The lamp stays level at any angle. It also has wear to the finish with corrosion on several spots. So study the pictures carefully. Although most of the piece is made of brass I suspect the shade is a different metal, perhaps copper. I have not tried lighting the lamp(no oil) so I can't say how well it works. Both have brass peg legs with a square base that is made of iron. Around the glass of the lantern is a brass frame and the tops of the lanterns are also brass. Glass is on two sides of the lanterns while the other two sides are all iron. Each has a burner and reflector inside, which can be easily accessed through the back which opens on a hinge. Both lanterns have a non-adjustable wooden handle. There is the typical wear and patina from age and the back doors do not close all the way. There is also some oxidation on the burners of each. Solid Brass Neptune NR Oil Burning Ships Lantern
This Solid Brass Ships Lantern was purchased by us from LL Bean in the early 1980's and is of the highest quality construction. The solid brass has great weld joints and copper rivet construction. The entire inner glass chimney portion is easily removed by two brass handles for fueling and cleaning. The lantern has been used several times and has some black smoke on the glass chimney. Still has 6" to 7" of cotton wick left in fuel pot. Other wise it is in perfect condition and could be passed on for generations. This could be polished to a high shine but I have preferred the acquired patina. The lantern measures approx. 15" X 8" and weighs approx. 6 lbs. Antique Brass Nautical Light Ship Lantern This is a heavy(7-1/2lb. antique brass ship lantern. It is in good condition with the exception of several dents and a bent section of the guard. Please see photos. The internal lamp part is missing but a big 22oz Yankee Candle fits inside perfectly! Candle not included. The fixture is ventilated on top and bottom. Brass oil lantern manufactured in the early 1900's for use in finer staterooms. It is an absolutely beautiful antique in great condition. There are two small cracks(you can see them in the last two pictures) around the base of the lantern. Most likely caused by age. Also I had a hard time screwing together the lantern and the piece that connects to the wall. I think it could be easily replaced with another bolt. And it might even go together if it is forced. This is a really cool old Perko marine spotlight or searchlight. It is solid brass and I think the light holder is a cast red brass. I couldn't find anything on the light that a magnet would stick too. It seems to be structurally in good condition. The brass could use cleaning and polishing as there's a lot of patina to the brass. The thin strip around the top and bottom of the light have some small slits. Maybe for fitting the brass around the body of the light. The light is also adjustable to be able to aim the light. The half label on the back is a Perko label. Heavy and well made. It has a GE bulb and I was told it works. The wiring is frayed and you should definitely have it checked out or rewired if you're planning on using it as a light though. See the pictures for more detail. Antique Clear Pressed Glass/Brass Whale Oil Lamp Only With Snuffers and Wick
This is. I believe, a lamp intended to be used to burn whale oil. The wick is unburned, so I don't think it was ever put to use. The screw on cap, snuffers, and two wick holders are brass, with a knurled top edge on the cap to enhance one's grip when refilling the glass vessel. The cap and two wick holders are 2" high. The glass vessel is 3" high with a protruding 1" long ground glass stub. The device in is excellent condition with no chips or dings. There are some light scratches on the glass. There is an obvious lack of whaling here in Colorado. So where did this come from? Well, it's part of my parents estate. In the mid-1960's(as soon as I went off to college) they bought a very old, actually centuries old farm on Grove Street in Millville, Mass. The place was a fixer-upper that had been in the same family ... morefor at least a hundred years. Up for auction is a antique bow light. I am unsure what boat this was off of but it was definitely removed from a boat here on long island. It appears to have a brass body and blue/ red glass. It does come with a wooden mount. The only issue with this light is it is chipped in the blue portion of the glass. Other then that it appears to be in nice shape. Britian and the Orient. See our other sales for more finds. This vintage Brass Kerosene Lantern is u nused. Unassembled and still packed in its original Styrofoam. You won't find one of these in better condition. Note that the photos show the actual lanten behind plastic. Since I don't want to remove it from it's original plastic bag. The lantern's name plate says" CARGO LIGHT NO. 3954 GREAT BRITAIN 1939" A handle attached to the main body allows you to hang or carry the lantern and vertical grill work and a brass chain lock to open and secure the vented dome. There is a bottom handle to secure the lantern to compensate for the rolling ... moremotion of the ship. It measures almost 15" tall from bottom to top of chimney and 18 1/2" when handle is extended it is 9" wide. The lantern is constructed with copper rivets. Condition: REMARKABLE! Most lamps of this age show significant tarnishing and wear from smoke. Not this one. It has never been used and the latern remains protected in its original plastic and Styrofoam. You can see some beautiful patina from where this item has been exposed to air. The glass panels and dome are packed separately and have dirt/dust from storage.Though no cracks or chips. Vintage Antique Ship Lanterns 1900's Brass Ships Gimbaled Oil Lanterns Rare
You are bidding on a pair of very rare. Brass gimbaled oil lanterns which were manufactured in the early 1900's for use in finer staterooms. These are beautiful and hard to find in this condition. However, when I was taking pictures, I unfortunately broke one of the green glass shades. I have tried to find another shade, but have been unable to do so. I have been able to find many antique restoration companies, one of which I have spoken to in great detail about the broken shade. He assures me that he can restore the shade to its former glory with very faint visibility. If the break is turned to the back of the lantern, it will be invisible to the eye. I will be glad to send the shade myself, or if the winning bidder would like to find their own restoration specialist, I will provide the pieces carefully wrapped. There are only three ... morebroken pieces and they fit together perfectly. These lamps were manufactured by C. Gray Ship Chandlers Established 1882 Arbroyath. Scotland and the brass nameplate is attached to the front of each lantern with that information. The lamp bodies are very heavy brass and are fully gimbaled. These are self-leveling lamps for use on the high seas. The wall brackets have a fleur-di-lis type decorative look. The burners are original with a double wick. The knobs are stamped"John Scott Made In England" The last two pictures show small cracks at the top of each body. These appear to be caused by age. The lamps have not been polished because I personally find them more beautiful in their aged condition. The clear glass chimneys are both in perfect condition with no flaws of any kind. The one shade is also perfect with no flaws. The second shade was discussed above. The brass body measures approximately 17" from bottom to the top of the oil burner and is approximately 10" in width at its widest point. 200MM AGA BRASS/ BRONZE AND COPPER GAS BUOY LANTERN. Used by the Lighthouse Service from Ca 1915- 1935. This lantern is un restored and we power washed it to see how easily the paint would come off. It came off quite easily as can be seen in the pictures. Our Museum has a quantity of these. And we sell them fully restored as seen in the later pictures for $4995.00. This one has a very nice 200mm Fresnel Lens, with only one very minor blemish. The lantern is complete less the Acetylene burner, which is available if desired by calling our Museum. These lanterns are absolutely beautiful when restored, and this one will clean up and polish up quite nicely. It stands approximately 35" tall x 13" in diameter and weighs approx. 125 Lbs. The base has two mount holes that are about 5 inches on center of each other. The globe is glass and in good condition. The light weighs almost 6 pounds. You can access the bulb area by unscrewing the cage and then unscrewing the glass globe. The glass is undamaged. But could use some additional cleaning. The cage and the glass globe screw on and off with little effort. This light has been totally rewired ... morewith all new UL-Listed parts rated for any voltage of 250 volts or less. The new bulb holder takes a normal screw in house bulb of 100 watts or less. The new wires terminate inside the brass junction box on the bottom of the light. You can use one of the original conduit holes or drill a new hole to bring your power into the light. This light can be used inside or outside. It will never rust!
