I have not cleaned them as I won't risk damage to any of them. I will leave that task up to the buyer. This organ had a back and a front set of reeds. If I am not mistaken the rear set is graduated from top to bottom uniformly note by note. The front set is divided. In the base I think it is an octave above and the treble being standard pitch. It is about all that is left from the pump organ, except maybe the case, which ... morewas made almost entirely of Rosewood. This piece however consists of the solid brass reeds. Unlike an American set of reeds from an American made pump organ, these reeds are screwed in with tiny number 1 or 2 steel screws, at both ends. The screws show a bit of rusting, but will turn out or off quite easily to replace a reed if need be. There are approximately 275+ reeds included with this auction and they are still intact to a portion of the wood housing. Your bid buys what you see in the pictures(of the portion of pump organ only) and will not be further disassembled from it's existing size of 36" long x 17" wide x 4-5" high, for shipping purposes. It's weight is or will be somewhere around 30-35lbs after packing. If you are in need of a pump organ reed, perhaps a little different than what you are use to, here's your chance to own something a little different than usual. At least one reed, that I noticed is broken, as has been taped, I'm guessing so that it did not vibrate beyond control while the instrument was being played. Shipping and insurance. SALE! Just reduced to $999 from $1.300 Rare Antique Jewett& Goodman Reed Melodeon/Pump Organ- 1860s Made in Cleveland. Ohio Details about the Organ for sale: This organ was made by Jewett and Goodman. Based out of Cleveland, Ohio and was a model they carried in the 1860s. They were a well respected manufacture of an exquisite line of line of melodeon and reed organs and stopped production in the 1890s. This particular model is what is known as a walk-around model. A walk-around model had a fold-down top serving as a large console table when closed and the rear panel of the case is finished and designed to be seen as a finished piece of furniture. Almost all pump organs of the mid-to late- 19 th century were made from lesser grade wood on the back and were meant to be pushed up against a wall. This organ was built to be a centerpiece of ... morea formal music parlor or drawing room. This was a greatly prized showcase instrument as opposed to the more common manufactured by the likes of Estey. Morgan, Mason or Cornish. From the original manufacturer’s description the unusual case design was made of solid planks of rosewood(I had to verify that against some on line samples as more modern rosewood seems much darker with more black accents) The organ has four stop that add bass depth rank to the original register when all four stops are engaged. We performed a full restoration of the finish and repaired any dings you would expect a piece of furniture built in the 1860's to have run into over the years. The pumps and reeds have recently been restored by the previous owner and we performed a good deal of performance measures(fancy words for sitting down and playing) It is in tune and we only found that only one of the reeds in the upper register for the second stop does not resonate consistently. This organ has an interesting story that ties it way back to the time that my father who started the business of restoring antique reed organs in the 1960's and from whom I learned how to do this work. His son this seller took over the business and has worked on well over 100 organs since then in Morton, Illinois, Galesburg, Illinois and now located in Altona, Illinois. Tewksbury & Carpenter. Antique Reed/ PUMP Organ -Restored & Playing! Celestial!
