Britian and the Orient. See our other sales for more finds. This vintage Brass Kerosene Lantern is u nused. Unassembled and still packed in its original Styrofoam. You won't find one of these in better condition. Note that the photos show the actual lanten behind plastic. Since I don't want to remove it from it's original plastic bag. The lantern's name plate says" CARGO LIGHT NO. 3954 GREAT BRITAIN 1939" A handle attached to the main body allows you to hang or carry the lantern and vertical grill work and a brass chain lock to open and secure the vented dome. There is a bottom handle to secure the lantern to compensate for the rolling ... moremotion of the ship. It measures almost 15" tall from bottom to top of chimney and 18 1/2" when handle is extended it is 9" wide. The lantern is constructed with copper rivets. Condition: REMARKABLE! Most lamps of this age show significant tarnishing and wear from smoke. Not this one. It has never been used and the latern remains protected in its original plastic and Styrofoam. You can see some beautiful patina from where this item has been exposed to air. The glass panels and dome are packed separately and have dirt/dust from storage.Though no cracks or chips. T he very top of the lantern has a dent in it and the handle has a light bend i n it. There are a few small dings on the out side. The glass in good condition no chips or cracks as far as can be seen. T he burner is in good condition as well. We aren't sure if this is the original burner. The burner comes out of the bottom of the lantern to refill it. T he burner is also missing 1 of the 3 clips that holds it in. W e are not experts on sailing lanterns but this is how it came to us. You simply mount the round brass circle to the wall and slip the oil lantern into it. This beautiful ships Lantern has a wonderful patina. The lamp is a kerosene lantern and does have wick and interior glass globe. All glass is intact and has a mirrored back. Vintage Starboard Ship Kerosene Lantern Light Lamp Port Blue Glass Brass 21" BIG
Vintage ship's starboard lantern in a unique tri-plex shape. One of the largest I've seen at 21" from base to finial. 11" x 11" square with the typical curved front. Thick blue glass(not an interchangeable light filter) with horizontal grooves. Brass trim and a brass finial with hanging ring. Great"keyhole" vent holes throughout. Suffers from an untidy paint job and is in need of some updating. Missing original kerosene lamp and has been converted with a light socket. Needs new electrical cord. Brass has a lovely patina and there is still some vintage kerosene soot on the inside of this lamp. There is a small spot on the bottom by a switch of some sort that corrosion has eaten through the metal. But it's repairable and not endemic to the rest of the lantern. Glass is free of cracks or chips.

Original interior flat-wick lantern mounted inside. rectangular lantern exterior has an affixed plaque reading"Chief Light/ No.3509/ Great Britain/ 1935" housing measures h. 15-1/2" w.7-1/4" d. 7-1/4" with handle raised 18” high. This is a vintage brass ships lantern. Most is brass with glass panels and a white ceramic piece on the burner. From looking on the net. This one appears to be a Viking but I cannot find any markings on this lantern or the lamp itself. It is complete. The wick is inside of the oil tank as shown. Has a black wooden handle on the top. We offer you this Nautical Gem, an Original Antique American 19th century to World War 1/ WWI US Naval Kerosene Search Light, in near mint condition(see condition description) As found condition, comming with other military lots we have listed up for Penny Auctions right now. This type of search light was used by all branches of Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Impressive specimen, this one guarantees it was made for a more important/ wealthy clientelle. Equiped with all original pieces, dissasembles as you can see in the last set of photos. Canister on bottom unscrews, so does the top, and the very top(reticulated mushroom ... morevent cap) The gmagnifying glass in the front is present, and nice, held in by the"scissor" mechanisam safety(round) wire, which comes out the side, end by squeezing them together, realeases the glass. On two sides of the glass are two magnificent large jewels, one Green and one Red, signifying the traditional"Starboard" and"Port" side. Below the head of the lamp is a lever which could go three ways, as the signes say to"off" to the left, water" in the middle and"on" to the right. Lever moves like a charm, and it has a saw bracket above, to hold it in place at desired strength. Below the lever is the Mounting Clamp going outward on a slight angle, which is made of different much stronger metal, and displays different aging(slight rust) Bottom canister is fine, unscrews like a charm. Size is large 7.75" tall, 5.5" deep with the clamp, 3" deep without and 3.5" wide. Glass rim is 3.5" and glass is 2.5" diameter. It is copper, and is 10" down each side, 11" across the back, and about 10" tall, not including carrying handle. Vintage Circa WW II Era Royal Navy Binnacle Oil or Kerosene Lamp Compass Light. The piece appears complete. It has wear, is dusty/dirty, lite rust a few tiny dings& some scratches. Overall it looks great for its age. Some burner parts look to be copper, brass arm that lifts,and I think reflector is zinc with the largest part being tin or steel. My best guess its tin. It measures about 6-1/4"s long about 5-1/2"s wide about 5-7/8th"s tall. This would be for sliding into a compass binnacle for lighting up the compass without illumintating the bridge. When we were researching this on the internet we found that the Royal Navy contracted to make these under a license with Alderson& Gyde, PLAYMIT and BEC.
