I am no expert on Silver or Silver Plate but this is one Beautiful Piece. This Vintage Victorian Ladle is a very large and a very Unusal piece. I dont know its purpose either. But it looks like it would be perfect for Berries, Soups, Punch etc. In my research. It also appears to be in the Fiddle Pattern family. The Bowl on this Vintage Victorian Ladle is huge and comes to a point at the tip of the bowl. The bowl also curves out as it gets closer to the handle. The handle is curved and also engraved with the name Birney. This Vintage Victorian Silver Plated Ladle is Marked on the back of the handle SHM& Co. Simpson. Hall, Miller Silver Co was in business in the late 19th Century and then became part of International Silver. This Silverplated Victorian Ladle is about 14 inches long. The bowl measures about 4 1/2 inches long and about 3 5/8 inches wide and is probably close to an inch and a half deep. There is some scratching from use and a small area on the back of the handle where possibly some sand or the like got under the silver with one or two tiny spots where the silver has worn off. I said c. 1835 because ... moreit seems obvious that the set was purchased over a period of time. A few teaspoons have the Baltimore marks for 1828. And all except the demitasse spoons would be before 1846. George Tiffany(1805-1886) married Isabella Bolton Perry in 1861. She was a daughter of Commodore Matthew Perry famous for his expedition opening trading ports of Japan to the West. And the sister of Mrs. August Belmont. One of his sons drowned as a child, another died after serving with Roosevelt’ s Rough Riders. They were evidently on very good terms with Belmont one of the richest bankers in America a representative of the Rothschilds in America. Unfortunately I can find out little else about George Tiffany except he evidently bought Commodore Oliver Perry Farm in 1865. The silver pieces are monogramed GT or have a dog head crest and a letter T on the other side. This is a rare set of Southern silver. Not just for the owner but for its relative completeness. Fiddle thread is often quite heavy, especially this set, and therefore more usable than the lighter more common fiddle pattern. We have three Dlarge serving pieces and a mustard ladle and salt spoons not included in this auction. But we will offer them to the purchaser on a buy it now basis. We also have pieces of very similar Northern coin silver which would round out the set, also available to the purchaser. You will notice that besides the normal pieces the set has dessert spoons, which are perhaps the most useable pieces and rarely included in American silver sets. This is the perfect set. If you are looking for useable silver, but would also work for an historic home setting. There are: 9 Dinner Forks mono’ d GT in old English. 8 ¼” 8 3/8” long. This auction is for an unrestored 4/4 size violin from the 1900s labelled" Nicolaus Amatus fecit in Cremona 1660" This one is a 4/4 size. Back measures 357mm. The back is a nicely flamed one piece with no soundpost cracks, there is one small crack pictured by the chinrest area. There are some top cracks, but none in the soundpost area. One picture shows an open crack under the chinrest. The bows are unmarked. It is playable but would benefit from some repairs and strings. Sold as is for parts or repair, no returns. The one-piece back is beautiful, narrow flamed maple. The varnish is medium brown. This is a quality instrument, fully lined and blocked. There are two well-repaired saddle cracks. From"The String Werks" a local Atlanta lutherie shop: Violin-4/4 size Very nice European made instrument from the 1870's. Two appraisers differ: one said it is German made; the other said it was French made-for that vintage it could be either as the standard"cottage industry" label does not help. It has been professionally restored with new fingerboard. New pegs, peg holes re-bushed, new bridge, new Thomastik Dominant strings and new tailpiece. The back is a beautiful one-piece maple. The instrument does have some finish wear which is normal for an instrument of this age. The top is spruce and has some finish wear as well and a crack repair that was done 40 or 50 years ago. The instrument has a history: it was played by the first chair violin for the Chicago Symphony from 1906 to 1917, so it has experienced some fantastic vibrations so far and is now ready for more. This would be a great instrument for an accomplished player or a progressing advanced student. Included is a case that is very nice with a hygrometer, storage for 4 bows(no bows included since that is a personal choice selection for the player) storage tube for strings, two inside storage compartments, outside pocket for music, and an easy-to-use cam and key lock. Old Violin NANDOR BRUCKNER 1910 : Neck Graft, Lovely 1-Piece Back, Salteri Label
This violin came to me from the personal collection of a well-respected Italian violinist and conductor. And was in his estate at the time of his death about ten years ago. His family has requested that I not use his name in this auction, but you can tell by my feedback that I am an honest seller. I am fighting a serious illness and will continue selling many instruments in the days and weeks to come in order to pay my medical bills. Therefore, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. OLD VINTAGE VIOLIN CEG STRADIVARIOUS ONE PIECE BACK FINE TIGER BACK 18TH 19TH C