Here we have a lovingly restored Tewksbury& Carpenter of Mendota Illinois. Reed or pump organ from the 1870's era made of black walnut probably from lumber cut in the area. The organ has been in seller's possession since 1969 when bought in Peoria. Illinois and is one of the first organ obtained what turned out to be a long organ collecting and repairing odyssey. Organique-Antiques started out around 1956 by the seller's father and seller at Ludington. Michigan. The business was known as The Organique until seller took over the business after 1971. This organ was restore by an expert co-worker from Metamora who did everything that needed to be done. The walnut was already refinished when seller bought the organ. Things redone include new bellows cloth on the reservoir and exhausters. Complete redoing of leather, felt and necessary ... morewood/medal pieces that had been moth/mouse eaten and wood pieces that had gotten lost or broken. Everything inside was taken apart and cleaned to perfection. Original ivories were retained to keep in character with the antiqueness of the organ New pedal rug material was put on as well as new straps connecting the pumpers to the foot treadles. All the brass medal reeds were removed and cleaned with reed organ solutions and the reed cells were all cleaned and checked as well. Nothing was omitted in repair by the master craftsman and since the man is retired. No more organs will ever be repaired. Antique reed organ restorers are a dying breed and there are so few people to take up the cause! Unfortunately that is the case. Hello, Up for auction is probably a civil war era melodeon reed organ. This doesn't work. the bellows are rotted and its missing its foot pedal assembly. The keys are also disheveled, and there are scratches, marks, nicks, damaged spots, the wood stain in the wood seems to maybe have had water on it, and the cross brace on the bottom has a broken spot, etc(besides other problems that I may not have mentioned) This is probably a portable model used by a Church or traveling Evangelist. Its small enough that I think I can probably ship it via UPS by disassembling the legs. If you're in Michigan it'll probably be easier to pick up. Buyer pays for all shipping. There are small holes in the end pieces at the top, maybe for an upper section? One of the register pulls is missing its name label. All the key tops and fronts are there. J Estey& Co Cottage Flattop Reed Organ. Serial# 88194. Let me start by stating I know nothing about organs. I believe all playing functions of the organ are functioning normally. A couple of the keys stick occasionally. Finish appears to be original and in good condition other than an area on the outside to the left of keys where it's worn through. Original painted stencil designs appear in two places on each end of the organ as well as on the three panels just above the foot pumps. J Estey& Co is also stenciled to the left above the keys. This auction is for an antique HINNERS PUMP organ made in Pekin Il. The action is style Gr. Coral number 6870. This is a reed type pipe organ usually called a parlor. Cabinet, pump or cottage organ. Many of this type organ were used by the military in WWII and in smaller churches. I took some photos in natural light to better see the solid tiger oak wood and finish as I moved it from storage. It has a very nice finish and may have been recently refinished. It is made all with beautiful carved ornate tiger oak in very good condition. This could be the nice antique piece to fit right into your family room. The organ is 60x30x 52" and weights about 250 lbs. It is on wheels so easy to move. Dec 28, 1846, is genuine rosewood, and still plays remarkably well. The old finish has shrinkage separations from age, mars and stains for antique character. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its patina. Keys are genuine ivory with some shrinkage cracks from age. A number do not play, probably from dust stuck in the brass reeds. We have done no restorations to this historic melodeon. This is a Packard parlor organ built in 1895 in Fort Wayne. Indiana, and it reflects much of what the industrial revolution had to offer in terms of wood working. Unlike earlier models, the cherry wood cabinetry features lathe turned knobs and spindles as well as machined and symmetrical art work throughout the upper superstructure. I rescued this instrument in 1976. And in 1982 I did a a full restoration inside and out. Other than the stained glass, this organ looks and plays almost as it did when it was new. The bellows are air tight, and the reeds speak freely and in tune. All stop knobs are all original and move freely, The Vox Humana is in excellent working condition as well. Several ivories were replaced because of severe staining, one reed was replaced, and a few of the dowels were replaced with original organ doweling. Organ dowel ... moreis not standard hardware store size. All of this is to say that I made every effort to remain as original as possible in my restoration. Around 1990 the Diapaison label fell off while the organ was being played, and it slipped between two keys into the cabinet. I've never disassembled the organ to find it. The organ comes with the original reed pulling tool(these are as rare as hens' teeth) as well as two keys to the lid lock. I'm also including a round piano/organ stool from roughly the same time period. Though it is not original to this organ. I'm also including a pair of antique wooden candle holders. I also have box of nearly a full set of reeds, some original organ keys, and other parts, all of which is included in this listing. I dearly hate to part with it. But we are moving to a much smaller house and don't have room for it. I have enjoyed it for the better part of 40 years, and it is time to share the joy. For your consideration is a 61 note keyboard from an Antique Taber Parlor reed organ made is Worcester. Massachusetts, circa 1880. The white key are covered with celluloid and the black keys are ebony. The keys are in"as found" used condition and could use a good cleaning. The keys are in very good structural condition(with the exception of one key which has two small chips on the front edge) Also included are 43 brass reeds from the organ. Etsey reed pump organ is in very fine original working order condition. Including bellows and foot pedals. It produces humanic vibrato sound without any known structual problems. with working pull stops. Note: one pull stop and one key sometimes does not effect a tone& appears inactive.
