Brass cargo lamp. Hurricane lamp. Never used. Consists of a small brass oil lamp enclosed in an armored brass housing. The top of the housing tips back, the lamp can be partially lifted and the chimney assembly tips back to light the wick. Or, the lamp can easily be completely lifted out of the assembly. Rivets hold brass rods that protect the glass windows. The assembly and hinge are riveted together. A brass chain holds the latch, and the window panes are original. The chimney of the oil lamp has small waves and bubbles in it, and the heavy brass castings for the rope tie-offs suggest it is old. It is all riveted together with brass rivets. There are no stamps or words that I could find anywhere on the lamp or housing beyond the heavy brass plaque riveted to the top, Cargo Light. Copper Based Nautical Oil Lamp Insert with Glass Hurricane For sale is a Copper Based Nautical Oil Lamp Insert with Glass Hurricane and Burner. This great find comes from those days of wooden ships and pirateers. Copper base lamp is 11" tall and 4.5 x 3.25 x 2.25" approximately and was used on ships becasue copper doesn't rust. This lamp probably had a holder of some sort on a wall or table that held it in place. Lamp has a small"D" ring holder for carrying. Lamps of this age most burned grease or inexpensive oils. The burner does have rust but can be cleaned. It does remove easily. Glass hurricane is in excellent condition. There is a little lime spot on the base but can be cleaned away. This is the original patina. I have not cleaned this except to remove a bit of dust. Please examine the photos carefully. Pair of DEN HAAN Nautical Brass Wall Hurricane Lamp Sconce HOLLAND- Lighthouse
Very nice pair of brass oil hurricane lamps from Den Haan. Made in Holland. In good condition with the glass shades intact, no cracks or chips. The glass is marked Crystal Prima. The lamps do show some age and wear as shown in pictures, but still very shiny and nice. I double box and use a lot of bubble wrap for safe shipping.