Old stradivarious violin. It has a signed pencil(printed)signature inside right on the wood. CEG STRADIVARIOUS. Perhaps the label fell out or the maker just penciled it in. The violin has a small shim under the finger board. Similar to Guarnerious violins I have has in the past. I do not think the tuners are original, although they are similar and move and hold well. The right F-hole has cracks and is a bit higher then the other, including an old repair job with yhe crack that is loose, not tight. The lower body bout has a crack as shown, and the body has been glued at some point on the bottom back, and I am positive there are others if you look hard enough to find them. I see a hairline upper left bout. The back is a carved ONE PIECE tiger back, and is very FINE TIGER STRIPES, similar to very early ones I have had, little to no finish left ... moreon front or back. The sides neck and head are all fine tiger. The tail attachment is new, the old gut was dry and stiff. You will be hard pressed to find a better model to restore or play. The violin has had repair around the neck area as shown, two cracks both sides, although it seems stable. There is even a piece of the trim missing there and a poor to fair glue job, it is what it is! I have had this tuned quite a long time and it seems to hold a tune fine. It has been reglued and repaired alone its journey thru musical history. I can not guarantee the repairs or the quality of them as I did not do them, I am telling you what I have observed. I have had this violin for a long time, time to pass it on. If you are looking for a mint violin look elsewhere, and save us both time and trouble of returning it because I didnt call some faint crack you can barely see. BUYING AS IS! Play it as is or take it too a luthier and have it rebuilt or rehabed or do it yourself. Either way I will not pay for it. Its up to you. Old antique 7/8 size violin with beautiful one piece back. Appears to be a repaired crack 1/2" to left of tailpiece about 6" long& a repaired crack at top to the right of the fretboard. Scroll cracked at D-string tuner to top. This violin is very lightweight. Thin plates and has a loud beautiful tone when it was in playing condition. It is old. The inside even looks dark and old. No markings are labels whatsoever. Lots of varnish has flaked of the top and the violin has the usual scratches, wear and tear of an instrument of this age. Antique Replica Joseph Guarnerius Violin with Case ONE PIECE BACK
This listing is for a antique reproduction of a Joseph Guarnerius 4/4 violin with wooden case. I am not an expert on antique(or modern) instruments. But in my opinion this violin appears to be well-made and it has withstood pleanty of use quite nicely. Of note. The back of the violin is of one piece. Most violin backs are made of two pieces of wood. I believe the top is of tight-grained spruce. The back, sides and neck are probably flamed maple. Aside from normal wear. The only damage I could find was a small crack on the pegbox at the'A' peg. I have provided a closeup picture of this crack. I did not find any other notable cracks or holes in the body. There is no separation of the neck from the body. The pegs. Fingerboard and tailpiece appear to be of ebony and original to the violin. There is tight crazing of the varnish finish ... moreand it has darkened with age to a deep amber color. The paper label. Difficult to photograph, reads: Joseph Guarnerius fecit Cremonae anno 17 IHS I measured 23 3/16" from the tip of the scroll to the end of the body. The body measures 14 3/16" long. Beautiful Antique 19th century Violin-Gorgeous One-Piece Back-No reserve!
This beautiful antiq ue 19th century violin is offered to the highest bidder. The violin bears the following label from the shop of E.R Voigt of London. I think it is a dealer's lab el and I doubt this violin was made by E.R. Voigt. This violin is a bit of a mystery. I believe it was made in the first half of the 19th century maybe around 1830. It ha s a grafted and bu shed scroll attached to a modern. Highly flamed neck, which would be expected for a violin of this age. It could be Engl ish. Although I cannot be certain. I am quite convinced it is not German or French, and I have no reason to believe it is Italian. It shares some characteristics with London violins of this period. Including the scr oll. Wood and varnish. The back. In particular, is a stunning slab- cut single piece of fabulously figured mapl e. There are present some ... morestrikingly original and unique attributes which should aid in identification. Specifically. T here is some asymmetry in the placement of the ffs with the bass sound hole shifted slightly toward the middle of the instrument. The violin is in very good condition with only some repaired cracks to the pegbox. Some small repaired rib cracks near the endpin and a small repair to the back. The repairs all seem to be solid and stable. The pegs hold well. T he violin is set up to play. The tone is clean. Pure and bright. This violin has the brilliance and power to be heard and penetrate. The flamed back is one piece and measures 14 1/4 inches by 7 15/16. There are no cracks or splits and all parts appear tight with no obvious repairs. The only thing I can find wrong(my knowledge is limited) is that one of the tuning keys tightens to only a point and then'springs' causing the string to slacken. The only label on the inside is a small rectangular label that reads"Made In Germany" Included with the violin is a well worn case and a bow that will no doubt have to be restrung. Beautiful 2009 Generation 6 Simeon violin#179 for sale. Luthier setup with Aubert Luxe bridge and rosewood fittings(including chinrest not shown in photos) and Pirastro Tonica Strings. Two piece maple back and unusual one piece Colorado Engelmann spruce top. Varnish is transparent red-gold which really shows the beauty of the wood- photos do not do it justice. Workmanship of the violin is outstanding. Violin is very resonant and brilliant sounding. Even across the strings and with great volume. Excellent condition. Only flaw is a small scratch on the front on the upper left bout(see photo) and a tiny scratch from the e string fine tuner under the tailpiece. Both would be easy to touch up if desired. Letting this violin go because I'm playing my Simeon viola as my primary instrument and it gets too little use. It has a nice old surface and the lion head is very nicely carved. I'm fairly certain it dates to some time in the 19th century( 1800's) As you can see by the photos. It's in need of restoration. The neck is off and there's a repaired crack in the scroll, but not quite to the lion, but just beneath it. Beautiful Antique Guarnerius 4/4 Violin, One Piece Back, Loud, Sweet, Ready
