 17 integral frets. The head is 5 1/2" There is 6 brackets. RARE ANTIQUE Hawaiian KOAWOOD Koa Round Banjo Body UKE Ukulele Concert Ukelele
This is a very beautiful and extremely rare antique ukulele. The ukulele comes from Hawaii. And appears to be made of solid Koa wood. It is very unique in design. The body is round, kind of like a banjo. The body measures 8" across, and 2 1/2" thick. The body is pinned together with all wood pins. Just about everything on this ukulele was at one time made of all wood. Even the frets are wood. The instrument has some cleats on the inside, on the side of the body. I can also feel a cleat underneath the area where the wood had split on the top. Everything on it is very stable, strong, and tight. I've had hundreds of ukuleles. T his is by far one of the most unique and nicest a ntique ukes I've ever had. There is no makers marks on it. It likely had a paper label that has long since dis appeared. The total length of the instrument ... moreis 22.5 inches. The nut to the bridge is 14" I'm not sure if it's a soprano or a concert. It has a nice bold Hawaiian sound. I'd add a piece of leather over the tailpiece. Just to keep the metal edge out of my wrist. I'd also either change the bridge or re-groove the existing one. When you play it hard the G and A tend to jump out. It would also need a fret job. I'd restore it back to original. It looks like ebony wood slices for frets. This amazing ukulele is likely from the early 1900's. And could eas il y be used to play or display. I t's v ery unusual to find a solid koa wood ukulele of this age not all cracked and damaged. 1920s Leonardo Nunes Soprano Ukulele, Flamed Koa Vintage Antique Rare
Aloha! Up for auction today is a piece of musical history. A Leonardo Nunes soprano ukulele from the 1920s. Made entirely of koa, decorated with abalone and wood inlay, it has a Hawaiian-style"stacked" heel, brass bar frets and patent tuners(Grovers? that may have replaced the wooden friction pegs one frequently sees on these instruments. The dimensions are: 20-5/8" overall length, 9-1/4" body length, 6" wide at the lower bout, 3-5/8" wide at the waist, and 4-7/8" at the upper bout. The scale length is 13-1/8" A note on the maker: In 1879 Manuel Nunes emigrated from Madeira to Hawaii. Where he established himself as one of the earliest ukulele manufacturers. In 1910 Manuel was joined in business by two sons, one of whom- Leonardo- later branched out on his own. Sometime before 1915 Leonardo moved from ... moreHawaii to Los Angeles, and began making his own instruments for West Coast music stores, labeled"Ukulele O Hawaii made by Leonardo Nunes" This is one of those instruments, made for Kohler and Chase of San Francisco probably sometime in the 1920s. As you'd expect from the wood. And the age of the instrument, the sound is warm and bright with a rich, sustained tone. The action is nice- 4/32" at the twelfth fret- and it's strung with Worth Browns. CONDITION: There is one repaired crack on the back that has been cleated and glued(see photo 4. Lower left) Another long one on treble side has been glued, cleated and reinforced with koa struts for stability(see photo 9) The finish seems to be original and is in fine shape, with a few dings as shown in the photos. Antique 1920s BANJO/UKULELE - Handmade Musical Instrument-UNIQUE as is
Found at a recent estate this is an unusual banjo/ukelele. I am not an expert on instuments so I am offering it as is. My friend who knows said its 1920s. Missing some strings and wooden harp has come loose to hold strings. The hide in the center has two tiny holes. It looks to be straight not warped still a nice instrument just needs some TLC. Measurements are 21 inches long x 7 inches across the middle x 2 1/4 deep. I am not sure of the wood but could be rosewood as it needs a cleaning.Condition is used with some scratches but a worthy antique item for the instrument collector.Thanks for looking!

