This is a hand turned bowl and is not perfect in it's shape which is what makes this bowl so interesting. There are scratches and marks from use. They make nice grooved"balls" of butter. The opposite side is smooth and has a nice feel to the wood. Due to use. It has some tiny chips and scrapes of the edges of the wood. One side has a small piece that has broken off of the wood but it is smooth and not sharp. It has various other normal use marks. Very nice for your country kitchen. Oscar Schmidt Autoharp Antique Vintage Collectible Rare Unique Old Guitar
I have here from the research I have done a 1915 Oscar Shmidt Special Niagara Model zither. Lap guitar, auto harp in relatively good condition for its age. I have not attempted to clean this in any form as I do not wish to damage it and this is why you will find it is a little dusty and has metal flickers from the old string on the front. There is also a hairline crack in the backing of this with previous owner placing clear tape over it to stop it spreading further. There is only one original string missing far left. This would be a great piece for collectors as it is a very rare example of Oscar Shmidt's work. In the centre cut out you can still make out his original trade mark logo and details. From 1925 they were marked MADE IN GERMANY until they ceased making them in the 1940s. This one is marked MADE IN SAXONY- so it dates mid-1920's at the latest- but could be much earlier! These were manufactured for FRANK ALBERT of ALBERT'S MUSIC STORE CHAIN in Australia. Possibly they were tiny Salesman's Samples or Advertising Novelties or for Children. This is a genuine'tiny' version of a larger antique Boomerang Harmonica. It was made the same. Looks the ... moresame, works- just on a smaller scale. These tiny instruments are much harder to come by than the larger ones& are so sweet! Fabulous Condition! Early Example& Complete with Original Case! Great addition to any collection! ALMOST 100 YEARS OLD! In GREAT CONDITION. Well made. Lovely Silver-Chromed& Flared" Metal Covers applied to each side to loosely resemble the shape of an Australian Boomerang. The marks stamped into the metal. Original Hanging Ring is still present. Works Well! Good Tone in"C" It has some light signs of age with some dustiness in the crevices/nooks& a little light surface rust to a small area of the chrome on one side- which would easily clean up but I've left it as is. No Physical Damage. No Cracks. No Repairs. The Original Case has suffered a little wear& tear over the years but the writing on top of the case is still readable. NOTE: Some of the close-up photos& light have exaggerated small/faint marks which are not really obvious to the naked eye! Not 100% sure how old it is. Just relaying this information. Encyclopedie Brittanica definition: bombarde. English bombard, German Pumhart, or Pommer, double-reed wind instrument belonging to the oboe or shawm family. It has a wooden body ranging from 10 to 20 inches(25 to 50 cm) usually with six finger holes and one or two keyed holes along its front, a cane reed, and a wide, flaring metal bell. The instrument is held in a position nearly perpendicular to the body, positioning the first three fingers of the left hand over the top three finger holes and the first three fingers of the right hand over the bottom three holes. The little finger of the right hand ... moreplays the key at the bottom of the instrument, or, if no key is present, covers the seventh hole. The reed is placed between the lips and blown into to create the instrument’s characteristically loud and powerful sound. The bombarde possesses a range of two octaves, and the upper octave is produced by increasing the pressure of the air that is forced through the instrument. No makers marks. I'm 99% sure the wood is ebony. I had someone look at it, and they concurred with me it was, but I'm not promising it is as i'm not an expert. But ifs definitely wood. Brass mechanism. Varnish a warm orange brown, Bow with mother of pearl, Coffin case, 1 latch is missing the eye& small chip on violin please see photos. A Brief History of the Suzuki Masakichi Suzuki was born in 1859 in Nagoya. Japan. At age 14 he had worked in a lacquer-ware shop and later began his studies to become an elementary school music teacher. His future changed when a fellow classmate expressed his desire for a violin. Suzuki immediately put his skills to work and spent a week making his first instrument. A few months later he officially decided that violin making ... morewould be his vocation. By 1888 he had hired several assistants to help in making instruments. Soon orders for violins came in one right after the other.