For your consideration I offer the full size antique German Guarnerius violin. The curly maple one piece back measures 359 mm by 204 mm. It was made in the early 1900's. Very likely in the area of Mittenwald. The label reads: Copy of Josef Guarnerius made in Germany It is in excellent playing condition. With a new setup, ready for immediate play. The first thing you will notice when playing is the enormus amount of power the violin has. And the sweet, dark tone. Considering the high arching, the trebles are amazingly bright. The lower strings have a sweet and powerful voice. The balance is great in all registers, from string to string. I've very rarely played a violin with so much power to spare. This one would be perfect for the agressive player who likes to push to the limits, because this one doesn't seem to have any. The responce ... moreis instant with the slightest touch of the bow, no hesitation, no raspiness, not schrill or unpleasant in any way, just pure tonal power. For the solo player and those who like to stand out in a crowd, this is a great one. As you can see in the picture above. The fingerboard has a white streak in it. This was uncovered when it was dressed to a proper scoop. It is ebony, though. The violin has a great setup, including a newly fitted and tonally adjusted bridge, a new soundpost properly fitted and positioned for optimum tonal responce, the string height adjusted at the nut for ease of play, new ebony pegs fitted that work as they should, a new set of Pirastro Tonica perlon strings installed(with the exception of the A string, used but not old) and a new chinrest. The violin is very easy and fun to play. Please excuse the dust on the violin. It was a breezy day here. And I like to take picteres in natural indirect light to best capture the colors. There are 3 repairs to note. A crack from the bottom eye of the left f-hole to the bottom, and a repaired wing crack on each side. The repairs are solid and cleated on the inside. Offered is an antique 4/4 violin. Amati modeling. One piece back. Not labeled. There is penciled on the inside back'Repaired by A.W. Turner Birmingham. Ala. No date. I think it's English from the late 18th century based on the scroll, edge work, woods and painted'purfling' This conclusion is based on my research, and experience. i am offering this violin at a price considerably below market because i do not have a recognized expert certification. The violin is entirely hand carved. The scroll and neck are original. I.e. not grafted. Although it is not the finest of workmanship. The tone is exceptional in my opinion. Original finish. Nice patina. Typical wear for a 220 year old violin that adds a lot of character. There is one mid-matched peg. Antique. Used. Four well repaired top cracks. All repaired and stable. No back cracks. ... moreNo rib cracks. No peg box cracks. Never a bass bar or sound post crack. There is some separation of the rib seam at the end pin. It is closed. Stable and requires no attention at this time. The sound post is set. I think it could be played as is. I've drawn a bow over the strings. And played a few notes in 1st position successfully. Please note: I am not a trained violinist. Nevertheless, I know'tone' The sustain when open strings were plucked at pitch is as follows: G string decay in 6 seconds. D string decay in 5.5 seconds. A string decay in 4.5 seconds. E string decay in 4 seconds. In my opinion the open note plucked sustain is good. The resonance and tone are very good. Used strings are fitted. The new owner will probably want to install new strings. And/or make set up adjustments to suit personal preferences. An old case is included for shipping protection. No bow. Offered is an old 4/4 violin. Amati modeling. One piece back. Caspari pegs. There is a label: James Sholle 1950. It appears older than 1950. The violin is entirely hand carved. The scroll and neck are original. I.e. not grafted. Used. Several repaired top cracks. All repaired and stable. No back cracks. No rib cracks. No peg box cracks. Never a bass bar or sound post. There are a few repaired chips. And a few that are not. The neck heel was cracked and repaired with an ebony pin through the button. The fingerboard has been recessed into the neck, and there is a wedge under the fingerboard at the end of the neck. There is'Bd. of Ed. and a number scribed into the back under the button. Violin Full size Stainer Beautiful one piece back!
For auction is a full size Stainer copy. There is not a label in this violin but there is"Stainer" stamped on the back under the button. This is a nice solid body and has one of the prettiest one piece backs I have seen. The pictures don't do this violin justice. The body is solid with no cracks. There are of course small nicks here and there. This Stainer needs all the hardware. It does have the tuning pegs but that is about all. It will be shipped in and old case that is really just for protection and shipping purposes. It is not a very pretty case but will do the job for shipping. There is not a bow with this violin. This violin is being described as"for parts and/or repair" but as stated there are no cracks or damage and really just needs hardware to set up and get playing. Great project violin.
