Lantern Measures 13 inches tall by 7 inches wide(approx) I believe it is Brass but it has been painted with nautical paint. There are paint specs on the glass, but it may be possible to clean them off. Condition– Good Cosmetic Condition for a Vintage Used Lantern- Paint spots as referred to above. Vintage/Antique Ship's Brass Collectible Large Nautical working Lantern
Here is a Brass Boat Lantern Nautical. Vintage, Brass, Working, Large heavy duty. There is no name on it but the glass has VIM on it. The glass is special because it is thick glass and this is made so it is a much brighter light so you can much further away that regular glass. It weights approx. 6 3/4 lbs. by its self. Measures approx. 18" Tall( out handle it is about 14" tall) x 6 3/4" D. You unscrew the screw on top to open, lift the tank out by the lifter handles, unscrew wick, fill tank, screw wick back in place, put tanker back in place by the lifter handles and you are ready to go. Most of the time the lifter handles are missing. Only thing I see wrong not bad is a very small chip in glass(see last picture) Insurance will be required. Questions are welcomed. There is glass on all four sides behind the grates. One side is a door that opens via a little latch. This lantern measures about 15" tall by 6 3/4" by 6 3/4" with the handle up they measure 22 1/2" The brass has a beautiful, aged patina and the glass is free of any chips or cracks. It still displays very nicely. The center cap in the top flips up and it also opens at the base of the top as well. There is an oil lamp inside that does have the wick. In the center there is a very thick ribbed glass lens that has no cracks. There is a brass anchor hook on the top and the bottom. No dents, nice vintage condition. Here is a great nautical ship or railroad lantern for your buying consideration. Recently acquired them at an auction that a party's collection of marine/nautical items were being sold. Per the patent date of March 1 1864. The burner has the name"Convex on the other side of the brass wick guide. Struck out when attempted to find something online for that patent date. Ring for hanging it is still on the top of the lantern. The lantern also has a brass spring clip affixed to the back of ... morethe lamp. Someone put felt on it. So as to not scratch the surface the lantern is attached to. The lantern has a thick rounded glass on it. The glass is not cracked. There is a chip in the glass where the clear globe meets the metal body on the top left side. The burner appears intact and has a wick in it. A ding in the bottom of the burner. The case of the lantern is made of metal. Probably repainted with the black paint on it some time after it was new many moons ago. No major rust or corrosion to the lantern body. The lantern is 8.75" tall. By 3.75" across, by 5.25" wide. I do not see a maker's mark on the body of the lantern or lens, just the burner body. Rare NOAAS REASEARCHER R-103 Vessel Emergency Light Acquired and restored by an engineer that was on the ship The Researcher R-103 was built in 1968 and had this name from 1970-1987 then it was renamed. The vessel was decommisioned in 1996. Included is the complete detailed drawing of the lamp circuit. Holds the charge for use once the battery is taken out. Use a 6 volt battery to charge and remove for use of the light. I was told by the engineer that restored it that it works and the bulb appears to be intact. The lamp holding the bulb is brass. The red box is metal. Weighs 5 pounds 9oz. The total height is 11" x 9" wide& 4" deep. The red box measures 6.25" x 6.75" x 4" The letters of the name of the ship are cut out of the red paint. This 16 1/4" tall electric lantern with an all original patina and toggle switch is from the estate of Howard Craven. He was a ship captain for the Gulf Oil Company until he retired in the early 1950's. When he then took up painting ships with oil on canvas. His father was also a ship captain, so I'm not sure which one used this lantern. It is all copper than I can see. It would be beautiful polished up, but I chose to leave it as is for those of you that would prefer it in it's original condition. Vintage Marine Ship Navigation Light Nautical Maritime Lantern Clear Boat WW II
My husband is organizing his shop and parting with quite a few items. Here is one of those items and his description of it: Maybe a good Christmas gift for the nautical collector in your life? Vintage marine ship’s iron navigation light. 180 degree clear glass Fresnel lens Navy? WWII? I picked this up at an estate sale and planned to use it as yard lighting. Turned out it did not fit the landscape plan. This is a large ships navigation light. Either for the stern(showing white two points abaft of the beam, starboard and port) or masthead light(forward, showing two points abaft of beam, both starboard and port) This shows a bit of light surface rust in spots. The result of years at sea. There is no internal mounting or wiring for a bulb, but that could be easily designed and installed. The gasket around the hinged lid is missing, but could ... morebe replaced with some type of weather-stripping. There are two small chips in the Fresnel lens, as shown in the photo. These should not affect the durability of the lens. You can see the imperfections in the lens from the glass casting process, as sign of its age. This stands 11 ½ inches tall. 8 inches in diameter(across) 9 inches across the top latch and hinge. The Fresnel lens is full width and 7 inches high. The base is round with“bayonet” mounting slots and is 5 ¾ inches outside and 5 3/16 inch inside diameter. The lid is held closed by a hinge on one side and thumb bolt on the other. The lid swings open freely. This is how I found it, I only cleaned the lens to confirm no other damage. I put a light inside it to show what it looks like illuminated for the pictures. The light does not come with this piece of marine hardware. As many ships navigation lights are made of brass or bronze. I can’t help to wonder if this was from a WWII ship, a time when these metals were in short supply and needed for munitions manufacture for the war effort. Vintage Japanese Brass/Copper Ship Lantern 1949
This is a very large(22" high x 9" Diameter) what I believe is a Japanese Ship Lantern. It has a plate riveted to it that has the Japanese description on it. I can't understand any of it except the date 1949. It is made of copper& brass. The oil reservoir is connected by 2 hinged bolts and drops out the bottom for easy filling. Handles on the top& bottom can swing out as desired. With the bottom handle. It looks like these lanterns can be stacked. It does have a couple small dents(I think easily fixed) but it is a very solid unit. Would be very sweet lantern when restored. No glass. Large Antique Nautical Lantern Vintage 5-way Green Ship Lamp Port& Starboard Used- Antique Nautical Lantern This lantern has some discoloration around glass and on seams. Pictures reflect a bent spot along one of the upper seams. Approximate size is 14.5" tall including carry handle by 9" wide. This lantern has NOT been converted to an electrical light. I have included the lighted pictures so you can see the brilliance of the green glass. Glass does not have any cracks or major scratches in them. The glass does not have any marks in the glass, other than what appears to be consistent with how glass was made during that time. I do not know the exact age of this lantern. However it is the only one I have seen with 5 semi-globe sections. I was going to convert this Kerosene/oil lamp into a lighted lamp and clean it up for my nautical ... morethemed room, but never got around to it. I now am moving and liquidating some of my stuff. I did pay quit a bit for this lamp due to its unusualness and size, however I am willing to take any reasonable offers. This would be a great old kerosene o conversion lantern to put in a parlor, back porch, sitting room or make great lighting for movie night. I prefer the green over your normal red port lights because it is a little softer and not as aggressive in nature depending on your usage or if you decide to use it for a child's night lantern for sleeping.
