Pair Vintage Copper Brass NEPTUNE NR Ship Lantern Lamp Nautical Maritime Cage NR
This auction is for a pair of vintage NEPTUNE NR copper and brass ship oil lamp lanterns. These lamps are in EXCELLENT estate found condition with a stunning and even patina. They are beautifully crafted from copper and brass and secured with a chain and hook in the front. These lanterns both have a badge at the top with the Neptune hallmark and NR. All of the glass is in beautiful condition(with the exception of some dust from being displayed) The globe inside is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The oil lamp inside is secured to a metal wire that stays in place by sliding down two opposing corners inside. And sits very securely inside with no wobble. I do not know the age of the lanterns, and have seen only a few similar, but most of then have all brass cages(die to the reddish tint I do believe this is mostly copper) ... moreor have been polished. None have been found also with this exact badge in the same place and this stunning copper patina with the reddish copper undertones that almost glow through. This has not been cleaned or polished, but I'm sure would polish up nicely if the buyer wishes to do so. Each lantern stands 15"high without handle, and 17 1/2" tall with handle, by approx 7"wide. Those would truly make an excellent display piece or addition to any collection. Please see pictures for more details and feel free to ask questions. Extremely Rare American Pat. dated March 13. 1860 Brass Ships Lantern! Same Patent date as Tufts Lanterns made in Boston and probably a Rare Tufts Lantern as shown. The date is on the bottom of the heavy glass Globe which is original to the Lamp. All Brass and in the early Bird Cage form. Complete with original Brass Whale Oil Burner, see photo#5. The Punched Tin Cone-top is fantastic, see photo#2. I see no damage or repairs and it measures 17 1/2" tall and 21" if you include the Ring Handle. 9" in diameter across the bottom. Quite heavy about 10 lbs. due mainly to the heavy glass Globe. A very rare piece of nautical History with 150 years of patina, never polished! VINTAGE BRASS CAGE for Caged Deck/Ships Light from retired Staten Island Ferry
For those with the nostalgia of the old days and New York City here is a piece of it- from one of the Staten Island Ferry boats that was dismantled for scrap near St. George. They were selling items before sending the rest to the smelter. I purchase one of the deck lights with the large metal enameled shades and the lamp inside a glass enclosure. To protect the glass there was a brass cage over the glass. This light hung in our Vermont driveway for over 20 years and worked just fine through storm and snow. Then one of the trees used to support the suspension cable came down in a storm. Bent e shade and broke th glass but the cage remained without an added scratch. That's all that's left of it now and it is time for someone else to have it fotw a show piece. It's brass and the mounting is threaded. This auction is for an R&S(Russell& Stoll N.Y. maritime light fixture with a brass cage and a Pyrex globe. R&S CO NY appears on the brass cage in the third picture. The light fixture stands 8 inches high and weighs more than 8 pounds. After cleaning some of the paint off the cage. We found what appears to be cast brass underneath. The cage metal is nonmagnetic and has a brass color. The base, on the other hand, may be cast iron. It is magnetic. The only information I can find on the metal is the R&S CO NY. However the information on the globe reads PYREX T.M. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN U.S.A. The glass appears to be in good condition. But is still connected to the base. I have up for auction a really nice pair of vintage/antique Russell& Stoll Co. New York wall sconces. This pair is in very good condition but as can be seen will need rewiring to be functional. The back of the sconces appear to be made from galvanized metal. The rest of the light and cage portion are I believe to be brass. Cages open and close with a spring latch. Up for sale is a vintage industrial nautical explosion-proof brass and glass cage lamp. The brass hardware has a golden bronze patina consists of two pieces. The base and the cage. Glass is clear with minor chips to the base, which are not visible when lamp is assembled. It measures approximately 8 1/2 inches tall with a base of 5 by 3 3/4 inches. It weighs under 5 lbs. U S Navy Nautical Light Lamp Industrial Explosion Proof Cage Brass Ship Boat
Us Navy Nautical Ship Light Heavy solid brass. No breaks, chips or repairs that I can see. The brass base is marked twice, once with a US and anchor Navy mark and the second being an overlapping USN and the number 129. The cage is marked 4594-L-7 with an R on the top of the cage. the glass is marked G. B. Inc Type H 2034- Inside there's no socket, but the holes to mount one are still in there in good shape, just need to drop one in there and go for it its about 10 1/2" from the bottom of the mounting bracket to the top of the cage. About 5 3/4" from edge to edge on the mounting bracket. The mounting holes are about 1/2" in diameter. I'm no lighting expert. So ask questions, if there's something I've missed that you'd like answered I'll do the best I can Prompt payment gets prompt shipping.
