Description Here is a nice 18th century tin candle lantern in good original condition. The tin surface has a nice dark patina from age with punched patterns to the surface. The surface does show wear from age and use with a slight split to one of the corners below the catch area for the door. The door opens and closes nicely with a small catch with handle. On the top of the flared roof is a ring handle. In total measuring 10.6 inches high and 4.6 inches wide. Please care to look at my other items currently on Ebay. I COMBINE ITEMS FOR SHIPPING. Aged Brass and Etched Glass Nautical Lamp Lantern Candle Holder
This belonged to my Uncle and he had it for roughly 30-40 years. He lived on the lake in upper Michigan. So that’s why I think it’s a nautical lamp. But I’m not really sure. The top opens and shuts, and the base turns to unlock and open. The last thing my Uncle had in the base was a 2-1/4" citronella insect repellent oil candle(shown in photo as an example. But I'm not including that in auction because it's old and dried up) The brass is aged and there is quite a bit of oxidation as you can see in the photos. I haven't attempted to clean it with soaps and solvents because I don’t know what I’m doing and could ruin it. Plus I know some people like the natural patina look. The patina blues on the bottom are gorgeous. It measures 9 ½” high. The etched designs in the glass globe are 8-pointed stars making a beautiful starburst ... moredesign. Made in India.

This is a genuine old Ship's Nautical Lantern with five glass panels. It has not been cleaned and is in its original state. The patina is darker than shown in the pictures due to the camera's flash. It measures 17 1/2" to the top of the handle and is approximately 7 1/4" in diameter. It may have a ding here or there which only ads to its character, but it is in excellent condition for its age.

This is a ships candle lantern made by"Eli Griffiths& Son" of Birmingham England. When I bought it. I was told that this particular model was made between 1940 and 1949. I see 2 other lanterns by the same maker on ebay right now at $185. $322. Niether of them is at all the same style as this one, so it's not much of a comafrison. The top is hinged, and the hing works nicly. The latch also works well, and holds closed as it's suposed to when caried by the handle. The 5 glass pannels are all in good condition with no cracks. The floor inside is well coated with wax from use. There are vent holes in the bottom, and it is also vented at the top. There is a slit in the side of the cup that the candle sits in to allow the wax to run out. This makes so you can burn a candle all the way doen to nothing. I have made a small wooden ... morecollar so you can use a canxdle that is smaller in diamiter than what it was made for if you like. This is not a light weight lantern. It weighs just over 5 LBs. This large all-weather lantern was likely made for maritime use in the late 19th or early 20th century and held a single large candle protected behind five removable panes of glass that each measure 3 1/2" x 8" It is an unusually large and durable design that is typical of use in industry. I am not sure what the use of this lantern was. I am not 100% sure if this is brass or copper. it is light weight for its size(9 lbs) it measures just under 2 feet tall and about 9.5 inches across. There are NO makers marks that I can find on this piece. So what do we have? A square lantern with glass with glass doors and a cup with 2 lidded containers on top. So is this maybe a Primus Stove? I can see it being a Coal Miner or Maritime Soldiers lantern they could sit and relax for meal time and have a hot cup of coffee? Is this a Fall Out Shelter Emergency light and stove? Here is an absolutely stunning and very rare example of an early. Solid brass, candle powered ship's navigation lantern. Though one in this price range isn't for everyone, it is for the serious collector. Circa late 1800's to very early 1900's. This style of lantern was also often used as a Lighthouse Keepers Stairwell or Passageway Light. As it was made by the famous lighthouse Fresnel Makers- Barbier Benard& Turenne of Paris, it seems only fitting. The lantern has a plate on the front of it's lighthouse style body, that names this maker. It is made of highly polished solid brass. And is 7.5" wide, 16.5" w/o bales extended and 26" with bales extended. It is a fairly large lantern. It is fitted with the original lens, which in made of red glass shaped to look like a lighthouse and made of high quality ... moreglass. The globe is in excellent condition showing no chips or cracks. As for the inner workings of the lantern. As the candle burns a brass spring slowly pushes it up in order to keep the flame at a constant level. A candle is included. Antique Marine Navigators Lantern Brass Signal Lamp w original Candle Boat Light
Antique Maritime Boat Navigators Lantern! It is Marked Navigators Lantern but it is so covered in old paint you can only make out the L. See pics. Somewhat rare piece. Brass with Original glass and original candle, see pics. Stands about 8 1/2" tall not including handle/hanger. It's been painted black over what looks like it's original green. Most of these I've seen have a back piece with two metal"handles" So either this one came without them and with this hanger or the handles were removed and the hanger added later. However I don't see any removal holes anywhere on the back but I do see possible old weld marks covered up with old paint. There is a metal peg missing on the front that slides the inner door around to block the light. The door does slide. It has both the inner brass slide door and blackened metal ... moresheathe. Hard to show in pics. Paint is severely flaked. It is in it's original condition as is the candle see pics. Glass is not chipped nor cracked but dingy, needs cleaned and has a cool air bubble in it but you can only see it when it's opened and I didn't get a picture. Very solid hinges are tight and fine. One small dent near globe on it's right if facing it. Hard to see but I got the best pic I could of it. Clasp is strong and door shuts tightly. Nothing wiggles or moves around. You could actually use this right now. All in original condition. The only thing I'm not definite on is it's age. It could be back as far as the Civil War era or just late 1800's. It is believed to have been used as a Railroad signal lantern. conductor's lamp on a train here in the Southwest but I have no evidence to prove that. This is an old lantern. I do not know where it was used. It has old paint and surface rust. It is about 5“ wide and 6” deep. With the handle up it is about 14” The top cap is 3 ½” in diameter. The side has a slide plate for inside access. There is a small glass window on the back. The front flat glass is 5“ in diameter. It has some deposits on the inside. I do not know if it needs a kerosene holder or work with a candle. Neither are included. It is for display and non-operating. As always since 2001.