This is a very interesting and unique folk style musical string instrument. I was told it was a 6 string ukulele. But it really is anybodies guess. The instrument measures 20 1/2" total length. nut to bridge is 17" It's possible it was built in Hawaii or Spain. It looks to be very old. The workmanship is very interesting. There was no nails or screws used in the creation of it. It is all wooden peg and animal glue construction. The instrument is completely built out of solid woods. No Veneer on this. Vintage Islander Ukulele Plays and sounds nice. Unfortunately a piece of the 2nd fret is broken off under the high string. Which is missing. Please see the pictures. The tuning pegs work fine. One them is stiff, but works. There are scuffs and scratches. There is a small melt mark on the side. That looks like a hot cigarette ash sat on it. Please see the pictures. Possibly the correct size piece of plastic could be carefully glued on to fix the fret. Or maybe tune to a lower key and try a capo above the broken fret to bring it up to the correct key. Aloha! For auction today is this classic soprano ukulele. A C.F. Martin& Co. Style 2 from the 1950s. The body is solid mahogany, the top triple-bound with a white ivorioid outer layer, and the back single-bound, also in white. There is a 5-ply circle of inlay around the sound hole, banded in black and white. The fingerboard is rosewood with small dot inlays and 12 nickel-silver T frets. Bridge and saddle are both ebony. The tuners seem to be original, and work well. The total length is 21" the body length 9-5/16" and the scale length 13-11/16" Included is a fleece-lined soft case in fair condition, that also looks like the original. Plays beautifully with low action- 3/32" at the 12th fret- and new Martin M600 Clear Fluorocarbon strings. Also sounds great- loud and clear. Neat Old Antique Hawaiian Ukulele Kaholas & Co
Neat old antique Uke for parts or restoration. Dates to the 1920’s I think. About 2o ½ inches long. Back is about 9 inches. Has the usual scuffs and scrapes, no open seams, missing pegs and strings. It looks like the neck was cracked and repaired at one time. I can see a crack that goes most of the war around. But it has no movement, very solid, I put lots of pressure on it and I think it is very solid, maybe re-glued at one point. Certainly it will not bend with string pressure. We have this old Banjo Ukulele to offer in good repairable as found condition. The uke is 21" in total length. The body diameter at the widest point is 7 3/4" the head diameter is 7 1/8" There is four strings but the condition of the strings is unknown. No bridge. 12 f hooks and all look original. The head looks good but has some light writing on it and is used. The neck is straight, frets look good and the neck wiggles slightly. The uke is sold for repair and set up. 1920s-30s Lyon & Healy Washburn Ukulele Model 5315 Mahogany Vintage Antique Rare
Aloha! Up for auction is this classic soprano ukulele. A Lyon& Healy"Washburn" Model 5315, from the late 1920s or'30s. Chicago-built, it has a mahogany body with three-ply laminated sides, mahogany neck, a 12-fret rosewood fingerboard and 12 nickel-silver frets. It features a mahogany"smile bridge" which first appeared on this model around 1928. Saddle and nut are both ebony, the fretboard dots appear to be celluloid and there's a double band of inlay around the sound hole. The wooden friction pegs are vintage and work well; they have an unusual scallop shape, so may not be original, but fit so cleanly that they could well be. The overall length is 21-3/16" scale length 13-5/8" body length 9-1/2" and the width at the widest point is 6-1/2" Included is a soft canvas case that looks original. ... moreLyon& Healy made high-quality instruments. And"Washburn" was their premium line. This one has big, room-filling sound, rich and focussed with lots of personality. The top had several cracks that were cleated and glued. And one at the lower right was filled with mahogany inlay(see photo 2) The center top brace, and the top and back seams were all reglued, the bridge was reset, and bridge and saddle were lowered slightly to improve the action. The original finish is checked, worn and chipped in spots, and seems to have been touched up with shellac in the past; however, it adheres well and seems stable. 1950s-60s Kamaka Soprano Ukulele Gold Label Koa Vintage Antique Rare
