Neither has the interior oil lamp and I have been told that just about any small metal wide bottom oil lamp can be used. Both lanterns have their original thick heavy clear lens and these are in excellent condition. They also retain their bottom lenses(shown in images) Both tops are hinged with their original thumb screw and have their original bail handle. The brass is in very good condition with no damage. U.S. Navy World War II Masthead Brass Nautical Ship Light Must See!!
U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. Just cleaned and Polished. Approximately 10 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches(the bottom measures up to 7 1/2 inches at the widest point) Weight 15 pounds. On May-05-13 at 14:28:17 PDT. For this reason I would say it is one of the earliest Models of the design. The glass is blue with no chips. The lantern itself has some very minor dings in one area and one minor dent. This lantern is all original and complete with a wick(cannot tell if original but is used) The frame is all brass with a very old fully used patina. It appears that an antique 5 pound Navy anchor has been transformed into a lamp by attaching a very well made brass adjustable hood shade embellished with an applied copper design of sailboats and then wired. The workmanship is of professional quality but certainly could have been“home made” The bottom of the anchor(base) is marked on the topside“5” and on the underside“WC& Co” and the word”NAVY” The lamp works; there is a functioning pull chain for on/off. A 9,676-ton(light displacement) Admiral W. S. Benson-class transport built by the Maritime Commission to its P2-SE2-R1 design. Was commissioned in January 1945 with a largely Coast Guard crew. She departed San Francisco in March with troops and supplies for the Southwest Pacific, then moved to the Philippines where she embarked over 2,000 formerly interned civilians for repatriation to the United States. After arriving at San Pedro, California, in early May Admiral E. W. Eberle ... morewent to the Atlantic. Where in June and early July she made a crossing carrying troops from Naples, Italy to Trinidad and another returning servicemen to the United States from Le Havre, France. The covers are solid brass and the lenses read"Corning Made in USA 3DX3 F.S.O. on the inside. They both have the wiring and the bulb socket although one of them is squashed a little bit. One is missing a brass holding screw for the cover and the remaining screw is stripped out. They have an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers sticker on the back but you can barely make them out. I am brokering a fairly large maritime collection which has a number of items from WW2 Naval ships so I believe these are probably from a US Navy ship of some kind but I have no proof of that as the collector has passed on and records are sketchy. Antique, heavy brass, Triple Frog-Footed, Navy style Candle Holders
According to my collector friend. These solid brass holders are probably from the Victorian era. This is based upon their construction(the brass pieces that make up the bases are attached with brass screws rather than some kind of modern adhesive) and by their irreverent designs. Each holder has an ornate, tripod base. There's a four toed, frog-like foot perched on top of each of the tripod's three feet. Three, muscular and straining bent legs come to points that hover just above the points of spear heads. The points extend just beyond the hems of what look to be tunics of ancient, Roman soldiers. The barrels of the candle holders are decorated with roped anchors, leaves, and vines. The holders seem quite heavy for their size(two pounds each holder) They are eight(8) inches high, three and a half(3 1/2) inches wide at the base, and ... moretwo and a half(2 1/2) inches across at the top. Bronze brass navy ship mast light works
Antique bronze and brass navy mast light. Made by L.L.R. CO. Not sure what it stands for. Not sure what ship this came from from I'd say it's from the 40's or 50's. It has been 100% restored. I pulled the old wires out and wired it for normal household use. The bronze was very dark when I got this item so it has been sandblasted and has 2 clear coats to retain color. The brass rods were cleaned. All the lights on the inside have been replaced. The glass was also cleaned. Amazing piece! Stands 15" tall. The brass base is marked twice, once with a US and anchor Navy mark and the second being an overlapping USN and the number 129. The cage is marked 4594-L-7 with an R on the top of the cage. the glass is marked G. B. Inc Type H 2034- Inside there's no socket, but the holes to mount one are still in there in good shape, just need to drop one in there and go for it its about 10 1/2" from the bottom of the mounting bracket to the top of the cage. About 5 3/4" from edge to edge on the mounting bracket. The mounting holes are about 1/2" in diameter. I'm no lighting expert.
