Antique Brass Nautical Light Ship Lantern This is a heavy(7-1/2lb. antique brass ship lantern. It is in good condition with the exception of several dents and a bent section of the guard. Please see photos. The internal lamp part is missing but a big 22oz Yankee Candle fits inside perfectly! Candle not included. The fixture is ventilated on top and bottom. It was designed for a flame burning oil lamp originally. The patina is nice. The glass lens is in great shape. The silver colored reflector inside is also in excellent condition. This could have been a cargo lamp. Steaming l ight. Anchor light, or a stern light. Not really sure. Somewhere on it's journey it was electrified and has a bulb inside and the burner is not present. They are usually flat on the back. Ours is V shaped that fits in a corner with bracket pocket on the left. Its red fresnel glass lens was made by Perko with Mold No.35 on its side. Glass is in good condition with about 3 tiny. Tiny chips on the ribs of the glass that are hardly noticeable. Also has a few tiny paint specks, age& dirt. No cracks though. The lantern has been painted red sometime in its life that’s faded, chipping. It comes with a chain& Original brass Miller Co. burner& hurricane ... moreglass that’s attached to bottom cover. The hurricane is in good condition with some tiny chipping along the bottom rim that goes into the burner. Also is soiled. This type of lantern was used to warn other vessels that they were anchored(not underway) at night. Based on the design. Materials used, and quality it was likely built by the Perkins Marine Lamp& Hardware Co. but the"PERKO" tag is not attached. Overall, it measures 10½” tall x 4½” wide, weighs 2 lbs, and is equipped with six brass guards to protect the 3½" x 4” 360 º clear dioptric(ribbed) clear lens. The lantern originally had a oil burning font which has been replaced with 110 volt lighting. It doesn't appear to have had a lot of sea duty and is in exceptional condition.This nautical artifact is a nice example of U.S. Maritime history.