Aloha! For auction is this Kamaka ukulele. Soprano sized, with a Gold Label inside the sound hole indicating that it was made between 1954 and 1969. See the"Dating Your Uke" link on the Kamaka website, at http:www.kamakahawaii.com/ukedating.html) Made of solid Hawaiian Koa wood. It has the curved fingerboard extension that appeared in the late'50s or early'60s, and a tiny remnant of the double"K" decal that originally appeared on the peghead. You can make out a shred of the clear backing with a magnifier, though it doesn't show in the photos. The overall length is 20-3/8" The body length 9-1/4" scale length 13-9/16" and the width at the widest point of the lower bout is 6-3/4" The action is low(less than 3/32" at the twelfth fret) and the fingerboard nice and wide(1-7/16" at the ... morenut, 1-11/16" at the body) A sweet player, it has the sound you'd expect from a Kamaka of this vintage: big and warm with nice sustain. Strung with Aquila Nylguts. CONDITION: This is a repaired instrument. Several top cracks were glued and cleated: they're pretty close to invisible. Even in person. See photo 2. The center back brace, and the top and back seams were all reglued. The bridge is a replacement made of Koa with a Micarta saddle, that was copied closely from Kamaka bridges of the era. See photo 10. Three out of four tuners are original, and the fourth a replacement from an identical set: you can see a slight color difference, however. See photo 8. There's a dent on the face of the peghead(see photo 7) and various dings elsewhere on the instrument. The finish on the top, back, neck and peghead is original but shows checking and wear. The fingerboard is rosewood with small dot inlays and twelve nickel-silver bar frets. Nut and saddle are both ebony. The total length is 23-5/16" the body length 10-3/4" the scale length 14-13/16" The width at the lower bout is 7-11/16" The tuners are original and work fine; the strings are Aquila Nylguts with a wound low G. Included is a case in great condition for its age, as well as some odd strings, etc. from the era. The sound is typical of these Martin concert-sized ukes: big. Light and bright with ... moregreat projection, gorgeous highs and a rich midrange. The action is low(just over 3/32" at the twelfth fret) and it plays beautifully. A note on the date: the decal on the front of the peghead first appeared in 1932. And bar frets were replaced by T-frets in 1934, so this one was apparently made between those dates. CONDITION: Excellent. With no structural damage, cracks or repairs that I can find. A few minor scratches, dings and some finish cracking is all, as shown in the photos. The fingerboard is some lighter-colored hardwood(birch? with a fingerboard extension over the body, painted position markers and 12 brass"T" frets. The tuners are true to period and work fine; I'm guessing they're original. The overall length is 20-3/8" scale length 13-1/8" body length 9-5/16" and the width at the lower bout is 6-11/16" Strung with Martin M600 Clear Fluorocarbons. It has nice action(less than 4-32" at the 12th fret) and sounds great: bright and light with sweet highs, an excellent midrange and overall warm tone. A real player. Hello up for auction ia an Antique Vintage Ukulele made by Leonard Nunes. It is in very nice condition but does have a small spot where the glue let go from the back to the body about an inch or two long. An easy fix as the piece goes right down. It just needs a little glue. Not sure what kind to use so I'll let the new owner fix it. The rest of the uke is in excellent condition and is original. The piece is 21 inches long and is marked on the top and on the inside. The front sticker is Ukulele Hawaii. Leonard Nunes with some other Hawaiian Words. On the inside is marked the same but with Los Angeles,California. It is also marked Copyright 1916 by L.Nunes. This is one nice little instrument made by a real well known maker. This is a great old Ukulele. It looks to be made with all solid woods. I'd guess the age of it is around 70 years old. Based on the construction. I could not see any veneer or plywood on it. It must have been stored well, due to there is no cracks or separation on it. Very solid soprano uke. It shows some normal wear, but nothing major. There is no makers mark on it. The inside looks very clean. It was likely stored in a closet for the last 70 years. It looks to be all original, except for the tuners. I've taken lots of pictures to show condition. ANTIQUE WASHBURN MODEL 1915 UKULELE
Up for auction is an antique Washburn model 1915 ukulele in rou gh condition measuring a little under 21" long. I found this in the loft of a garage several years ago and bou ght it with the intentions on having it restored but I've got too many projects as it is so I've decided to let it go. It has a Washburn stamp(I wasn't able to get a photo of this) as well as a paper label indicating that it is a model 1915. The uke is mis sing it's bridge. It has a crack in the top(see 4th photo) Some separat ion of the top from the side to the left of the sound hole and ge neral overall wear as you can see in the photos. Up for auction A Very Rare. Antique, Bee-Jay Products, Trivolette, Banjo Ukelele, Clock, For Restoration. The label on the peghead reads TIVOLETTE TRADE MARK THE TRIPLE TONE INSTRUMENT. There is another label on the back of the body which tells us the instrument was MANUFACTURED BY BEE-JAY PRODUCTS CO. INC. LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. PATENTS PENDING MADE IN U.S.A. The neck and body are made of a single piece of wood. The fingerboard is metal(probably tin) and it overlaps the peghead. Where it is stamped MUSIC STEPS PAT. APP'D. FOR. Measuring 20 inches long, 8½ inches across, with a skin head, which is 5½ inches in diameter, the 7 inch metal back rests on a circle of metal pieces, and is held to the body with eight screws. Bee Jay" is a Buegeleisen and Jacobson brand, probably made by Oscar Schmidt, for them, since they were ... moredistributors, and wholesalers, rather than manufacturers.Someone turned this instrument into a clock, but it can be restored as a very nice old banjo uke. Lovely Antique Hand Made FOLK ART Wood UKULELE Instrument, 1908, Provenance
ANTIQUE UKULELE INSTRUMENT Wonderful antique hand made carved wood Ukulele instrument measuring 18" long. 1-1/4" deep and 5" at the widest point. Wood appears to be mahogany including the carved wood pins for tightening the strings- fret is inlaid with brass banding. Bearing the original paper hand written provenance stating"UKULELE MADE BY HAND FOR AUNT MELBA 1908( CHILDS SIZE) I was told by the 87 year old owner that the instrument was a gift for her aunt who had polio and was confined to a wheelchair- she received it when she was about 8 years old and it was made by a member of the family. Condition is very nice with light rubbing to the finish on the top edge of the body consistent with usage- one string is missing and there is a fine. Tight 2" long crack and line on the back bottom edge that stops at the seam- ... moreit is stable and does not impact sound or function- appears to have had a label taped to the back as I can see old residue- think this can be easily cleaned, but I will leave to the new owner so I do not damage the old original patina- there is a piece of dried clear yellowed tape still partially attached to the back and a fine piece of wire has been looped around the tuners so it can be hung for display. A charming old instrument in lovely condition with original patina- visually interesting with wonderful folk art appeal. Think it would be a nice addition to any collection- a nice. Usable Ukulele! 1930s Roy Smeck "Vita Uke" Ukulele Flame Mahogany Harmony Vintage Antique Rare
Aloha! Up for auction is this classic 1930s ukulele. A Roy Smeck"Vita Uke" by Harmony of Chicago. The body is flame mahogany, the top spruce with Art Deco"seal" cutouts, and three layers of inlaid top binding in black and white. The fingerboard is rosewood with dot inlays and twelve nickel-silver frets. The bridge is original, and nut and saddle are both the original bone. The total length is 21-1/2" the body length 9-1/2" the scale length 14" The width at the widest point is 7-7/8" The tuners are original and work well; the strings are New Nylguts from Aquila. Despite their relatively small size. These Vita Ukes have a long scale and sound like concert-sized instruments, big and warm and round- just lovely. The action is low(3/32" at the twelfth fret) the fingerboard nice and wide(1-7/16" ... moreat the nut, 1-13/16" at the body) It plays wonderfully. CONDITION: The top had several shrinkage cracks typical to these instruments. Extending downward from the seal cutouts; all have been glued, cleated and/or splinted with spruce(see photos 1, 2, 7, 8) The lower back brace was reglued, several chips out of the bridge were repaired with ebony and the bridge was reglued(see photo 9) The original finish on the back and sides is in generally good condition. Except for minor dings and scratches and an area of checking in center of the back(see photos 3, 10; light area) The top finish is also good, also with dings and scratches, play wear around the fingerboard extension, and a little finish loss adjacent to the bridge.
